Tabula Rasa + EverQuest

  • Lord British Speaks! You Listen!
MMORPG.com has posted a Tabula Rasa Interview featuring Richard Garriott. Verily and forsooth, we say unto you that his holiness, Lord British, hath spoken and ye peasants hath listened:

"Many know the name Richard Garriott well. Now, deep into his second incarnation of Tabula Rasa, we try to get to know his game as well. Tabula Rasa mixes RPG growth with FPS action into a very unique setting. We came away from E3 with a lot of questions, and this interview answers them."

  • TVG talks to RG on the QT.
TVG has posted an interview with Starr Long, the producer of Tabula Rasa. All hailed Lord British and then wrote something almost like this:

"Richard Garriott and I (Starr Long) started this project together with other key team members so he has been involved since the beginning. For the first couple of years we took the project down a path that was more fantasy oriented, with a very unique combat system and focused entirely on instanced adventure spaces for small groups. After bringing it to E3 in 2004 we realised that the setting and visuals were getting in the way of the game we wanted to make so we decided to make some major changes. We moved the game towards a more science fiction direction for the visuals and setting. We also changed the design towards a focus on large persistent battlefields where player’s actions can impact the state of the battle. We also changed combat to feel much more like a shooter-style game while retaining RPG systems underneath everything. This means while you are shooting your weapon via a mouse click and cycling through weapons like a shooter, the outcome of each shot is being determined mainly by your character’s skills that you have built up over time."

  • Blizzard is your friend.
GamesIndustry.biz chatted with Richard Garriott about the success of World of Warcraft and how it affects the industry. We are unreliably informed that Tom Cruise pumped his fists in the air, and
declared his undying love for the following quote from the story:

"World of Warcraft has been very good for my business," Garriott told the ELSPA International Games Summit in London this morning. "It's brought in a whole new segment of people who played Blizzard games, but never played an MMOG before."
