Sony has had a rough month and things seem to be showing any signs of letting up any time soon. Following attacks on its Playstation Network and online PC gaming branch, Sony Online Entertainment, the personal details of now more than 100 million users could have been compromised. Sony is now facing two potential lawsuits and is being grilled by multiple government agencies and officials. A report from Gamasutra explains that state officials are also seeking answers. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has subpoenaed Sony as part of a consumer protection inquiry over the security breach and is seeking more details about the intrusion and Sony's "representations made to customers."

Sony has declined to testify before congress this week following an epic fail in the company's security that could have potentially compromised the personal details of what now totals more than 100 million accounts. The Congressional Subcommittee dispatched a letter to Sony Chairman Kazuo Hirai, which asked the company to answer several questions related to the Playstation Network hacking, a list that was dispatched before it was discovered and announced that Sony's online gaming branch, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE), had also been compromised this week, adding another 24 million plus to the list of over 77 million accounts possibly compromised.

Earlier today we reported that Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) had taken down its online gaming portals and game services following a discovery of another issue today relating to the intrusion that brought down SOE websites and Playstation Network about two weeks ago. Initially, SOE reported that they did not believe any customer information had been compromised since SOE's systems were separate from that of the Playstation Network. However, in SOE's latest update, it would appear that this is not the case and even more Sony customer’s personal details may now be at risk.

Layoffs are inevitable in the gaming industry and industry giant Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is not immune. The developer recently announced that it will be closing its Denver, Seattle and Tucson studios as part of a strategic decision to reduce costs and streamline its global workforce. Unfortunately, this comes at the cost of 205 jobs. Additionally, SOE will cease production on its spy-based MMOG The Agency to focus resources on the launch of two other MMOGs based on its Planetside and EverQuest IPs.

As always our best wishes go out to those affected by the layoffs. Check out SOE's official statement below.
