  • A Novel About a Game About a Comic.
GameCloud chats with Robert Weinberg about his upcoming novel based on City of Heroes. Stewie Griffin would not comment on the story, but he did drop a load in his pants, smile diabolically and exclaim:

" Many video and PC games have gotten novelizations over the years and the newest one is Cryptic Studios' superhero MMORPG City of Heroes. The first novel, City of Heroes: Web of Arachnos, is due out later this year from publisher CDS Books and Gamecloud got a chance to chat with its veteran novelist and comic book scripter Robert Weinberg. • A Pox on World of Warcraft.
It is rumoured that a disease is sweeping through World of Warcraft. Whether it is intentional or not is still up in the air. Get your penicillin folks. Dustin Hoffman warned everyone that this could happen, but nobody listened. He's warning them again, in a very loud voice, that sounds something like this:

"Apparently there's a plague spreading in World of Warcraft. I can't verify this because I'm back at 30,000 feet"

  • Can you spare some change (descriptions)?

On EQ2's official site, the developers highlight some of the more blaring changes to characters' spells and combat abilities in the wake of the recent "Combat Changes." Now everyone can learn about the fun, new abilities no one really wanted!

In this article, we take a closer look at how some of the abilities have changed for each class and how to integrate them with your play style. Utilizing the tactics and knowledge within and combining that with in-game experimentation and ability analysis will lead to success with your character.

I guess the changes are good for us even if not particularly pleasant for some classes, like the Vegan junk our significant others might force upon our meat- and beer-craven mouths. See the Combat and Spell Changes at the Everquest 2 official site!

  • Wanted! A Winning Poster.
Blizzard is holding a World of Warcraft Wanted Poster Contest. Martha Stewart dismissed any claims that she may be on one of the posters stating:

" Greetings, fellow Azerothians. We here at the RPSA bring you news of the direst nature. Criminals, ninja-looters, and raid wipers have been showing up in increased numbers all over the world. It's time someone did something about it, and we charge you, the adventurers of Azeroth, with that task! What we need are talented artists to create Wanted posters depicting their arch nemeses, kodo thieves, two-headed ninja-looters, or any monster or character that has otherwise gotten on their last nerve. "

  • This game makes me sick.
Gamerifts is reporting that some changes to City of Heroes have left people feeling nauseaous. Watching Ellen Degenerate on the Emmy's last night made my stomach queasy, especially when she said:

" Players within City of Heroes from Cryptic Studios are reporting an alarming growth in photo-sensitve seizures after a recent patch into the game updated one of the "Sonic Powers Buff" to characters enhancing the visual effects associated with the power. "

  • More PvP, man on man, woman on woman review goodness.
The Junkyard has reviewed Guild Wars. Gary Coleman requested polited that we interview him. We politely refused, get it, refuse...Junkyard... bah..Here's what Coleman said:

" When someone says, "RPG", what do you think of? I would come back with either rocket propelled grenade or a story-driven game involving leveling and lots of monsters/bad guys. Add the prefix "online" and I get monthly fees and other people to romp around with. Guild Wars is something new. While it obeys some old RPG laws, it has also broken or bent others and introduced a few new ones. The end result is something unique and, if I may, something pretty frickin' awesome. "

  • EQ: DoD PV.
First out of the gate after release, IGN has posted a Preview of EverQuest: Depths of Darkhollow, the 10th expansion for the game. When asked about EverQuest, Vin Diesel reminisced about soloing Lord Nagafen two days after release and muttered the following:

" DoD has six new static zones -- Corathus Creep, The Undershore, Stoneroot Falls, The Ruins of Illsalin, Dreadspire Keep and The Hive - and 60 missions, similar to the mission system in the last expansion, Dragons of Norrath. Like the last three expansions, it's for player levels 45 and up and will include raids even harder than the ones currently in the game, some of which are undefeated. "

  • EVE defies the trends...

Eurogamer ponders why, in a crowded genre rife with games undergoing a full-fledged identity crisis, EVE seems to have just the right balance between giving players what they want while not cheapening the experience- it seems you have to have something to do and something to lose!

As if by way of illustrating what a cruel game Eve can be, I just lost a fight in my most expensive, well-to-do battleship only minutes before opening up this page to write these words. The ship is dust and I'm royally pissed off. Way more pissed off than I would be at dying in almost any other game. While other MMOs might have coddled me with just a bit of money lost, or a few XP as punishment for my pitiful death, Eve has created several hours of concerted work. It's a bitch.

This might not sound like a good start for an upbeat analysis of Elite's (remarkably pretty) online cousin, but it's losses like this one that give the game its raw edge. Like the thrill of gambling, player vs. player combat in Eve is exciting because you could lose something palpable: the time it took to make the game-money that paid for that ship, along with all the shiny gizmos I kitted it out with. You feel that loss in your guts. And there are few games that can boast that.

I don't think you'll be disappointed if you read the rest of this nifty Eurogamer review of EVE Online.
