  • Those who can, bard.

The bard is a pivotal character in any party. Not confined to a single role, bards can bring melee damage, spells, cures, and Ability increases to a party in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO):

Jacks of all trades--masters of none. At the risk of boring you with a cliche, it's true: bards can dabble in almost anything, but another class will be better than them in any one task. Bards can fight, but rangers, fighters, and barbarians can do it better. Bards cast spells, but sorcerers and wizards do it better. Bards can heal, but clerics do it better. Bards can fight and cast spells and heal all at once. Nobody else can do that. On top of that, the benefits gained from bardic music makes a bard a valuable member to any party.

  • This just in... Warhammer Online is coming in 2007.

“’WAR’ is coming!” proclaimed Mark Jacobs, President and CEO at Mythic Entertainment. “We’re well into our first year of intensive design and development on the game that we believe will usher in the next generation of truly great MMO’s. With our expertise in RvR and a rich fantasy setting that is in a perpetual state of conflict, ‘WAR’ promises to be a game unlike any other.”

“The core concept behind ‘WAR’ is simple – war is everywhere,” explains Lance Robertson, Producer of “Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.” “This world, dominated by force of arms and magic, provides a wonderfully rich setting for an MMO. Our game will give player entrance into this world to experience the epic nature of war and the glory of battle. Every aspect of the game, including PvE content, is geared towards the greater war in some important way.”

To learn more about “WAR,” visit the game’s newly redesigned website: www.warhammeronline.com. Sign up for the monthly newsletter to receive exclusive stories, art, and game information, as well as a chance to take part in the game’s beta test.

It's really starting to look fantastic.

  • Improve your in-game game!

So you've had your fill of high adventure in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach for the day, and you just want to heal up and let off some steam in the local tavern, right? Suddenly you fasten your gaze on a foxy elf / strapping barbarian across the room. Your guildmates might call you directionally-challenged, they might call you a little weak in the character sheet department, but they can never say your one to pass up a promising encounter. You set down your tankard, slide off your stool with a flurry, and saunter towards the apple of your eye. But as you arrive and his/her eyes drift to yours, you realize... you've got nothing.

That's where TenTonHammer comes in, my friend. We'll toss you a perfect, randomly-generated icebreaker (courtesy of the TenTonHammer Randomizer) to set the mood!

Here's a sampling (though we recommend extreme caution when using any of Ethec's lines!):

    - Someone better contact the Sovereign Host, I think they're missing an angel!
    - No, I'm not Warforged, but you're not the first to mistake me for a machine... a love machine, that is!
    - Did one of you ladies finish a quest? I'm the reward.
    - Look… a rogue! You better give your heart to me before he tries to steal it!

And, sadly, there's plenty more where that came from at DDO - TenTonHammer!

  • A backstage pass for the next Guild Wars expansion...

Last week, ArenaNet hosted a Factions preview party at the Sci-Fi Museum in Seattle. There's lots of press on the event, some of which you can find at Penny Arcade, Gamespot, and Skewed. The big news announced at the event was the April 28th release date for Guild Wars: Factions, but there was a lot more going on than just speeches.

Our very own Samyel was lucky enough to attend the event. You can read all about my adventures traveling, exploring Seattle, and (most importantly!) getting to meet the real faces behind Guild Wars. Read it at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer!

  • We'll teach you how to fix your favorite rocket launcher!

How about where to find some duct tape to fix up some armor you found? Don’t worry! We now have a crafting section that contains all of the information to truly fix up your ride. Today’s update includes the basics on crafting and how to gather materials to begin your life as a tradesman. Check in frequently for more information on crafting, such as how to break, fix, and upgrade an item!

Ah, crafting. To create weapons, armor, and gadgets to blow your enemies to smithereens and survive their onslaught. Crafting is generally a simple endeavor in most MMORPGs. You take your materials and you make your item. After you’ve made enough items you get a skill point. When you’ve “earned” enough skill points then you can make new items. Eventually after enough of this you can make items people truly desire. Auto Assault doesn’t follow this tired and traditional way of crafting that has been rehashed since the beginning of online gaming. Instead it goes with a unique approach that delivers an in-depth crafting system that provides an interesting twist to item rarity.

  • Rogue-in' it Up!

Like to play games of hide n' sneak? Then your class of choice in Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach is probably the rogue. Orogurath tells you how to stay alive, impress your teammates, and give good stealth in this handy guide.

Staying alive and healthy is best done by liberal use of your hide/sneak skill. Even in the thick of combat, you can hide and reduce the likelihood that certain mobs will target you. This will reduce the aggro you generate and allow you to escape more easily from danger. You should rarely attack first. Sometimes your group will ask you to Sap a mob or try for a critical against a sleeping monster, but most of the time, you should be finishing fights, not starting them.
