  • Gamespot had the chance to interview "Lord British" and got some great tidbits on his thoughts of the industry and why he thinks that Tabula Rasa is going to break the traditional MMO boundaries.

S: Looking at the previous inductees to the Hall of Fame, pretty much all of them are still very active. At the same time, though, the Hall of Fame induction in most fields is kind of a career retrospective. I'm wondering if you worry or concern yourself at all that maybe your largest impact upon the industry has already been made.

RG: That thought has at least crossed my mind, and, interestingly, I don't think so. And the reason why I don't think so is because Ultima Online wasn't that long ago. You could have made that argument previous to Ultima Online.

I substantially believe that Tabula Rasa, the game I'm working on right now, is a dramatic departure from all other [massively multiplayer games] that have come before and will revitalize this segment again.

  • A big party will be held with lots of baloons, cake and bloodshed!

On March 24, 2006, game players around the globe are invited to participate in the Guild Wars Factions Preview Event, an exclusive and one-time opportunity unlike any offered before.

All current Guild Wars players can join the event, and will be able to invite up to three of their friends using an in-game invitation interface. Entry into the beta event will also be available through the Guild Wars Factions pre-order package, which will include the Guild Wars Factions (GWF) pre-order CD, a GWF beta access key, a "friend" key that allows access to the beta event, a 14-day, 10-hour trial key for the original Guild Wars game, a tactical guide, and a quick-reference card. The Guild Wars Factions pre-order key also adds one unique item for each of the game's two new professions, the Ritualist and the Assassin, and authorizes the user to play Guild Wars Factions 24 hours before the game's street date in spring 2006. The Guild Wars Factions pre-order package will be available in retail stores nationwide beginning February 28.

    Sounds like fun!

  • Well 'tis the season and 1up has the exclusive info on what Blizzard plans to do for this day of love and mush.

In order to make any headway in this rose-colored endeavor, gamers will need to stock up on "Love Tokens" from Innkeepers, which apparently constitutes the currency of love during the event. Blizzard states, specifically, that "In each capital, most of the guards and a couple dozen townsfolk are infected with amore. Periodically, they will become "Amorous" -- you'll know this by the floating heart above their head. An Amorous NPC is receptive to gifts of love, specifically Love Tokens (purchased from innkeepers). In return for a Love Token, they will reward the player with their own gifts. Some of these gifts are toys for players to play with, while others are "quest" items used to create Gift Collections." It gets more complicated than that though. Nothing is ever easy in the game of love, and as in real life, there is the horrifying possibility of rejection. But don't despair, where there's a will there's a way. In the event of rejection "there is a small chance when a player gives a Love Token to an NPC that he or she will be rejected. When this occurs, players will become "Heartbroken" for a certain amount of time. However, players can help their heartbroken friends by giving them a Friendship Bracelet and displaying the 'Power of Friendship.'"

Hah to Boomjack! People ARE going to be saying "Just one more friend and I'll log off." I guess I'm going to have to switch from auto kill mode to auto hugs. It's a little disconcerting.

  • "Inventory is full."

No other message brings a faster end to a quest chain run or a profitable instance crawl in World of Warcraft than this one... well, except for a server shutdown message. This guide is all about increasing your inventory space. Are there simple quests for decent bags? How difficult is it to tailor your own bags? What are soul bags, quivers, and shot pouches?

At no time during the game will you feel the need for a bag moreso than in the first 10 levels, especially if you don't get some high-level help with coin or bags. If you lack a sugar daddy (or mommy), no worries; just remember to sell off unneeded items every time you're near a vendor and you'll be fine. Really, all bags do is extend your time in the field and, until you leave the "newbie garden," this really shouldn't be an issue.

You start with a 16-slot bag, and if by level 7 you haven't looted two more 6-slot bags, I'd be very surprised. Crank out those quests, kill mobs while in transit, and before long you'll have some serious transit space. As you finish out the series of quests in the newbie zone, you'll likely be asked to travel into a mine or cavern of some sort. This area represents the first true challenge to your container space, so be sure to empty out your bags before you dive in.

Here's everything you need to know about bags and containers, only at WoW @ TenTonHammer!

  • Did you bring protection?

In Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach, Shayalyn and Ralsu take a seemingly simple job of protecting a crate of goods in Kenbrooke's basement. They are confronted by and entire gang of thieves intent on destroying the crate and killing them:

My spectral companion growled into the gloom once more and we spotted more brigands making their way toward us, trying to use stealth to remain undetected. Several of them were upon us quickly, and I saw both Ralsu and Aloyce take punishing blows from the thugs. I drew back, chanted an incantation, and healed them each by turn. Calten hung back in a corner, whispering his own magical words, and I watched as several bolts of magic tore into the flesh of the bandits, the manifestation of his spell.
