  • Think all MMO gamers demographically exist somewhere between college and kids?
You might be surprised, especially since the word veteran in "veteran gamer" doesn't usually refer to the 50-plus set! TTH's own Patrick "Troon" Connoy puts hands to keyboard to describe his introduction to and enjoyment of EverQuest 2. That is, as a proud member of a little-known (but steadily growing) gaming demographic!

MMO games are lots of fun, they’re entertaining and addictive, no matter what your age level is! In fact, SOE and the other publishers are probably missing out on a very large hidden market opportunity by not directly targeting us senior, or, in my case, “almost” senior citizens. We are a “massively” large group, with improvements in healthcare, growing larger in size every day. The AARP boasts 35 million paying members, more than the population of Australia or Canada. After retirement, we have more time on our hands than we know what to do with. We are always looking for ways to keep our minds sharp and trying to figure out these new fangled computers. And, best of all, all of our friends are dying off, so we need the social interaction that MMOG’s provide!!

  • Time to start camping the emails again. SOE has announced that they've opened Beta Registration for their upcoming expansion Kingdom of Sky

We are pleased to announce that registration for the Kingdom of Sky and PvP beta tests is now open! This is your chance to help us test the second EverQuest II expansion pack, as well as the highly anticipated addition of Player-versus-Player combat in EQII.

High above the mightiest peaks of Norrath a secret world exists. This Overrealm, made up of enormous islands of land suspended in the air, is home to aviaks and creatures never-before seen, but it is the splintered and warring dragons who rule it.

This expansion is intended for characters level 55 and higher, although we will be accepting some lower-level characters into beta to help test our new player-versus-player ruleset. If you only wish to participate in the PvP beta, please use this registration system as well--Registering for the KoS beta will automatically enroll you in the PvP beta test.

You can register Here Make sure you're signed into your station account when you do it.

  • It looks like Sony is previewing EQ2 - Kingdom of Sky at CES this week. Gamespot has the scoop.

In story terms, Kingdom of Sky will focus on the warriors' of Norrath's battle against the residents of the Overrealm, a mystical and previously undiscovered territory consisting of islands floating high above the land. Players will begin to see in-game clues, such as NPC dialogue, indicating that those reaching a high enough level will be able to erect "teleportation spires" that they can then use to travel to the Overrealm and battle the creatures dwelling there, who intend to enslave and conquer Norrath.

Some of the new beings you'll find in the Overrealm include humanoid races resembling eagles and vultures, as well as a number of rather fearsome dragon bosses. We got to see one particularly fearsome bone dragon dungeon boss that ought to provide some nice loot for fearless adventurers. The islands and architecture of the Overrealm have a classical, Middle Eastern-influenced look to them, as well.

Good to see the Warriors getting some lovin.

  • Sony has put up four new Screenshots of it's upcoming expansion Kingdom of Sky. They've also given us a release date. February 21, 2006 is the big day!

Now like most of you old EQ players out there, I'm sure that this new expansion reminds you greately of the Plane of Sky. And if you were in Ellar Dobluth on The Rathe server with me in the early days, this also reminds you of Eero getting his butt kicked by the short kid after mouthing off to him. Good times... good times..

  • After multiple shortie packs (what I call adventure packs) Sony is releasing it's new Expansion pack Kindom of Sky. No release date was announced.

"Kingdom of Sky offers something for all of our EverQuest II players," said Laura Naviaux, senior brand marketing manager, Sony Online Entertainment. "For the seasoned EQII player, Kingdom of Sky increases the amount of high level content in a world filled with intrigue and the potential destruction of Norrath by the evil dragon lords. The second expansion pack brings the excitement of dragon battles and is timed to coincide with the newly-added Player vs. Player (PvP) action."

  • GamerGod wraps up it's three part interview with Everquest 2 Community Manager BlackGuard.

Nine: Being part of the creative team involved with EQ2, would you say you have more of an advantage than the average player has in terms of knowing plot details for storylines, NPC’s for quest turn ins, and general information that the average consumer has to find out on their own?

I have the ability to take advantage of the information available to me, but that usually ruins the fun. To be honest, if I get stuck on a quest, I do the same thing that everyone else does (ask in guild chat, bug people in the "LFG" channel on our server that nobody looks for a group in, or hit up a website with spoilers).

In terms of lore and plotlines, I probably do know a little more than the average player. That may change in the future as we start releasing more and more lore as weekly features. EverQuest II has a heck of a lot of lore to it, and we want people to know more about it because the stories are part of the heart of the game.

  • Part two of their three part series is up with EverQuest 2 Community Manager Blackguard.

Four: Having worked your way around the different positions within SOE, what would you say was your most favorite, and why?

I've been in QA, Community Relations, and was even an Apprentice Designer for a while. My favorite so far is Community Relations Manager, because I get to do a little bit of everything. I love working with communities, and I love influencing the direction of the game (read: ranting and raving to people in person or via really really long emails). This position is a perfect fit, because, obviously, I work a lot with the community, and I'm in a Lead position on the game team.

Uh.. yeah! Good times.. good times!

  • According to IGN, Star Wars
Galaxies may not be a complete dissapointment.
has a link to IGN's "Best
    of 2005"
and it shows that the Star Wars Galaxy Starter Kit was the biggest
    surprise. Why? Well,

Why It Rocked: One of the most controversial games over the last few years
has undoubtedly been Star Wars Galaxies. It was a bit of an experiment gone
awry as it took one of the most lucrative franchises around and stuffed a
traditional MMO core into it. While it was set in a galaxy far, far away,
it certainly didn't seem like it. So in a surprise move this year, after tons
of complaints, balancing, and rethinking, Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts
turned the game on its head, ripping out the core MMO system and implementing
a more action oriented gameplay style suited more to Star Wars. While we knew
they were trying to fix what was there, the complete change of direction was
a shocker, especially considering it was announced a day after people had
received their copies of the new expansion. Whether it turns out to be for
the better or not, it was a huge surprise to a community already in turmoil.
It certainly makes you wonder what else they have up their sleeves for the
