  • MTV discovers another non-music channel.
    Stephen Totilo of has delved deep into the music archives to write an article about weather in World of Warcraft.

    "Kaplan said Blizzard's weather team — game designers accustomed to being the godlike architects of the worlds they create — talked about a system that would have them decreeing the weather day by day, but opted to set up a program and leave the weather patterns to computerized number-crunching. "If we were to sort of handpick the weather for each day, we would probably do it in such a way that you wouldn't notice that someone was handpicking it, in which case it's like, 'Why go through that trouble in the first place?' " Kaplan said."

  • Ready for Auto Assault’s launch on 4/13?

    Xerin, over at Auto Assault - TenTonHammer community site, has a brand new section called the Human Starting Guide. Thought humans were the "boring" race to play? Not so! Being the race least well suited to the wastelands but the most adaptive, humans have some very cool tech, not to mention a few tricks up their sleeve.

    To use your hazard mode, simply activate the /!\ hazard button in your lower left hand side, next to the INC button. Once activated you will have a short time with your new found incredible power. Drive into as many things as possibly, blowing them to smithereens. Let nothing stand in your path of justice, destroy everything possible. Once it’s down, it’ll be a long time before it’s available again. So make the most out of it.

  • Trouble Brewing for the Talenta Halflings

    Enter episode three of DDO - TenTonHammer's weekly comedy series, "Enter the Halfling." Trouble plagues the talenta halflings as Cailag endures torment-by-pastry while Pigface fumbles through a bleary-eyed game of Fuzzy Duck at the Wayward Lobster Ale-lympics. Looks like it's up to Preston to save Cailag from his grim fate...with a little help.

    Preston looked across the bar. What would Cailag want him to do--cheer Pigface to glory at the Ale-lympics; or rescue him? And in what order? He muttered something unintelligible, then stepped outside into the night air. Finally, he decided; he would let Pigface seek his title while he, Preston, went off in search of their companion. This was a job for steady (and moderately sober) hands.

  • Enchantments in DDO

    Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in doing the most damage possible with spells in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO). But Darkgolem shows us that sometimes the best use for spell points in DDO is enchantments. In "Mind-bending Magic," we learn just what enchantments are, what they do, and how to use them to our fullest advantage:

    Charms are used as both a means of crowd control (reducing the number of enemies attacking your party without killing them) and a means of damage...since the accomplished spell caster can have several creatures charmed at one time--and these creatures can be improved to increase their effectiveness by buffs such as bards song, bless, haste and so on--you can still add the support of effective damage capacity with your party.

    NCSoft obtaining controling interest in NC Sina has pushed The9 stocks up over 40% in two weeks. The9 is one of China's largest online game portal companies.

    "Korean game developer NCSoft has recently assumed full control of its "NC Sina" joint venture by acquiring the 51% stake held by former partner Sina Corp. This development has, in turn, fueled speculation that NCSoft might choose The9 Limited to operate its popular online game Guild Wars in China, which would be a boon to The9."

    Traditionally, MMOGs have offered all sorts of incentives to keep subscribers happily addicted, from the promise of advancement to the highest levels, to quests for fantastic items. Level advancement will always be an incentive in any online game, but decent items and cash are actually easy to come by in DDO, making that grind-for-glory a little less crucial than it seems to be in other games. So where is that necessary incentive to keep playing?

    This week’s common content editorial is all about what makes us hopeful to play Auto Assault.     What makes me anxious to play Auto Assault? Lot’s of things! I’ve always been a fan of interesting, exciting, and fresh MMORPGs. Games that snag at your attention with unique gameplay and exciting concepts, then delivers on them. Auto Assault to me is that unique blue butterfly within a swirling abyss of stereotypical yellow Monarch butterflies. Something new, something fresh, but at the same time something that you can understand. Something that doesn’t seem completely foreign to you, something that is similar to FPS and MMORPG gaming. Yet at the same time not a complete copy of them. Fast, furious, and competitive gameplay that leaves you wanting more and more.
