  • DDO's Unmatched Warriors

Masters of arms, gladiators, and soldiers--fighters in Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach (DDO) are peerless in their combat versatility and skill. If you have chosen fighter as your character DDO, you'll want to know the best tactics to use for your party. Gol of Argonessen has you covered:

You should have the highest AC, and you have one of the highest health totals, too. You should also be leading the charge into battle when drawing monsters out is not an option. Another key method to keeping monsters on you (sometimes called "keeping the aggro") is the use of your Intimidate skill. Fighters are tied for the fewest skill points of any class, and aren't exactly known for being all that intelligent. However, Intimidate is one of your skills. Make use of it. A successful Intimidate ensures the monster will stay on you for at least 6 seconds.

Read the rest of A Soldier's Field Manual: Fighter Tactics in DDO and be ready for combat!

  • Interview with the Guild Leader.

Okay, so we can't give you an interview with a vampire like Anne Rice did. How about giving you an interview with a Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach guild leader who stays up really really late and may or may not have fangs?

One month has passed since the launch of Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach. The DDO Ten Ton Hammer guild (appropriately named Ten Ton Hammer) formed pre-launch during the head start event and has been going (and growing) strong ever since. Ralsu talks with TTH Guild leader, Shayalyn, about the guild and its members in this interview.

Ralsu: What are the people of TTH like?

Shayalyn: They're some fine people, if I do say so myself. I've found everyone I've had the pleasure of grouping with to be exceptionally helpful and generous. (In fact, every time we open a chest we go through a round of, "I got such-n-such item--anyone need it?") And many of us also have well defined senses of humor. I've never literally laughed out loud so often as when I'm out adventuring with some of our guild groups. (If you're ever on the Sarlona server and happen across a dwarf named Brockton, ask him to tell you the sad saga of Spunky the lab rat and the bizarre glass factory accident.)

  • LFG - Have C.E.O. still need janitors.
According to the Inquirer, employers or in this case one employer, Yahoo is looking to hire World of Warcraft players.

"According to him the reason he was hired was he played WoW. Apparently if you are an effective World of Warcraft guild master you get a crash course in leadership."

  • Koster's last stand?
It's official, Raph Koster, one of the main team members behind Star Wars Galaxies, and previously a team member working on Ultima Online has left Sony Online Entertainment (as reported earlier by TenTonHammer). GameSpot had this to say about that:

"Koster's departure wasn't the only piece of scuttlebutt making the rounds today, but it was perhaps the most accurate. There was also a rumor circulating that SOE would soon lose the rights to the Star Wars license--and suffer the fate of having to delete or otherwise retire the "Star Wars" component of its Galaxies MMORPG title; SOE called that speculation "completely untrue.""

GameSpot's take on the change can be read right here.

  • Raph Koster leaving SoE?
A little bird landed on my window this morning and told me that Raph Koster was leaving Sony Online Entertainment. At this point it is just an unsubstantiated rumour, but it appears that Kotaku also has the same bit of information.

"A mole sends us word that Raph Koster has left the SOE to start up a new games studio. Cindy Armstrong, head of Business Development, has taken an offer to become the new USA honcho for Webzen. Moreover, Lucas Arts is not extending their Star Wars license. Yikes."

I'll let you shoot on over to Kotaku to read what they have to say. At this point, it's just rumour.

  • Mazdas with mortars! Coming soon!
A big round of clap for the folks at NetDevil. Auto Assault will be shipping to stores on April 13th with pre-order customers getting a head-start on the 9th!

"AUSTIN, Texas, March 22, 2005—NCsoft® North America announced that Auto Assault® has reached gold master status and will appear on retailers’ shelves in both North America and Europe April 13. Also, customers who purchase and register their Auto Assault pre-order boxes will receive the benefits of a special in-game weapon and loot bonus, plus a four-day head start for game play.

Auto Assault, the sixth major online game published by NCsoft, was developed by Colorado-based developer, NetDevil®, LTD. The first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in a post apocalyptic setting, Auto Assault combines fast action with the depth of role-playing games and features fully destructible environments. The game is also expected to launch service simultaneously in North America and Europe on April 13. Pre-order customers may participate in the four-day head start beginning at 9 a.m. EST on April 9. Players who wish to participate in the head-start may purchase the Auto Assault pre-order box, currently available at retailers across North America, and register the product at www.PlayNC.com.

Auto Assault is a dream come true for gamers who enjoy the depth of traditional online role-playing games but crave the fast, frenetic pace of action games,” said Robert Garriott, CEO of NCsoft North America. “This title has everything you’d expect from a MMORPG – all at 100 miles per hour.”

“We are very excited about the upcoming launch of Auto Assault, but this is just the beginning,” said Scott Brown, president of NetDevil and project lead. “One of the reasons we partnered with NCsoft is that they provide the best value to their customers, with free content expansions in addition to other ways to grow their game worlds. Auto Assault customers will be able to enjoy new content for years to come.”

In Auto Assault, players can choose to be a Human, Mutant or Biomek character and set out in a post apocalyptic land in personalized combat vehicles, fighting for the few resources left on a shattered Earth. Combat is extremely fast-paced and challenges abound as players blast through buildings, set fire to forests, and level entire settlements. Player avatars may own many different vehicles, specialize in several crafting disciplines to create truly unique items, and participate in player-versus-player battles both in arena combat and in contested outpost areas.

Auto Assault’s standard edition box will be available at an expected retail price of US$49.99. The Limited Edition, which includes a headset to utilize the game’s voice chat system, will be available for an expected retail price of US$59.99. Both the standard and Limited editions of the game include the first month of online game play. After the first month, players will be charged a monthly subscription fee of US$14.99. Sixty-day game time cards will also be available at many North American retailers for an expected retail price of US$29.99. The game is rated Teen by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.
