EverQuest II + Star Wars Galaxies Interviews

  • Vhalen talks about Kaladim!

the official site for EverQuest II has been updated with a Q & A with developer Tony "Vhalen" Garcia.

Can you talk about the geographical significance of Kaladim being situated north of Butcherblock?

Vhalen: What adventurers know of the Butcherblock Mountains is actually only the crag-cradled fields of that mountainous region. The region is dominated by the majestic peaks, insurmountable monuments of nature. Kaladim is located in the heart of that titanic mountain range. Such a location provides a temperate climate and natural defenses for the kingdom of the dwarves.

  • With the latest content update to the online world from Sony and LucasArts now live, RPG Vault checks into what it adds

RPGVault recently had a chance to sit down with LucasArts Producer Jake Neri. Keep reading to see what they were able to learn.

Jonric: What are the most significant elements in Star Wars Galaxies: Chapter 4, how did you select them and how do they fit the overall direction in which the game is evolving?

Jake Neri: The last few Chapters have been focused on implementing our new expertise system for each profession. Chapter 2 was Jedi and Bounty Hunter, Chapter 3 was Smuggler and Officer, and now we are at Chapter 4... Commando, Spy and Medic. We made the decision to release them in this order because it coincides with the popularity of the professions in the game. In addition, we wanted to implement the system for all the combat professions first, so that players would have a fair, balanced combat experience in the game.

  • EverQuest II's Senior Producer Scott Hartsman talks about Echoes of Faydwer

MMORPG.com posted this interview Friday with Scott Hartsman in their continuing series of interviews.

MMORPG.com: An aspect of the expansion that has players excited are the Deity granted spells and skills. Can you tell us more about them? Is this just a one time quest or more of a developing journey?

Scott Hartsman: Choosing a deity that matches your character's beliefs is a journey that you begin to embark upon through different series of quests for each deity.

Once you've chosen a deity to worship and earn their favor by taking on certain quests and making offerings you're able to tap into certain aspects of their power, their Blessings and Miracles. You can have one of each at any given time. You gain them by praying at your deity's altar and choosing to spend some of your earned Favor.

  • Ahoy Ye Matey! An Interview with Former Community Manager Blackguard

With one of our developers and our Community Relations Manager off grazing greener pastures, the EverQuest II community has felt the tug of loss over this last month. Ryan "Blackguard" Shwayder has left big shoes to fill for sure, but even as we say goodbye to our beloved CM as he heads back to Colorado to start on new, real-life adventures, we want to never forget that before Blackguard was the CM, he was a gamer. Please sit down and take a moment with Savanja and Blackguard as they chit chat about gaming, EQII, and blogging!

No single event really inspired me to get into gaming as a career that I can recall. I've really just loved playing video games for my entire life, and started reading various books on game design and development in high school. I made a bunch of mods for various games as a hobby and ran fansites, which got me close to several developers. They all seemed to enjoy their jobs and I liked pretty much all of the devs I met, and the opportunity to work on EQII was timed well for me (and it was the right game) so I went ahead and took it. I've pretty much wanted to make games for as long as I can remember.

Keep reading to find out more. Have you joined our EQ2 Ten Ton Hammer Community site? If not, head over and register, it just takes a moment. Don't forget to share your thoughts on this and all your favorite MMOs in our new Ten Ton Hammer Community site.

  • Stratics Talks Crafting and PvP With the Devs

Stratics recently had a chance to ask the Devs for EQ2 some questions. These questions focus on crafting and pvp...

Recently, we had an opportunity to ask some very specific questions of the Developers on things related to PvP and Crafting. We took this opportunity to get "down and dirty" on some topics that have been buzzed about in the community, and frankly, I'm rather pleased with the responses! There is more insight to some of the things we as players perceive as issues, while the Developers see them as game-play effects and logical conclusions to an action.

    On hand to provide responses:

    Ben "Beghn" Skelly, Tradeskills Designer
    Chris "Archonix" Junior, PvP Designer
    Chris "Aeralik" Kozak, Gameplay Programmer
    Jason "Dymus" Roberts, Lead Designer
    Ryan "Blackguard" Shwayder, Community Manager

The questions and responses regarding PvP and Crafting... interesting combination, I know.

  • Interview and a Screenshot!

MMORPG.comcontinues their series of Q&A's with the fine folks at EQ2. This time Akil Hooper, the Design Supervisor for EverQuest II: Echoes of Faydwer answers a couple questions...

MMORPG.com: What’s your favorite low level dungeon in the Echoes of Faydwer? What makes it special?

Akil Hooper: I’d have to say Crushbone Keep is personal favorite low level dungeon in Echoes of Faydwer. The zone has a great layout, and can support quite a few groups. The zone looks great and is well laid out, with obvious targets for your group, and lots of nice places to get good gear for a lower level player. Crushbone was also one of the zones I had the fondest memories of from my EQ 1 days, and its great to see the zone revitalized with EQ II’s flair.

  • Star Wars Galaxies: Three years and counting

Warcry writer Robert "Sabrehawk" Cox brings us an interview with Grant McDaniel. Sit back and continue the look at path this game has traveled over the last three years...

Three years is a long time in the online gaming world. For some, it's longer than others.

In the case of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, an argument can be made that the summer of 2003 was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

Since that initial launch, the game has seen over 30 updates, a major upgrade to the combat system and a complete overhaul that left many players wondering if the game's developers, Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts, had completely lost their collective mind.

Keep reading to see what Grant McDaniel has to say about Star Wars Galaxies. What do you think of this game? What have been your experiences with it over the last three years? Head to the forums here at Ten Ton Hammer and let us know!
