World of Warcraft News

  • Is 1.10 fixed? No? Let's talk 1.11!

    Blizzard is dropping hints about what's in store for World of Warcraft patch 1.11. Apparently it's the mage's turn for an overhaul - the devs hope to provide interesting talent tree choices (cool!) and decrease their downtime (um... downtime? in World of Warcraft? I must be old-school.)

    Anyway, we'll stop waffling now and get to the point: Blizzard has provided first details on the forthcoming 1.11 patch for WoW. What's really only a sneak peek at plans for the update reminds us that it's the Mage that's the World of Warcraft character class receiving an overhaul this time around, talents undergoing a revamp and the developer looking at improvements which "include easing a mage's downtime between fights and opening some new, interesting talent builds through changes to all the mage's talent trees."

    CVG has the scoop on the 1.11 changes, check 'em out!

  • ABC News, "World of Warcraft is the new golf."
    I read it on the Interweb, so it must be true. ABC News as part of their PC Magazine section has posted an article on WoW becoming a channel to meet and network with business contacts.

    "Overheard at brunch: two tech entrepreneur types discussing World of Warcraft. "What server are you on? What guild? Yeah, me too. It's a good way to schmooze." Is that true? Has logging on to the world's most popular massively multiplayer online game replaced a few rounds on the links as the way to make the right business connections in our tech-driven culture?"

  • MTV discovers another non-music channel.
    Stephen Totilo of MTV.com has delved deep into the music archives to write an article about weather in World of Warcraft.

    "Kaplan said Blizzard's weather team — game designers accustomed to being the godlike architects of the worlds they create — talked about a system that would have them decreeing the weather day by day, but opted to set up a program and leave the weather patterns to computerized number-crunching. "If we were to sort of handpick the weather for each day, we would probably do it in such a way that you wouldn't notice that someone was handpicking it, in which case it's like, 'Why go through that trouble in the first place?' " Kaplan said."

  • Four new realms are open for the masses. The good news is that there are four. The bad news is that they're mostly PVP.

    We are proud to announce that on Thursday March 23 at 12:00 PM PST we will be launching four brand new realms! These realms will be available for all players to start fresh adventures in Azeroth!

    * Turalyon - PvE
    * Haomarush - PvP
    * Scilla - PvP
    * Ysondre - PvP

    You better start thinking of a good name for your new character before someone else reserves it first!
