EverQuest II + EverQuest + Lord of the Rings Online + Mines of Moria

  • With gas prices as high as they are, who wouldn't want a flying carpet?

Stratics shows off some highlights of the new EverQuest 2 expansion area. They might have the fancypants screenshots, but TTH has the lowdown (check out the TTH Desert of Flames coverage while you're at it!). The scoop from Stratics:

On a recent tour of Desert of Flames, I was able to capture some pictures of various locations we visited. I have recently received these images back from the photography studio, and would like to share them with you.

  • Can you spare some change (descriptions)?

On EQ2's official site, the developers highlight some of the more blaring changes to characters' spells and combat abilities in the wake of the recent "Combat Changes." Now everyone can learn about the fun, new abilities no one really wanted!

In this article, we take a closer look at how some of the abilities have changed for each class and how to integrate them with your play style. Utilizing the tactics and knowledge within and combining that with in-game experimentation and ability analysis will lead to success with your character.

I guess the changes are good for us even if not particularly pleasant for some classes, like the Vegan junk our significant others might force upon our meat- and beer-craven mouths. See the Combat and Spell Changes at the Everquest 2 official site!

  • DoD, not Dud.
GameSpot has posted some screenshots of EverQuest: Depths of Darkhollow. Stephanie of Survivor Guatemala ate a bug and then told us this:

"This is a test of the emergency description system. In the case of a real description you would find it here."

  • EQ: DoD PV.
First out of the gate after release, IGN has posted a Preview of EverQuest: Depths of Darkhollow, the 10th expansion for the game. When asked about EverQuest, Vin Diesel reminisced about soloing Lord Nagafen two days after release and muttered the following:

" DoD has six new static zones -- Corathus Creep, The Undershore, Stoneroot Falls, The Ruins of Illsalin, Dreadspire Keep and The Hive - and 60 missions, similar to the mission system in the last expansion, Dragons of Norrath. Like the last three expansions, it's for player levels 45 and up and will include raids even harder than the ones currently in the game, some of which are undefeated. "

  • Crazy Overlord hijinx!

Apparently Everquest 2's nutty prince of evil is messing with the weather again. What are we gonna do with him? Coming on the eve of the Desert of Flames expansion, there seems to be a strong hint of something else going on here. Hmm...

He turned to the cloaked Teir'Dal standing behind him. "Now," he commanded.

The Foci raised her staff and pointed it at the sky. An arcane fire glowed within her eyes for a moment as she uttered a single word: "Rain."

The clouds began to slowly swirl and gather as a low thunder rolled in the distance. He turned back to the crowd below.

"Now, citizens of Freeport, watch as I cleanse our kingdom of the last remnant of a distant past. Today, as we stand on the threshold of a new frontier, know that it is my will, not the faded memory of long-dead gods, which sustains us. Give me your loyalty and I will give you... the world!"

  • Spirit shrouds and monster missions and evolving items, oh my!

Craig Knapp, Producer for Everquest Live (not to be confused with "Everquest 2 Not Live: Down for Expansion Update This Morning), offers his insight on the upcoming "Depths of Darkhollow" expansion.

MMORPG.com: For all the veteran EQ'ers, could you sum up what makes this expansion different from the others?

Craig Knapp: When we started working on Depths of Darkhollow we wanted to stay true to what made EverQuest so unique in the first place, innovation. We wanted to make sure that each feature was something that hadn’t been done in the MMO industry and I think we’ve done that exceptionally well. In addition, I’m particularly proud that each of these features appeals to players of all level ranges and players of any play-style. As anyone in the gaming industry will tell you, that’s not easy to do.

  • Desert of Flames and Changes.
Sony Online Entertainment has posted an EverQuest 2 Producer's Letter featuring Scott Hartsman. The letter focuses on the upcoming Desert of Flames Expansion and on the combat changes that are being introduced at the same time. It sounds like a while new game. Tom Cruise refuted claims that he was a Enchanted Lands Fairy and retorted:

" For those of you who keep up with the forums, some of this is going to be things that you've heard before.  For those who haven't, some of this may come as a surprise.
Many people will be relearning parts of their characters, getting used to new spell lines and working with altered buffs.  That's a lot for us to ask, and we realize that.  As a way of thanking you for sticking through the effect this will have on your first few sessions, we'll be running a week of Bonus Adventure Experience for characters under level 50 beginning the day that Desert of Flames launches.
I'd like to take a few minutes to talk about what it is exactly that's going on with the game, what you can expect to see on Tuesday 9/13, and our reasons for bringing you these combat changes. "

  • It takes a "guru" to get these screens.

I try not to wear my emotions on my sleeve too much, being the objective journalist that I am (/cough), but I'm a little bitter towards myself on this one. EQ2 Guru boasts a series of screenshots that your truly should have gotten- had I not patched the test server client instead of the beta client, thus missing the grand tour.

Check out these exclusive Desert of Flames screenshots exploring the different areas and zones from the upcoming EQ2 expansion.

/sigh, go to EQ2 Guru to see the damn screenshots based on the "Desert of Flames" expansion due out tomorrow (9.13.05). And I'll go check "Beta Testing On Live MMOs for Dummies" out of the library.
