Hero's Journey Previews

  • Preview: Hero's Journey & HeroEngine

WarCry has updated thier site today with this look at Hero's Journey and the HeroEngine.

In their live development environment, two World Builders - for example - can be at work on the same part of one area and see what the others does in real time. Thus, one guy can decorate a house in a town, while the other guy places cows in the yard. In some engines, two developers working in a square mile of each other, let alone the same village is enough to make a producer's hair turn a shade more grey. That's not an issue for HeroEngine.

  • Hero's Journey, not your sit around the house playing WoW kind of story.
RPGVault has posted their Hero's Journey Peek #10. The included screenshots look superb. Who would have thought that a wagon could look so cool?

" Hero's Journey is a fantasy persistent state world being developed by one of the pioneers in the category, Simutronics. It takes place in the world of Elanthia, where a savage war has shattered entire societies. The remnants have ceased hostilities lest none survive, and are attempting to build a new civilization by working together within an alliance called the Triumvirate. Sadly, private agendas, greed, the blinding desire for power and simple malevolence stand in their way, including external threats like the otherworldly Rakshaal plus some that aren't as obvious. In this series, the team has agreed to tell us more. "

  • Peeking or Peeping?
RPG Vault has posted Hero's Journey Peek #7, featuring a new adversary, The Pack. Kevin Sorbo ignored us completely when we asked him if he like playing a hero on Hercules, but we are 100% confident that had he given us 10 seconds of his time he would have said this:

" We find out about The Pack, a new species of adversary the developers at Simutronics are creating to challenge you "

  • More lore than your heroic eyes can possibly journey through!

Simutronics designers Steph Shaver and Mike Doscher introduce us to a couple player races in "Hero's Journey" and to the inspiration behind an enemy clan's architecture. Lore makes my head hurt faster than opera night at a karaoke bar, but it's nice to see the kids enjoying themselves!

The Stoneborn include the stoic Burians, who excel as miners, metalworkers and brewers, and the Qwi, who are master tinkerers and builders. The combination has yielded many technological advances. Among the Ilvari, the ethereal Mistfolk are dedicated to magic and its secrets, while the Earthfolk focus on nature. The feline Suwari were once the former's pets. They too follow dual beliefs, the fastidious Domesticates being city dwellers whereas the Ferals embrace the wilderness. The original Old Blood Humans are stalwart and sturdy, while the Togs, who are easily distinguished by their greenish skin, are usually slightly taller and even bulkier.

  • Do all heroes have journeys?.
RPGVault has posted a Hero's Journey Peek #5, focusing on one of the creatures, the Targust. Vin Diesel once ran around the world in 22 minutes. He could have done it faster, but he stopped to say this:

"An introduction to the massive, immensely powerful Targust, one of the creatures we'll see in Simutronics' endeavor"

  • You take the high road and I'll take the low road and may the beasties be on the high road.
RPGVault has posted the fourth preview in their Hero's Journey series. Vin Diesel, the original hero, had this to say about Hero's Journey and RPGVault's coverage specifically:

"Three Simutronics team members join forces to inform us about Human settlements in their fantasy-themed project."

  • Let me tell you the story of a man named Xandeluth, a poor mountaineer couldn't keep the Suwari fed...
RPGVault has a preview of Hero's Journey posted. A Suwari, not to be confused with a Swahili once might have said something like this:

"When I began conceptualizing a look for the Suwari, I had in mind the quintessential rogue - a race that could be sly and lithe as easily as it could be nonchalant, haughty, or even a little exotic. It seemed almost natural, then, to draw inspiration from the feline mien in crafting these characters.

Having an admiration for the athletic ability inherent to the feline family, and having found much enjoyment in watching the seemingly effortless acrobatic feats performed by my own cats, I opted to design the Suwari with the leaner, more agile frames of the genus Felis cats rather than with the large-boned muscular bulk of the genus Panthera "big cats." As a result, the Suwari are somewhat diminutive in comparison to some of the other races in Hero's Journey, but when animated, this design allows for a sort of fluid strength, a natural spryness, and grace of movement. These aren't intimidating towers of muscle, but fleet-footed gymnasts."
