  • The Blizzard that "snowed in" a genre.

Join Memnok as he reviews the 15-year history of Blizzard Entertainment, the key personages behind the World of Warcraft phenomenon, and even the game lore going all the way back to 1994's RTS hit Warcraft.

Jeff Kaplan, aka Tigole, is a lead designer in bringing the World of Warcraft to life, not only in its content, but making accessible to all the player fan bases… not an easy job by any means, one where you usually receive plenty of 1 thing, CRITICISM! Jeff is the stern and caring face to WOW, a poster on their forums, he tries to stay in touch with the gamers themselves, is the spokesman for Blizzard in newspapers, magazines and articles throughout the world.

Check out Who's Who in World of Warcraft at WoW - TenTonHammer to learn all you need to know about Blizzard, World of Warcraft, and WoW lore.

  • A visit to the Ruins will no longer end in ruin...

The Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj are an incredibly fun, fast small group raid instance. It is very easy to complete the entire instance (once you understand the strategies) in an evening. Many of the bosses introduce very interesting fight mechanics and are in general a lot of fun, while not being overly difficult. In addition there is some very nice loot drops. These combine to make what is one of the most fun instances in the game, in my opinion. This is definitely an instance that you want to spend some time in, Blizzard got this one just right.

In this initial release of the guide we have the following sections live:
    - Basic Information
    - Reputation Item ad Quest Information Reference Sheets
    - Boss 1 - Kurinnaxx
    - Gallery

There is MUCH more to come over the next few weeks so check back often. By the end of May we will have a complete guide to all the Bosses and trash mobs.

The guide can be found here: WoW - TenTonHammer's Guide to the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj

  • Journeys in Cantha, Parts 1 & 2

When the first official 24 hours of Factions were over, Samyel tore herself away from the game to give you her first reflections.

Alas, I miscalculated my time, and missed getting my prize for playing in the Day of the Tengu event. Yup, I too have a stack of Naga Fangs in my inventory and nothing to show for it. Oh well. Maybe next year. I still had a lot of fun exploring new areas and doing new quests. It's like getting a brand-new game—that you already know how to play.

Read Welcome to Cantha at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer to for first impressions of the new Guild Wars expansion.

Then continue on to Day Two of Journeys in Cantha!

Samyel talks more about the new-found joys of Factions, mini-pets, PAX, and chatting with Gaile Gray in Kaineng. I'm having a great time playing Factions, and I hope you are too!

With a little help from guild mates (okay, they pretty much carried me) I made it through the second mission, and arrived on the Cantha mainland. Level 13 and wearing the starting armor, I cowered behind my level 20 henchmen and made the short run to Kaineng Center.

  • We'll believe it when we see it...

Netcraft reports that Blizzard finally has an concrete solution planned in response to the game's intermittent authentication bottlenecks.

World of Warcraft says it is planning to upgrade its authentication servers to address performance problems that have plagued the popular online game in recent weeks. With more than 6 million subscribers, World of Warcraft has been struggling with login problems since the game's authentication system crashed on April 7.

Granted, Blizzard's scaling efforts are breaking new ground. But for nearly a year and a half now, we could wish in one hand and put Blizzard's promises in the other. We remain empty-handed, frequently frustrated with WoW's performance. Hopefully, Netcraft's report on planned performance upgrades in World of Warcraft rings true.

  • Guild Wars Gains a Tourist Destination

It's expansion day for Guild Wars! Want to take your Tyria-bred character over into the new, mysterious lands of Cantha? We've got you covered. In this short guide, we explain how to unlock the ship to Cantha for any of your Guild Wars Prophecies characters.

Although you'll have to do a quest, it's terribly easy to get to Cantha from Tyria, as long as you know where to look. As far as hoop-jumping goes, this is pretty minor, and gives play to an interesting bit of back-story for our friend Mhenlo, the handsome young monk.

Read the details in our guide, "Tyria to Cantha" at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer.

  • Shriners, minus the nifty little cars...

The new expansion for Guild Wars came out today! And one of the cool new features in Guild Wars: Factions is the resurrection shrines. Just like in Tyria, nearing a shrine sets it as the point you'll raise if you wipe out. Now they have an extra trick. We explain how to make offerings to the gods, and list the buffs you can buy.

The next time you find a glowing Resurrection Point, kneel (/kneel) before it. A spirit will rise and give you a chance to dedicate an offering to one of the aspects of the god.

Read more about shrines in our Offerings to the Gods guide at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer.

  • There is a new gameplay preview over at the official Age of Conan website.

The core of the question is: can we give any advantage to social gameplay without affecting negatively some peoples’ perception of solo gameplay? I guess that is impossible. The problem is, I want to reward people for being social, without alienating the true image of Conan as a truly solo friendly game. I have thus decided on making a compromise for the social classes, the Prestige Classes as we call them. The compromise is to let all abilities be available for your social class, but simply in a somewhat weaker form. You are barred from nothing, but you can not reach your full potential.

Be sure to read the rest.

  • There's an interivew to be had for Age of Conan. This time Gamespy interviews Gaute Godager.

According to Godager, the development team took a lot of lessons from Anarchy Online while they were developing Age of Conan. "Having a successful MMO as been an enormous advantage for us," Godager said. "It's a pretty eye-opening experience when what you think you know about how players play MMOs runs into actual data taken from a running game." In fact, one of the biggest lessons that the team learned is that what some players say they want, isn't always what everyone really needs.

  • Mawwiage. And wuv, true wuv.

Like baseball and Starbucks, marriage is an institution that is recognized throughout the world. What happens when art imitates life and people get married in game? Kiara dicusses why people tie the knot, and what impact is has.

Why am I thinking about marriage? Certainly not because I'm married or planning to get married anytime soon. Been there, done that, MADE the t-shirt. And yes, that is a slightly bitter aroma you're smelling right now. Don't get me wrong. Marriage can be a wonderful thing with the right person. There are a lot of ups and downs though. So, one has to ask, why on earth would you get married in a game? You get none of the benefits! Your virtual husband can't take out the trash, or cook outdoors, or kill the big, fist-sized, woman eating spider that just crawled across my wall. * shudders * Ugh. One moment while I find a shoe.

Read the rest of this insightful article at EQ2 - TenTonHammer. Next week, if it doesn't work out, the EQ2 staff has promised us a look at virtual restraining orders.
