    Games Radar has taken the time to write up their thoughts on this recent expansion to EVE Online.

    This is a bit awkward. EVE Online Revelations, the expansion to EVE Online, is a constantly evolving MMO. We’re reviewing Revelations but it’s actually an ongoing series of patches; for now we can only review the first installment in the sequence.

    Upsettingly, it hasn’t brought with it the major graphical overhaul, or any of the snazzy DirectX 10 stuff that CCP have been talking about during 2006. Nor has it fixed really hardcore problems like the sovereignty system used to capture player-owned stations. Without these things, the changes Revelations brings feel premature. I’d rather have waited for a massive installment some time in 2007.

  • CCP's Huni "TomB" Hinrichsen talks about EVE Online's New Combat Features. posted this interview yesterday. Keep reading to learn more these new features. The new changes to the gang system seem to be focused on making them more manageable both for players and your server cluster. What changes do you expect to see in the way large fleet battles are fought with this new system?

    Huni “TomB” Hinrichsen: There are a lot of improvements that the new gang system creates. Broadcasts give faster and better communication between gang members whereas before they had to spend time searching for the target objective once they’d received it via voice communication or chat text. The group system allows the commanders to create squadrons or wings that are dedicated to a specific role such as a group of electronic warfare specialists or logistical support and so on.

  • EVE's senior producer talks Revelations, the future, and acquiring infamy within the game. had a chance to sit down with Nathan Richardsson recently. Keep reading to see what they were able to learn.

    GSUK: EVE's population has doubled year on year since launch, which means that in 12 months you'll hit the maximum population possible. What will you do then?

    NR: Yeah, though we do have a couple of solutions. Firstly, we're always optimising the code itself. A lot of it is three years old, it's not the best scalable code, so we'll rewrite a lot of that. Number two, we have more hardware that we can cluster, so we can increase the general capacity. Another problem lies with the content and it being consumed too quickly, so we'll come to that in the future, as well.

    The truth is, Eve Online is not a casual gamer experience, and nowhere near to being so, even with the release of the new expansion Revelations. It’s not even in the same galaxy, to use a pun. Eve Online is by far, one of the most difficult MMOs to learn that I have played, and I’ve played’em all (well, almost all of them). This does not mean I do not enjoy the game. In fact, you may think that, having read this review thus far, that I am strongly opposed to Eve . That couldn’t be further from the truth.

  • A New PCU Record - Close to 33,000 Users

    The official site for EVE Online has been updated with a note about their new PCU (Peak Concurrent User) record.

    A new peak concurrent user record was set Sunday, Dec 3rd when 32,955 users were logged into EVE Online: Revelations. This would not be that significant if not for the outstanding performance the Tranquility server demonstrated under this enormous load. According to preliminary log analysis the server cluster was at 47% capacity - A clear indication that the new Revelation expansion along with the accompanying hardware upgrades has brought the cluster to a new level.

  • EVE Online Launches Revelations

    In a press release issued by CCP, we learn more about the recently release Revelations...

    "Revelations is an extraordinarily massive expansion. Not only will it make it a great deal easier for new players to join the world of EVE Online but the more experienced inhabitants of EVE will also see some drastic changes in warfare operations, in direct trading, exploration and socialization." said Magnus Bergsson, CMO of CCP.

  • EVE Online: Revelations Deployment Completed!

    EVE Online has announced the launch of their newest free expansion, Revelations I.

    The deployment of EVE Online: REVELATIONS was completed on 29 November at 0200 GMT, an on-schedule deployment. The first of three installments in EVE Online's second major game expansion, Revelations brings a wide range of new content, features, updates and improvements to the EVE Online universe. You can view this information by visiting the EVE Online: Revelations Features and Patch Notes pages. Dev Blogs with information on some of the recent changes, additions and features are also available.

    Please note: The Revelations Patch is currently avalable for manual patching from the EVE Patches page. The full version client is in the process of being built and will be available shortly.

  • EVE Fanfest: A wealth of announcements and news in the second of three articles has the second in a series of three reports on the fanfest recently held at CCP Headquarters in Iceland.

    CCP Games didn't skimp on the news at their 2006 Fanfest. On top of the news about Revelations I and White Wolf, the company dedicated the third afternoon of the event to a series of enlightening presentations from key personnel. Their topics ranged from an educational seminar on the nature of evil, to voice in EVE, to the announcement that player avatars are in development.
