EverQuest II + EverQuest + Lord of the Rings Online + Mines of Moria

  • Do0d! What R U talking about?!?!?

We've all seen the words. Some of us use them in game, but the cryptic language of PvP for the uninitiated is like calling Dell Technical support. You probably aren't going to understand a word they are saying. The Everquest 2 TenTonHammer staff put together a few of our favorite PvP terms you'll see and what they mean...to us.

Pwned: When one is pwned, they've been owned. When one is owned, they have just been beat down, ridiculed, or made to look plain silly in one form or another. One of the best forms of being pwned is the "bigger fish" instance.

Poor Shmitty is running around the outside of the Commonland gates trying to level his toon so he can kill bigger animals to feed his poor family. Harculeez the more experienced, egotistical, half-elf swashbuckler swoops in and impales Shmitty upon his rapier. Harculeez points and laughs at Shmitty's corpse then does a jig on his face. Kruunk, 8 levels higher than Harculeez, walks up behind the cocky half-elf and grinds him into the ground something fierce. Harculeez just got pwned. OH and feel free to add a 3 to pwn3d to look extra 1337.

  • It's shiny, shimmering, and full of stuff that wants to eat you.

In EverQuest 2, the Shimmering Citadel is a fabulous zone for higher end content. Don't know how to get up there or want to get your group killed repeatedly? Detailed maps and quest information await you! Take a glance as this guide to find out all you need to know.

The Shimmering Citadel is a magnificent island palace suspended high above Norrath, said to have been brought out by the Djinn and the Naga from the Plane of Sky. Wrought with many perils, the least of which is plummeting to your doom if you aren’t watching your step in the lower portion, this happens to be one of my favorite high end zones.

  • Middle Earth has so many fascinating places to visit. The world has a very rich environment. With that said, Turbine has released a new point of interest, Trestlebridge

Adventurers traveling north from the Bree-land along the mostly-abandoned Greenway will encounter a truly formidable barrier to further northerly travel: the dark cleft of Cirith Núr. Knifing between the North Downs and the southern regions of the shadowed and mysterious lands of Angmar, this dark cleft once held waters flowing out of Emyn Uial in the West. Over the ages, this mighty river has since receded, leaving only the sharp cliff edges and the uncertain depths below.

As a side note, the concept art that they have to go with the description is absolutely gorgeous!

  • Furies are unquestionably the most offensive and popular of all the priest classes in EverQuest 2. Keeping a handle on their abilities can be a little tricky though. Fortunately, EQ2 TenTonHammer has updated our Fury Spell list and Spell Progression table to include the Kingdom of Sky spells and the revamped LU#18 level 1-20 spells.

  • Mobs, Inc.

It slices, it dices, but most importantly, it puts your kids to sleep? Krunnk introduces to the newest technological advancement in parenting: The Krunnk in the Closet. This hot new product will be all over Norrath before you know it!

"You got kiddies who not listen? They stay up when they should be a’sleep? You just not know what to do?" A large Ogre stares into the camera as he reads slowly and mechanically from a cue-card.
"Then you need Krunnk in Closet." He affirms as he theatrically points to himself with a meaty thumb and smiles widely showing a mouth full of wicked teeth.

Courtesy of our very own EverQuest 2 funny man Coyote Sharptongue, you can read about this fascinating product at EverQuest 2 - TenTonHammer!

  • What's wrong with the Rangers?

A few weeks ago at EverQuest 2 - TenTonHammer, our humor writer Coyote had a little fun at the expense of the Rangers. While we don't apologize for it (mostly because it was freaking hillarious), it did occur to us that not everyone might understand what changed with the rangers and why they were so upset. So, after Coyote stirred up the hornet's nest, I threw Savanja in there like Sam Fisher to stealithily gather intelligence. She came back with a great interview.

Savanja: First, I'd like to know what made you decide to play a Ranger, and what your favorite aspects of the class were/are?

Kaeros: I could write whole pages on that question alone. :) I've played a lot of RPGs and similar fantasy games, and if there's an option to be a ranger, I'm a ranger. Always have been, since back when I first played D&D as a young kid. So creating a ranger as my first EQ2 character was a no-brainer, and I did so when I first tried the game out over a year ago. I didn't know how the ranger concept would manifest in this particular game, but I knew I had to start with my favorite class and see how SOE interpreted it. I've always liked the association with nature and the outdoors, the solitary nature of rangers, and the kind of mystique that surrounds those who prefer to live outside settlements and normal society.

  • There's a new community Dev Chest up. You can read it here.

    # Do you happen to have a problem with Orbs? Ilucide has some answers.
    # Timeline and event questions pop up all the time, but you can always count on Vhalen to shed some light on the subject!
    # In the thread titled "I thought that weapons were better than unarmed but..." Moorgard comments on a display bug and other tactics.
    # Lockeye comments on some Ranger Updates, that is incase you may have missed them.

Oooh.. Ranger Updates. That's a touchy subject that should be read indeed.

  • The Official site has this new explanation of changes for the new PVP rule-set servers.

PvP Range While Grouped: The valid range to determine both who you can attack and who can attack you is now determined by the highest level member of the group or raid. Grouping with lower level players will no longer allow you to attack anyone who is normally in their range. Be warned though; grouping with higher level players will allow anyone who can normally attack them attack you as well. As before, there are no limitations to who you can attack as long as they are higher level or grouped with someone higher of a level.

How do you all like the new PVP in EQ2? Tell me!

  • All your improvements are belong to us.

Everything changes, so if we are talking about change, why not make it positive? If there were an award for most improved MMO, EQ2 would likely win it. Nonetheless, Slide takes a classy look at Everquest 2 and what it can still do better.

The process of making something different for better or worse. They always seem to say that change is a good thing even though it's not something that is rarely looked forward to. People, in general, tend to dig themselves into a rut or routine. It's a comfortable place to be. This is the exact reason why players regularly get upset at the developers of their chosen MMOG. Massively multiplayer online games need to change to survive and need to change in order to keep their content fresh so that subscribers will stay with them. It all seems confusing. Why would a company make people upset in an attempt to get them to stay? Well, in the large scheme of things, the ratio of new subscribers to angry "I hate you SOE, I'm leaving you" subscribers are high enough. This holds true if changes are made in good form and fashion that I think Sony has gambled with a time or two.
