  • What Will The Future Bring To Blizzard?

IGN.com has posted an interview with Blizzard's COO, Paul Sams. They had a chance to sit down with him at the recent Games Convention 2006 in Leipzig, Germany.

At just shy of 7 million global users, World of Warcraft is by far the most popular MMO games out there, and is one of the only MMOs to experience rampant success in North America and Europe as well as Asia. In addition to an English version of the game, you can find World of Warcraft in German, French, Korean, Chinese, and there's a Spanish version coming soon. At this rate, World of Warcraft is well on its way to being the most-translated game in the world.

While World of Warcraft was released in Europe in February 2005, four months after the U.S., sales are still very strong in that region as well as around the world. Sams tells us that August 2006 was the biggest sell-through month for the game in Europe, with even more copies sold than in November or December of 2005.

Keep reading to see what Sams has to say. Haven't joined the WoW Community here at Ten Ton Hammer yet? Well now's your chance! Head over to WoW Ten Ton Hammer and sign up. It only takes a moment and then you can share your thoughts with us aout this and all your favorite MMOs.

  • Amber and Jeremy Weldon on Playing WoW Together as Husband and Wife

WoW and Marriage, WoW and Marriage... do they go together like a tank and bandage? Meet Amber and Jeremy, two stereotype-breaking proud parents who help make up the estimated 26% of total MMO playerbase who are married with children. What does it take to game together without turning your happy home into an impromptu a PvP battleground? The Weldons share their secrets to successful massively matrimonial online gaming, plus a little bit about their online lives together too.

"Amber: I might get frustrated if Jeremy levels too fast, or if he stays up too late raiding, or plays the game when I'd rather go out somewhere, but I don't stay mad long. Because more often than not, I'm right there staying up till 2 or 3 am with him or catching up to him in levels on an alt while he's raiding with his main. We game for fun. Once it gets to where it's not fun (we've had it happen before--with [Ultima Online]), then we find something else to do that will be fun."

  • WoW Coming to a Console Near You?

Eurogamer.net has posted an interview with Blizard's COO Paul Sams. In this interview he discusses the console issue and much much more! Keep reading...

It's odd to learn that Blizzard Entertainment might be wary of taking on a new challenge. After all, the decision to create a Warcraft MMORPG, despite the huge amounts of time, money and risk involved, worked out rather well.

So well, in fact, that the game is now played by more than 6 million players worldwide - and counting. What's more, they're all forking out at least $12.99 a month for the privilege, which means Blizzard probably isn't having too much trouble paying the bills. Namely the bills for their champagne fountains, personal helicopters and office chairs made out of melted-down fabergé eggs. Possibly.

But as all good businesses know, you can never have too much money. So, what with the next-gen battle truly kicking off at the end of this year, it seems logical that Blizzard might turn its attention to consoles next. Surely there's a huge section of the gaming audience crying out for a console version of World of Warcraft - and since they'll be willing to pay for the privilege, surely Blizzard will oblige?

Find out the answer and then head over to WoW Ten Ton Hammer and tell us what you think!

  • PC Games Travels to Australia

PC Games recently made the trek down under to talk with the folks at Auran. Lead Designer Adam Carpenter took some time to answer questions about Fury.

Is Fury really much different from all the other MMOs out there? What aspects of the game will make long-time RPG fans want to shell out their hard-earned cash?

I’d really have to say that the question is not “Is Fury much different…”, it’s “Does Fury have any similarities…”.

Fury is fundamentally a PVP game, but ours is not like PVP in other MMOs where ganking and unfair tactics run rampant. Fury is more like a sports game where competition between players is not only expected but desired. War Zone battles pit two equally skilled teams against each other in a competition to prove who the better team is. Like sports, there are no extreme penalties for losing and whether you win or lose, you advance and can do better in the next fight.

  • Profession Guide Update - "First Aid"

Looking to restore your health in a speedy and efficient manner? Look no more! First Aid allows you to restore your health in and out of combat. Spend less time between fights, duck behind a bush and restore your hp, and much more! While your at it, take a look at our First Aid guide that's just been updated with even more information so that you can get the most of the First Aid skill!

"First Aid is a skill that allows you to craft and use bandages from cloth (generally obtained from Humanoid enemies). Bandages, like their application in real life, allow you to restore your characters hit points. Like most restoration abilities, bandages can only be used when nothing is hitting you. Even with this limitation, they are still very valuable in both during and after combat."

Check out the rest of the updates in this guide. Do you think we missed anything? Let us know in the forums at WoW Ten Ton Hammer.

  • Basic Training: Does WoW Offer Enough?

Our editorial theme this week is "back to school", and WoW @ Ten Ton Hammer staffer Greg "Doogmeister" Wood weighs in with a critical look at how Blizzard treats new World of Warcraft players. Are tutorial pop-ups and "breadcrumbing" quests enough, or is there room for improvement?

"Right from the start, the game is offering you useful advice in the pop-up boxes. For example, telling you how to find quest givers, loot corpses and engage enemies. As new experiences come up in the game, there continue to be pop-up boxes giving you instructions. Even in the later stages of the game, pop-up confirmation text (eg. when you will change an enchant/item improvement) reminds even the more experienced players of something they may have overlooked."

Read the rest of this editorial to see if you agree with Doogmeister. Find his opinion in sync with yours? Think he's off his rocker? You know what to do...hit the forums at WoW Ten Ton Hammer and speak up!
