Auto Assault was a MMOg developed by NetDevil and published by NCsoft. It combined vehicular combat with role-playing elements, allowing the player to explore a post-apocalyptic future in customizable cars, motorcycles, semis, and tanks. The player could choose one of three factions — Humans, Mutants, and Biomeks — and a class to determine the type of character. The majority of the gameplay took place in the vehicle, but the player left the vehicle when entering towns.

Released April 11, 2006, Auto Assault was hit with hard, critical reviews of the gameplay and features inherent in the title. Reviews contended that the game was too hard to get into and players simply couldn't achieve their goals. Ten Ton Hammer, on the other hand, believed Auto Assault to be a fairly good game, albeit with some nagging issues that could be revised post release. While a core group of players remained on the servers and continued to rule the roadways, the game's popularity dwindled and the game's servers were finally shut down on August 31, 2007.

  • Hunting for a bounty of information?

In any MMORPG, the stealth type class usually requires the most skill at playing effectively. Sure, anyone can pick one up and have fun, but the more you know about them the better your skill at them increases! That's why we've revamped out Bounty Hunter class guide with a "bounty" of new information, reorganized skill listing, and updates all around!

Bounty Hunters trade defense, support, and utility for the ability to do lots of damage and stealth. Naturally, understanding this can lead to a lot less calls to INC. Like any stealth class, it’s naturally best to utilize your ability to stealth to take out the enemies as opposed to up close combat. Not that it isn’t an option, you can skew your attributes, but at the same time there are classes that can do that much better and more efficient.

  • There is hope for humanity after all...

Our most popular class guides for the human race - the Auto Assault Commando and Agent guides - got quite an update over the weekend. Check it out!

Commandos are a class of two things, tanks and explosions. We've gone to our class guide for these noble soldiers and revamped the entire guide. We've reorganized the skill list, included a guide on how to play the Commando, and added tons of Commando related information.

The Commando is a class designed for fighting in the front lines. Understanding this will go along way when adventuring out in the wastelands. For instance, where others may have to stand back and be careful, the Commando can bust in and stand toe to toe with the enemy. The playstyle of the Commando has a lot of room for error since they have a lot of HP and DPS (Damage Per Second).

Head on over to our Commando Class Guide at Auto Assault - Ten Ton Hammer!

Our Agent class guide has had a tune-up and an oil change. We've gone through and updated all of the information, reorganized the skill list, and added even more information to our already extensive class guide!

Being an Agent means you sacrifice utility, support, and tanking ability for damage and stealth. That does not mean you cannot fill any of those roles, but there are other classes that can do them better and much more efficient then the Agent. Understanding this is the first step to mastering the Agent class.

  • Go go gadget upgrades!

Gadgets provide a means of enhancing various items that have open gadget slots. They are an integral part of the Auto Assault item system. Anything that can provide an edge is combat is surely needed!

Gadgets are rather uncommon items that drop through the world that can be added to the various items that have open gadget slots. These slots could be locked, of course, which requires the Tinkering skill to unlock the slot. Once added to an item the gadget improves it by adding a special enhancement based on the type of gadget it is.

Take a look at our newest guide in the Auto Assault Mechanics series over at Auto Assault Mechanics: Gadgets at the Auto Assault - Ten Ton Hammer community site!

  • Auto Assault reviews abound... here comes the Sun.

The Vancouver Sun just reviewed Auto Assault, giving the game a 4 out of 5. Our own review shows that 4 out of 5 reviewers give Auto Assault a 4 out of 5.

t all adds up to fast and fun game play.

You hop out of your souped-up vehicle in town and move around with your character. But the town graphics and movement are jerky and a step down from cruising around the landscape terrain.

Finding missions is easy in Auto Assault - I mostly found myself having to smash apart villages searching for an item, delivering a parcel to another town or knocking off some mutant creatures or their boss.

Read up on the Vancouver Sun Auto Assault review, and if you're still in the review-reading mood, check out Ten Ton Hammer's Auto Assault "first glimpse" review (we bucked the trend and gave AA a 4.8 / 5 - we likes it).

Missions are the best way to level up in Auto Assault. They are plentiful, fun, and contain rewards beyond what anything else in the game offers (except crafting!). Missions can get a little complicated sometimes and knowing the basics can really help speed up your adventures!

What is the easiest way to gain levels in Auto Assault you ask? Well, there is one word that answers this question. That is word is “missions”. • You've got Auto Assault crafting questions? We've got answers!

Auto Assault's in-depth crafting system is vast and complex, while at the same time user-friendly. Though, there are certain questions that rise up quite often on some of the various crafting mechanics. That is where our new crafting FAQ comes in! Answering all of those common questions about crafting and the related research skills!

Reverse Engineering “breaks” an item so that it can be crafted. Useful on nice items found in the wild, since you can break then craft them in order to memorize them for future crafting. Reverse Engineering also has a chance of adding experimentation slots to an item.

  • Who said you can't role-play in the wastelands?

There exists a clan for everyone out there, no matter how you play there is always someone out there who shares your playstyle. For instance if you enjoy a mature RP enviroment then there would be a clan just for you. That clan would be BRONZE on the Wasteland (RP) server. BRONZE is a clan dedicated to providing a fulfilling softcore RP experience in a mature enviroment. They host various clan events which range from hunting down enemies to helping our newbies!

There are lots of different clans out there. Clans for casual gamers, hardcore gamers, clans for lowbies, clans for PvP, and well the list just goes on. However, on the Wastelands (RP) server there is a clan designed for mature players in a mature atmosphere. Don't mistake mature for serious though, these guys love to have fun! Just not in the "1337" way.

  • This ride of mine, it requires.... SOME BLOODY PIPES!!

Vehicle customization in Auto Assault gets pretty in-depth. There are lots of options for the various chassis in the game. The system in place to handle such customization is actually pretty simple, gather some materials and click a few options and voila! Customized rocket launcher on wheels.

One of the great features about Auto Assault is just how customizable your vehicle is! You may have noticed in character creation that your avatar has a ton of options while your vehicle has just a few. That’s because your vehicle’s looks grow with your adventures. The “Tricks and Trims” system allows you to customize your vehicle at any of the body shop terminals with common 'Trick' items found throughout the world.
