  • Bringing ruin to the ruins.

WoW @ Ten Ton Hammer's Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj guide continues to expand today with a guide to defeating Ayamiss the Hunter.

Ayamiss is the fifth boss in World of Warcraft's Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ20) and is a large flying insect similar to the many you have already encountered, except much larger. It is an interesting fight as you can not conventionally tank him while he is flying for the first half of the fight. Once on the ground though the fight is fairly standard.

Check out the complete guide here: WoW @ TenTonHammer's Guide to the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj.

  • A Guide to WoW's Tirisfal Glades, Levels 1-10

With their ghastly character model features and creepy starting zone, we figured we should do everything possible to make starting out as one of World of Warcraft's Undead as fright-free as possible. TenTonHammer provides everything you need to get from level 1 to 10 in Tirisfal Glades as quickly and painlessly as possible, including lore, a map, a region walkthrough featuring details on 35 quests, and links to additional resources. With this guide, "you" are all that's needed to put the "fun" in "Forsaken" (har har ::jaw falls off::).

"All Forsaken begin their un-lives in Tirisfal Glades, and you'll quickly find out that no race is more isolated than the Forsaken. Fighting not only against the Alliance forces but also the Undead Scourge held in ghastly thrall by the Lich King, few among even their allies in the Horde ranks would deem them trustworthy. Their presence is an aberration against nature, and their core motivations under the demon lord Verimathras are cloudy at best. Despite all the distrust, you'll note that many of the Forsaken simply wish to carry on their lives as before the Plague came; as you journey through Tirisfal Glades you'll see the twisted trappings of a humdrum existance. Apart from a few morbidly ambitious apothecaries, the Forsaken stance is predominantly defensive. "

Check out the WoW @ Ten Ton Hammer First 10 Levels in Tirisfal Glade guide, and give your corpse a new lease on life.

  • (sings) Buru... Buru.... Buru the Gorger, strong as he could be...

The folks at the World of Warcraft Ten Ton Hammer community have a new boss guide for ya. Buru the Gorger is the forth boss in the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ20) and is a very large tick. You think you dislike ticks in real life? Wait till you check out Buru!

Buru is a very entertaining encounter. The main reason is that EVERYONE gets to have a chance to kite him around his room. I find it very entertaining to try to kite a boss around since it is not a normal task for many classes. Hence Buru is one of my favorite encounters.

Find out all about beating Buru here: TenTonHammer's Guide to the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ20) at WoW - TenTonHammer.

  • This is an interesting story on the social networks for MMO's. I happened across it today and you should take a look. You can read it all right here.

I just finished reading the awesome + amazing work of Nicolas Ducheneaut, Nicholas Yee, Eric Nickell, and Robert J. Moore. I imagine them as hyper-dorks at Stanford who built a scraper for analyzing social behaviors in World of Warcraft... only they got a little too high off of their MMORPG supply.

Just kidding. About the high part. They really did build a WoW scraper.

Their paper, "Alone Together?" Exploring the Social Dynamics of Massively Multiplayer Online Games (pdf) blew brain chunks out the back of my skull.

I've only read it through once, but came away feeling strongly that social networks, as they exist now, will soon be relics as new networks emerge that provide reward systems to enhance user experience with tools and recognition.

(also the paper made me wonder if social networks will become more immersive as well... is Second Life the future of social networks?).

As a social network hobbyist I recognize that this concept could exist in practice already. Forgive me if it's been done and be sure to point me to where and by whom.

On a side note... WoW is surely the worst game to study social networks considering there aren't any. Have you tried socializing on a mature level in that game lately?

  • I feel like this is De'ja Vu. Don't you?

In order to address an issue affecting realm stability, we have disabled pre-existing character transfers and templated characters on the public test realms. We have isolated the issue and we are currently working on a solution; however, until the matter is resolved character transfers will not be available.

  • Them's fightin' words!

Chinese CEO William Ding takes PvP into the board room, saying that Netease has what it takes to compete in China, and Blizzard (of World of Warcraft fame, et al) doesn't.

Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) knows China better than competitor Blizzard, reports Shanghai Securities News quoting Netease CEO William Ding after the company reported its first quarter financial results on Thursday. Ding said Netease' success in the Chinese online game market is enhanced by its skill at attracting Chinese consumers with traditional Chinese culture. Ding also said that Netease develops online games strictly targeting Chinese gamers while Blizzard's online game World of Warcraft broadly targets the international gaming market.

Ding's efforts could be aided by the fact that whenever he's introduced to a room full of MMO gamers, they reflexively say "Gratz!"

Check out Netease's bold statements toward World of Warcraft and Blizzard at Pacific Epoch.

  • The new newsletter is out. Since I'm on a Chronicles of Spellborn bent lately all I can say is that you absolutely need to sign up for it and read the information within. I know I know. You're saying "Awen, you seem to get excited about alot of these games."

You are absolutely correct. There are so many games out right now that look fantastic. It could be my absolute need to get away from WoW but I don't think so.

However, I digress. Go to the Chronicles of Spellborn site and sign up for the newsletter. You won't be sorry.

The 8th TCoS newsletter has been sent out! Among the regular items the newsletter contains lore about the destruction of the Ancestor World, a multi screen wallpaper and information about the upcoming dev chat!

Because of the large number of subscribers, it might take a while before all copies have been sent out. As always comments are welcome in the forum thread linked below.
