More on Ten Ton Hammer

In development starting in early 2005 (the official announcement was on March 9, 2005), Gods and Heroes is an MMORPG set in the world of ancient Rome where gods are as commonplace as monsters and other creatures of myth. In the game, you take the role of a demi-god, the son or daughter of one of the great gods. In playing you choose which god of the pantheon you will ally yourself with and gain the powers and abilities associated with that god.

Although the only race available at launch will be human, each character can pick from these six classes: Soldier, Gladiator, Mystic, Priest, Scout and Nomad. Players will also choose from two gods associated with each class: Soldiers can serve Minerva or Mars; Gladiators serve Fortuna or Jupiter; Scouts serve Diana or Apollo; Nomads serve Nemesis or Mercury; Priests serve Juno or Pluto; and Mystics serve Trevia or Bacchus.

Gods and Heroes was to be published by Sony Online Entertainment under their "Platform Publishing" deal. The game was cancelled in October 2007, and Perpetual Entertainment was dissolved shortly thereafter.

It's okay. Who cares that they're screwing consumers and generating ill will? No big deal, right?

The consumerist is reporting that as of October 16th, EBGames is still actively taking pre-orders for Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising despite the fact that the game has been officially canceled for over a week.

    Larvae in History
    By Charabis

Come join me as I take a look at the Larvae. See what these malevolent spirits were really like, and how people dealt with them in the old days :)

So fearsome were these spirits, that the feast of the Lemures, also known as the Lemuria, was held. On May 9, 11, and 13 in the Julian calendar, they would attempt to exorcise these malevolent spirits from their homes.

    Tough choices for Roman fans.

Coming up this next winter there are lot of new MMORPGs
bringing competition for Gods and Heroes. Darkgolem tells us his views
on the matter with this new editorial, Foes of Rome!

There are several new games, asides from Gods and Heroes, which
are going to be filling (or are filling now) the online role playing
game “niche” over the next year or so.

Sure, but what about their mother? They always forget their poor mother! No respect!

Mars was considered father of the Roman people, progenitor of Romulus.
Read all about this complex deity of the Roman people with Darkgolem's
    newest guide!

On Palatine Hill the temple of Mars stood, originally it was
the residence of the pre-republic kings of Rome. His tokens of the
shield and spear were kept here, and were considered sacred.

If you didn't ask for it, you can have it anyway. You're that lucky!

You asked for it, and here it is! The second part of our Gods and Heroes beta journal roundup, covering volume four through volume eight, the last one published.

Tip #1: PUGs are your last resort. Avoid them like the plague.

Here's the latest of Charabis's etiquette guides, covering that most-hated of all MMOG things, the Pick-Up Group! Join him as he takes a look at how not to become hated.

...It's all too common for someone to just grab everyone they
can get to fill out their group, without first figuring out how they
fit. This random assembly consistently leads to groups that will wind up
completely frustrated, and often bickering amongst themselves even while
the enemy pounds on their heads...

There she is, in her natural habitat! Shhh...

Charabis is taking a look at the possible future of the endangered roleplayer, and whether Gods and Heroes will be able to provide a safe haven for these rapidly disappearing creatures.

Some time ago, we tracked the elusive and endangered
Roleplayer. This creative creature was in danger of extinction, and
conservation efforts are ongoing. With this in mind, we began to examine
whether the world of Gods and Heroes could mean the salvation of this
    species.

The question: Is it a death knell or the game's saving grace?

WarCry has the breaking news that Perpetual's upcoming game Gods and Heroes has had it's launch date pushed back and part of its team downsized, citing lack of polish as one of the reasons.
