  • Every time I see a new piece of concept art from this game, it takes my breath away. I don't know how true it will be to the story or how far they can go with it.. but the visuals, they just leave me speechless.

With that said, there is new lore today from the Official Lord of the Rings Online site.

This watch-tower, its name long-forgotten, once overlooked the eastern reaches of Fornost of which little now remains. Though crumbling and decrepit, it still stands as a grand testament to the architects of Arnor, a monument both carved from the living stone upon which it rests and built from stone blocks and mortar. The ruined tower yet watches over the eastern gate of Fornost, which still stands amidst crumbling walls, bearing the charge of the Seven Stars, though the courtyard beyond has become home to cursed shades, tainted by failure and betrayal.

Go read the rest and see what I mean about the art.

Did you know that we have a really great Lord of the Rings Online Community?

  • WooOOOOooo! For all of us schleps that were too lazy to pre-order Auto Assault here is some good news!

AUSTIN, Texas, April 13, 2006—NCsoft® North America announced today that Auto Assault® launched commercial service in North America, Europe and other select markets worldwide. Developed by Colorado-based developer, NetDevil®, LTD, Auto Assault is the first massively multiplayer online (MMO) game set in a post-apocalyptic world featuring vehicle combat on an epic scale and fully destructible environments.

Auto Assault is available at retailers in North America at an expected price of US$49.99. The Limited Edition, which includes a headset to utilize the game’s voice chat system and a game soundtrack CD, will be available for an expected price of US$59.99. Both the standard and Limited editions of the game include the first month of online game play. After the first month, players will be charged a monthly subscription fee of US$14.99. Sixty-day game time cards will also be available at many North American retailers for an expected price of US$29.99.

In Auto Assault, players choose from three races and venture into a post-apocalyptic Earth wreaking havoc and vying for control over the few resources left. Players can design their characters and customize many different vehicle chassis to make their own unique fleet of death machines. Players may go on missions with others or on their own, craft unique items, and participate in player-versus-player combat via the arena system and contested outpost battles. No matter what they are doing, players are encouraged to interact with the game world by blasting through buildings, leveling towns and destroying just about everything they see.

“Auto Assault is a truly unique game, and a fantastic addition to our catalog,” said Robert Garriott, CEO of NCsoft North America. “There is nothing like it in the MMO game space – it is easy to play, fast, and very fun. Auto Assault gives players the best of action games, the best of role-playing games and a super-cool world to discover and destroy.”

The release of Auto Assault represents both a continuation of NCsoft’s efforts to provide gamers many compelling products to play online, and the beginning of another great service with free content updates and expansions in the years to come. Additionally, a veteran rewards program has been put in place for players who subscribe to Auto Assault within the first thirty days of service.

If you're bored with all of the fantasy type games, this is the game for you!

  • Who knew the nerds in choir would be so popular?

It's one of those things at the top of any gamer's list when looking at a new game: "Which class is right for me?" For gamers eagerly awaiting Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (LOTRO), knowing the name of each class isn't enough. Fans of Tolkien's work want to know how each class preserves the lore of Middle-earth while providing a workable game mechanic. Ralsu takes a peek at the Minstrel and tells us what to expect:

Turbine's description of Minstrel by itself is not revealing, but reading in combination with the Morale System is. If the entrance of a balrog into the room reduces everyone's morale--making it easier for them to die--the Fellowship (a party in LOTRO) is doubly disadvantaged: they face a more difficult foe and they will die sooner. The Minstrel counters that with her songs, which raise the morale of all in the Fellowship.

  • DDO Wizards and Sorcerers Take Note...

So, your Dungeons & Dragons Online wizard or sorcerer is now ready to cast 3rd level spells. Which ones are winners? Which ones are...not? Darkgolem explores the mystical realms of arcane magic and offers his detailed information and ratings of 3rd level arcana.

Rage - 'Causes target for fly into a screaming block frenzy, gaining phenomenal strength and durability, but becoming reckless. Grants a bonus to strength, constitution and will saves, but causes target to take a penalty to armor.' Grants +2 str, +2 con –2 dex +1 will save. Can cast, can sneak, while under this effect, unlike barbarian rages. Stacks with Haste, ability buffs such as Bull’s Strength, and Heroism, except the will save will not stack with Heroism. A fine spell for the wizard whose allies are warriors.

  • Dun dun DUN! Blizzard bannage.

According to the World of Warcraft community site, Blizzard's banned 5,400 accounts and suspended 10,700 more since patch 1.10 went live the week before last. The reason? Widespread looting and violence caused by the Blizzard's April Fools' Day jokes? Nope.

Many account closures come as the direct result of tips reported to our GMs in game or emailed to [email protected] by legitimate World of Warcraft players. If you suspect that a World of Warcraft player is using an illegal third-party program to farm gold or items, or is otherwise violating our Terms of Use, please report the suspected infraction via one of the means listed above. All reports will be investigated, and those that prove false will not result in corrective action.

Razor (over at Warcry) believes this will only result in 5,400 more copies of WoW being purchased. If he's right, what a deliciously Machiavellian marketing ploy.

  • A Critical Hit?

Though reviews of Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach have been guardedly positive, many in the industry are wondering how well certain game elements (e.g. "forced" grouping to make much real progress, a short yet very steep climb to the 10th and highest level) were translating into pageviews. According Tom Nichols, Turbine's VP of Marketing, business is "rolling" along.

Nichols couldn't disclose the number of people that have bought the game and are currently subscribing, but he did confirm that the game was the largest in Turbine's history. "We expected success for Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO) because it represents a new paradigm for the MMO genre with unique features including party-based quests, integrated voice chat, real-time action combat, and award winning graphics that recreate the essence of the classic pen-and-paper roleplaying experience," said Nichols. "The response to the game has been terrific."

Enjoy the rest of this interesting DDO interview (it's not all business!) at GameDaily BIZ.

  • Any news is good news right now for Tabula Rasa. So with that said you can imagine how excited I was when I got my interview back.

How are things coming along with TR? What are some of the most recent developments in the project?

Starr: Things are coming along very nicely. Most of our work of late has been on content. We are almost complete with our first planet, the forest world of Foreas and have started on the second planet, the harsh volcanic world of Arieki. We have also been progressing through the character class tree and are finishing up the second tier as we speak. We have tons of new creatures, weapons, wearables, etc. that we will be showing off starting at E3 this year.

Want to know more? You'll have to read the interview!
