  • It's a famous landmark and now you get to see it through the eyes of the Turbine crew. See the Brandywine Bridge here. and read the lore behind it.

The Bridge of Stonebows, as the Brandywine Bridge was once called, was built originally by the Men of Arnor as a causeway across the Barandúin River on the Great East Road. When the founders of the Shire were granted their land by the king of Arthedain, the price was simple: to maintain and care for the Bridge so that travel into the West would never be impeded. The Hobbits of the Shire performed their duty, even long after the North-kingdom failed, and maintained the great stone bridge, denying none passage, Man, Elf, or Dwarf. Though the river's name was changed to the Brandywine and the bridge itself became the Brandywine Bridge, the Hobbits of the Shire continue to care for and keep watch on the Bridge.

  • Every time I see a new piece of concept art from this game, it takes my breath away. I don't know how true it will be to the story or how far they can go with it.. but the visuals, they just leave me speechless.

With that said, there is new lore today from the Official Lord of the Rings Online site.

This watch-tower, its name long-forgotten, once overlooked the eastern reaches of Fornost of which little now remains. Though crumbling and decrepit, it still stands as a grand testament to the architects of Arnor, a monument both carved from the living stone upon which it rests and built from stone blocks and mortar. The ruined tower yet watches over the eastern gate of Fornost, which still stands amidst crumbling walls, bearing the charge of the Seven Stars, though the courtyard beyond has become home to cursed shades, tainted by failure and betrayal.

Go read the rest and see what I mean about the art.

  • There is a new piece in the Developer Corner on the official EverQuest 2 site.

    The Rise of the Orcs
Kerya stayed low and close to the trunk of the tree, ensuring she wasn't in the orcs' line of sight. It had taken considerable study of their crude language to be able to make sense of their guttural grunts and snorts.

"Stronger now!" the larger orc said to the smaller ones. "This new armor will strike fear into the Militia! They will fall before the might of the Bloodskull!"

"The treaty with our Rujarkian brothers was wise, General Vhar'Taug," one of the smaller orcs responded. "With this superior equipment, Freeport will soon be ours for the taking."

  • "FAE ARE COMING WINTER 2006"

This cryptic message, along with "The Future of EverQuest II" spelled out in the game's "woodelf" font, was hidden in a sticker handed out at last week's SOE FanFaire 2006. (If you want details on how to break the code, click here) We received the sticker image (right - click it!) in a press release from SOE tonight that hinted at the "double coded message". The sticker seems to hint that a new retail expansion for EverQuest 2 will hit stores this holiday season.

Beyond that, according to Wiki, "fae" is simply an abbreviation of "faerie" - and what SOE means by that is anyone's guess. Old timers like me might remember a certain zone whose name contained something like "fae" (and that might just tie into the sticker's use of the "woodelf" font). But we're just speculating.

  • Er, what I meant to say was the Watching Stone. It's a new bestiary update for you today.

Statues throughout Middle-earth are not always what they seem. The very stone of some statues hold the trapped spirit of malice within, crafted by the Dark Lord long ago with skilled workmanship and dark ritual. These ominous statues act as sentries and alarms within the realm of Angmar and throughout the lands corrupted by the shadow. Within many of the ruins throughout Eriador and Arnor, in lands once controlled by the darkness of Mordor's reach, these watchers remain, ever-vigilant even after centuries of abandonment.

  • We have lots of lovin for your eyes! If you love Warhammer you're going to love these shots.

    FAIRFAX, VA – April 6, 2006 - Mythic Entertainment(R), a developer and
    publisher of critically-acclaimed massively-multiplayer online role-playing
games (MMORPG’s), today released assets from their upcoming MMORPG
“Warhammer(R) Online: Age of Reckoning(TM)” (WAR), including screenshots,
concept art, character renders, maps and logos. Scheduled for release in
2007 on the PC, “WAR” is based on Games Workshop’s epic Warhammer fantasy
world, and features an innovative next-generation Realm vs. Realm(TM) (RvR)
    combat system.

The latest “Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning” assets offer a preview of
two of the MMORPG’s six playable races - the Dwarfs and the Greenskins (Orcs
and Goblins) - and their territories. Mortal enemies, the Dwarfs and
Greenskins are locked in perpetual conflict in a world where war is truly
    everywhere.

The screenshots show off “WAR’s” Dwarfs and Greenskins in various levels of
armor, playable zones including Ekrund, Bloodhorn and the Marshes of
Madness, plus a few monsters like the river troll. “WAR” character models,
zone maps, architecture and siege weapons are highlighted in the concept art
    and renders.

    See the shots here.
