  • Two Exclusive Concept Images at RPG Vault

In their continuing look at Hero's Journey, RPG Vault has posted another Peek at the game. In this week's article we learn about the city of Quillmore and the verdant Grenmeer Lowlands around it in Simutronics' upcoming game

Once considered an outsider by the world's great power centers, Quillmore is now the last of the Old Blood cities, and finds itself as the keystone of Elanthia's restorative efforts. The remnant citizenry of hundreds of communities call Quillmore home and look to its ruling House to provide sanctuary in the wake of the Sundering.

  • Simutronics introduces Lorstra, a deity outside the trinity of Nature, Magic and Gear, whose agenda is reconciliation

Rakshaal are not native to the world of Elanthia. Rather, they come from Eisa, the Plane of Darkness. Before the Sundering, they arrived only as summoned servants of the Arcanum. Accountings describe them as handsome, with solid-colored eyes and leathery skin. However, those that visit now come on their own, and are twisted into monsters in transit. Among the three most familiar types, both the Vaklash and Gorrog possess supernatural powers, and enough intelligence to act as war-animals or independently, while the clever Ilorax are natural leaders that love battle, preferring to lead from the front, not the back.

  • There's a new peek of Hero's Journey up at RPG Vault.

    Urwir and the Triad

In Elanthia's theology, the Triad can be viewed less as a well-defined triumvirate and more as a balance of ideologies within the cycle of life.

For instance, Temsyne exemplifies the natural progression from birth to death, a progression in which Urwir and Takut operate. Neither god is less important than Temsyne, but there are boundaries that must be respected... or at least diplomatically circumvented when the need arises.

Ethec and I saw this at GDC and we're going to be checking it out again at E3. I cannot tell you how good this game looks. You can bet that I'll be taking a stab at it as soon as I can get my hands on an exe!

  • has the latest Heroes Journey Dev Journal and Screens. This one features Stephanie Shaver, Designer, Webmaster, formerly GameMaster Rowan of DragonRealms.

Those of you who have played tabletop RPGs like Vampire: the Masquerade, D&D, or GURPS know what a GameMaster (or DungeonMaster) is. For you newcomers who've never experienced the thrill of sitting around for eight hours while your character sat in a "charmed" state and ran around the map slaughtering the rest of your party members, allow me to explain.

A GameMaster, in the purest sense, is the person who builds the scenarios, monsters, non-player characters, world, and mechanics that their players must grapple with. Now, for those who have the money or friends with money, there are shortcuts. Nearly every GameMaster uses an already-established gaming system (though they may mod it to their own tastes). Some GameMasters build their own world using popsicle sticks and bits of twine, and some use a well-known world like Faerun or the Rifts universe to set their campaign in.

  • RPG Vault has a new peek at Simutronic's upcoming RPG title Heroes Journey.

    Artistic Inspiration
The wood sprites came about as part of an effort to infuse the enchanted forests of Elanthia with a necessary spark of life. Though we could have gone any number of directions with their design, it seemed like an appropriate place to utilize a somewhat traditional but popular notion of what denizens of the faerie realm look like - diminutive and delicate, colorful, nimble and capable of flight. In keeping with the blue-tinged forests, the coloration of the wood sprites is cool in tone with an animal theme; their wings borrowed from butterflies and their speckled skin influenced by vibrantly colored rainforest frogs.

Fairies, Sprites and Frogs.. Oh my!
