EverQuest II + Freaky Creatures

  • EQ2 opinions that count!

If you aren't aware of who Aggro Me is, you've missed out on an insightful, honest, straight foward, and sometimes humorous look at EverQuest 2 and the MMO market in general. Slide infiltrates the Aggro Me Elite Ninja Death Squad to unlock his secrets.

SLiDE: What was it that motivated you to start a MMO related blog spot?

Aggro Me: I’ll let you in on a secret I don’t think I’ve ever stated publicly. It wasn’t money (good thing because there isn’t any), fame (haha), or the desire to get a job at a game company that got me started with Aggro Me. I conceived the idea for a novel, entitled “Aggro Me” before I ever started the site. The blog was really a research tool to help me with that novel and maybe act as a launching pad if I ever finished it.

Of course, things change. That novel is still mired in the second chapter and the blog has several hundred lengthy posts. I started to really care about EQII and I wanted to change it for the better. That normally took the form of blasting perceived imperfections in the game, and believe me there were plenty in those days. Lately, I have taken on a more positive note not because I’ve changed, but because the game has. I’m as honest now as I was then and if I tried to be negative just for the sake of it, I would be doing myself and my readers a grave disservice.

  • Poking Around Solusek
Two evil masterminds collaborate to bring you the ultimate power in the universe! Well, actually, Slide and RadarX just bring you a great guide to Solusek's Eye, a popular high-level area in EverQuest 2, that hits all the high points.

Deep within the fiery mountains of Lavastorm, beyond numerous pools of liquid magma (use the Dr. Evil voice when you say that) lies a dungeon of epic proportion. Solusek's Eye is located in the farthest west corner of the Lavastorm zone which is quite a long and dangerous journey. Fortunately, there is a teleporter convieniently located right outside the dungeon which only requires a one time activation and will allow you to come straight from the docks.

  • I wouldn't normally post something like this as breaking news but I couldn't help myself after reading the first line - "If I punch him really hard in the beak, I bet he'll shut up."

That's my kind of story! Read the entire chapter here.

  • "Changes"... "Alterations"...

Can a class ever be the same after the dreaded "nerf"? Coyotee Sharptongue puts his journalistic ability to the test as he looks at both sides of the dreaded "Ranger Changes" implimented in EverQuest 2's live update 20. Fair? Unfair? You decide."

Change. Some fear it, some embrace it, but it happens to us all. But what if you were hit especially hard by a change that altered your occupation so drastically, that you could no longer find work, hunt with friends, or in some cases, even hunt at all?” A large Kerran holding a microphone looks intently into the camera as he shakes. “This is Coyotee Sharptongue for Ten Ton Hammer news, bringing you live coverage from the protests and public out cries brought on by the devastating changes to the Ranger class.” He shakes his head sadly as he turns towards a large man dressed in earthy clothing and holding a large bow.

  • Is it there yet? Is it there yet? *poke* *poke*

Quiet already! Last time I checked Kingdom of Sky was up and running without issue (and yes what I consider an issue may not be what you consider an issue). Slide, after about 3 cans of Amp, waited patiently to enter the game.

The impatience is staggering. I can understand wanting to play. I love new games, expansions and content and want to play. I WANT TO PLAY!!! But, I work 12+ hours per day and think how nice it would be to sit at my keyboard questing and beating up on mean, nasty mobs with my pals instead of taking insidious helpdesk calls of do0m.

See? The man is a saint of patience. You can read his entire article on expansion day at EQ2 - TenTonHammer.

  • Video games nurture talent...

We swear it's true! Read this incredible interview of Jethal who used EverQuest and now uses EverQuest 2 as inspiration for his art and hillarious musical parodies! Ok, maybe video games don't give you talent, and cause excessive blinking (which I'm waiting for them to prove), but Jethal is an example of a true artist at work.

RadarX: Tell me a little bit about the process you use to make videos. Is it FRAPS (for the uninitiated FRAPS is software that takes screenshots at a rapid rate making a "movie" of a game)or....
Jethal: I used FRAPS for a while, but I can't seem to get it to work with EQ2 very well. I'm currently using "GameCam" which works fantastic. I use Adobe Premiere to edit the video, then usually encode with the Microsoft Media Encoder just to make it a more managable size.

  • Examining the Extras in EverQuest II

We've all been in-game and have noticed or figured out something and thought we were the smartest people alive. We of course ignored the fact that 2,000 other people had figured it out before us. Throw us a fricking bone here! RadarX delves into what EverQuest 2 has in the way of "fluff" and explains why these little extras make the game better.

One of the best things EverQuest 2 does, in my mind, is provide story that brings the game alive. There is always someone willing to talk to you about what they are doing and why, or about another non-player character. These subtle little touches add an element of realism to the game that I can't find in other games. While it's proven to be impractical now, the voice overs they did with the original release game were absolutely amazing. There were a few that got annoying (if I hear "Gather round people!" one more time somebody is dying...) but overall it provided an immersion that I have yet to see in another MMO.

  • Expanding the Adventure!

Adventure packs, Expansion packs, Ice packs. What's the difference? Slide takes a look at the pros and cons of these two methods SOE uses for releasing EverQuest 2 content.

Over the past year and few months EQ2 subscribers have been exposed to a total of two adventure packs and one expansion pack with another on the way. At first this may seem confusing. Why not call them all adventure packs or expansion packs, what makes them different? Let me try and explain.
