  • Guild Wars joins in on the Halloween ruckus.
Arena.net waxes poetic with the announcement of a new schmaltzy, yet fun Halloween quest for players of Guild Wars:

When the moon rises high over Lion's Arch
And the wind moans through the most hollow of eves

    Shutter your homes this holiday
    Steer clear of the shadows
For on this night, they say,

A long-addled spirit returns from the grave
    Pumpkin upon his head,
A wicked deed within his heart
A pint of witch's brew for all those who misbehave

Heed these words, all ye who dare enter here:
Bind your souls to the mortal realm
For the regent of madness draws near.

When they say "regent of madness," is Tom Cruise making a guest appearance? Read through the Guild Wars Halloween update notes to find out!

  • Mars attacks...
The devs hosted one last hurrah for City of Villains testers before closing beta: a full-scale alien invasion. Gamecloud has the details:

The final battle for the Rogue Islands was fierce but ultimately fatal for the bad guys as the beta for City of Villains finally came to an end. With the game being the only major new MMORPG title releasing this fall we expect that it will be a huge seller both for fans of the original City of Heroes and new fans who have been waiting for the chance to play as the bad guy. The game itself is scheduled to ship to stores on Oct. 31 but players who pre-ordered the game will be able to access City of Villains a few days earlier.

  • Lexus With Lasers.
Worthplaying has posted some new Auto Assault screenshots on their site. I for one am all for car-mounted weapons.

"Combine fast-paced vehicular combat with high-tech, futuristic weaponry and hundreds of intense skills and you get Auto Assault – a unique departure from traditional Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs). Hop in your own customized cars, semis, and motorcycles and prepare to fight the mutated creatures and bandits of Auto Assault's post-apocalyptic world. Battle other players both in arenas and in epic race vs. race wars for control of the regions in a devastated Earth. Auto Assault uses the power of the Havok physics engine to let you make insane jumps, send obstacles flying and even blast bridges, buildings, fences and trees with your car-mounted rockets. Anything you can hit, you can destroy! "

  • More tights than an IBM board meeting.
Boomtown has posted some fantastic shots of the City of Villains character screens. Strangely absent is the Martha Stewart character screen.

" There are just four days left before City of Villains goes live. As you already know, character customisation is a key feature of Cryptic Studios' epic and today NCsoft Europe has images to illustrate just some of the options that will be available to players on 31st October. "

  • Mastermind movie.
NCSoft has released another City of Villains movie. The focus this time is on the mastermind archetype. No sign of Pinky and the Brain.

" This video features the Mastermind Archetype. The Mastermind is able to summon minions and use them to attack opponents. Some of the henchmen available include zombies, ninjas, soldiers and robots. "

  • Beta is over, here come the villains.
GameCloud have posted their final impressions of the City of Villains beta. The game is scheduled to release on October 31st, with pre-order customers jumping in two days early.

" Last month we got our first chance to play the beta version of City of Villains, the stand alone expansion to the hit super hero themed MMORPG from developer Cryptic Studios and publisher NCSoft. At the time we wondered how the two separate games would co-exist and if players of the original would leave for the sequel. Since that time NCSoft announced that players would be able to play both games for the same $14.95 a month fee, something that Sony Online pioneered with their $21.95 a month fee for access to all of their MMORPG titles. • It's massive. It's multiplayer. It's a boardgame.
You can now pre-order the World of Warcraft board game. I guess you play this on Tuesdays when the game is down for patching. An interesting note, is that the board game costs more than the video game.

" Adventure across Lordaeron, vanquish terrible monsters, take home incredible treasures, and fight for the honor of the Alliance! ...or the Horde. Pre-order your copy of World of Warcraft: the Board Game today! Not only will you get your game immediately upon its release, but you'll get special limited-edition goodies free! "

  • In case you were thinking Mustafarian had something to do with Reggae music...

SOE previews the November Star Wars Galaxies: Trials of Obi-Wan expansion by way of showing us some new equipment and house items that can be found on the inhospitable lava planet of Mustafar. It's enough to elicit gutteral noises from any excitable Wookie.

Mustafar, once a simple mining planet, now suffers in the merciless grip of greed. Treasure hunters and mercenaries of all sorts risk their necks to cross dangerous lava fields, battle renegade droids and explore deep into old republic facilities still armed with dangerous defense grids because the lure of treasure is so great.

  • Villanous SuperBases.
Boomtown has posted some great screenshots of the City of Villains bases.

    "
Base building is one of the main new features in City of Villains and
these new shots demonstrate how a fully equipped base can look like.
Everything costs money though, so you'll need a big
supergroup/villaingroup to afford a high class base like this.
