  • New Preview Posted

The folks over at Tabula Rasa have posted a preview of the forthcoming game on their official site. The preview takes a look at the history of the game, back-story, key features and what we can expect in the near future.

Throughout my massive multiplayer online gaming some of the best moments I’ve experienced were feelings of being a part of a massive war in Sony’s MMOFPS – Planetside. After finishing with Planetside, I started playing World of Warcraft and invested some serious time (3 level 60’s later…). Because of the exposure to both games I couldn’t help feeling that there was room for a game that offered a true feeling of “massive conflict” and shooter style combat whilst having the character depth, questing and classes of a more traditional MMO. You can imagine then, when I found a link to the Tabula Rasa website I was quite excited by the prospect. A Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) which used First Person Shooter (FPS) style combat!

  • UGO Takes A Look At Tabula Rasa

    C. Radtke at UGO.com took some time to preview Tabula Rasa. Keep reading to see how it went...

It's the future. A race of nasty aliens known as The Bane have subjugated planet after planet in their quest for galactic domination. Recruits are desperately needed to combat this terror, and that's where you come in. You and thousands of other online gamers, to be exact. This is Tabula Rasa, the next big MMO from Lord British himself and the rest of the geniuses behind Ultima Online.

It's been a long road for these guys, after scrapping the original idea for the game and starting from scratch in 2005. Enough has been already said about that stuff, so we're going to look to the future here. From a recent demo of the game, it looks like superstar video game mastermind, Richard Garriot, has a winner on his hands.

  • Tabula Rasa impresses GamingExcellence

First NCSoft / Destination Studios's upcoming MMO masterpiece got some "ooos" and "ahhs" out of our merry band at E3 2006 (winning our "Player's Choice" award), now Gaming Excellence delivers a very favorable preview of the Sci-Fi FPS / MMO hybrid.

Tabula Rasa not only takes a unique approach to the presentation of the MMO genre by focusing on story and the mechanics of battle, it also strives to remove the frustrating aspects associated with the time spent playing these games altogether. Besides the amazing alien environments, players will also notice that the interface used in the game is extremely different from other popular titles. Of course this is not a negative aspect of the game, on the contrary it appears that NCsoft may have another hit online game when Tabula Rasa releases late this year.

  • Lord British takes the purse away from Tabula Rasa.
MMORPG.com has posted a Tabula Rasa preview featuring insight from Richard "Lord British" Garriott.

" Originally announced some time ago, the game underwent a marked shift just before E3 2005. Richard explained how it began with a rather trivial observation: everyone on the development team exclusively played female characters.
Why was this? Well, they discovered that as the game’s extremely far-fetched high fantasy style evolved, it became harder for male gamers to connect with their male avatars. Thus began a period where they tried to put a little more grit into the game; a process that would eventually completely redefine its setting."

  • EQ: DoD PV.
First out of the gate after release, IGN has posted a Preview of EverQuest: Depths of Darkhollow, the 10th expansion for the game. When asked about EverQuest, Vin Diesel reminisced about soloing Lord Nagafen two days after release and muttered the following:

" DoD has six new static zones -- Corathus Creep, The Undershore, Stoneroot Falls, The Ruins of Illsalin, Dreadspire Keep and The Hive - and 60 missions, similar to the mission system in the last expansion, Dragons of Norrath. Like the last three expansions, it's for player levels 45 and up and will include raids even harder than the ones currently in the game, some of which are undefeated. "

  • If the name means "blank slate," you know it has to have a good backstory!Actually, we know it has an immersive storyline because Richard "the father of MMOGs" Garriott is involved! Since TR is still a long ways out, this preview focuses on what Destination Games / NC Soft developers are concentrating on: namely a pure PvE, soloer-friendly, story-stuffed sci-fi high-octane MMOG with an accent on open-ended, class role-defying gameplay (whoa, there's a lot of adjectives there!).

"With Tabula Rasa, Destination Games is trying to do something a little bit different with the genre, taking certain elements from the first person shooter, and fusing them with role-playing. This isn’t to say that the game is going to be highly twitch-oriented, where dexterity rules the roost, as this simply isn’t the case. The game will still be focused on stats and character advancement like one would expect to find in an RPG, but the developers want to find a way to include some of the visceral, psychological elements of the FPS to include in the game. By doing this, they hope to provide a more intense, fast-paced experience for players."
