Tabula Rasa is gaming legend Richard Garriott’s newest title, which combines a vast, persistent game world and rich storyline with fast paced action. Set in a near-future science fiction storyline, players create characters that must fight to save humanity against hostile alien enemies while trying to gain control of the universe. The game introduces several innovative elements to massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, including a Character Cloning System™ that allows players to explore different character classes without having to create a new character, and dynamic battlefields where players experience the frenetic action of combat in an ongoing war.

Tabula Rasa has been described to play like a FPS, but it actually uses a third-person view. The game still allows you to level up and advance your character to become more powerful like the majority of RPGs.

Tabula Rasa is about humanity's last stand against a vile alien race called "The Bane." The story takes place far in the future and includes futuristic technology. The gameplay revolves around 2 planets (Areaki and Foreas), which will be in a state of constant conflict between the ASF (Allied Sentient Forces) and The Bane. The player's job is to fight The Bane (or any other hostile creatures) and once again bring peace to the galaxy.

On November, 21, 2008, NCSoft announced that Tabula Rasa would shut down at the end of February 2009 due to poor subscription numbers following a month and a half of subscription-service and live events to wrap up the game's storyline.
