Irth Worlds (formerly known as Irth Online) is a fantasy-based MMORPG from Magic Hat Software that features a skill-based advancement system and an open-PvP environment. The skill-based advancement system is split into four different categories: Crafting, Foraging, Combat and Other. Like most skill-based systems, you have to advance each skill separately. However, Irth treats skills a bit differently, as you have to advance most skills by purchasing certain "manuals" that teach you how to advance your skill. Combat points, however, are increased through combat interaction.

When players begin in Irth Worlds, they can choose from four different races: Avarians, Arcadians, Mezoteks and Mortuses. Avarians have one defining feature, in that they are the only race that is not full-PvP to the rest of the world, meaning they cannot attack or be attacked by other characters. Interacting with NPCs in Irth is done through a right-click basis, much like how Runescape interaction works.

As a final note, Irth Worlds has actually purchased many of the animations that were being developed for the canceled MMOG, WISH, and are using many other purchased assets besides.

  • MMORGPDOT.com Interviews Magic Hat Software on their game Irth Online.

MMORPGDot: Your reactions aside, how has the overall player response been? The game is still in, more or less, the honeymoon period - have any major issues popped up that you didn't expect?

Tony Pungitore: First of all, we have the greatest community of any other MMO out there. The IO community is our greatest resource. Our community is actively involved with game development and they help us at every turn to refine mechanics, content and features. So things pop up all the time from the community and as a result the game is on a perpetual course of improvement.

The greatest thing for us is to take a player concern and turn it into player praise. One issue that the players considered major at release was no tutorial. The game was not released with a tutorial so players had to refer to the manual. Players want a manual as a reference and not as a learning tool. Players want to learn to play by playing. So we came up with a tutorial for them and they praised us.

Initially players said that combat was too slow. So we revamped combat and players applauded.

So sure there were issues and to some extent there will be others in the future. But the community has learned that we are responsive and intend on rectifying any issue that arises to the community's satisfaction.

Has Irth joined the contender list? Read the interview and decide for yourself.

  • Landing on Irth for the first time.
IGN has some new screenshots from Irth Online, the open-ended fantasy MMO released just yesterday by Magic Hat Software. The game is available by digital download for $29.99, with a $13.99/month subscription fee, and has some pretty easy-to-meet system requirements. If you're looking for a new eclectic MMO to obsess over, Magic Hat promises this isn't just another plain jane persistent-world game.

"The setting is an expansive environment in which a fragile peace exists among three diverse civilizations, the northern Arcadians, swamp-dwelling Morbus and tropical Mezoteks. Key features and elements that seem likely to interest players who prefer open-ended virtual worlds include a free-form storyline and a skill system in which it's said characters can learn any ability without racial or class-based restrictions."

  • Invade Irth on November 1st!
Magic Hat Software announced details regarding its pricing strategy and release date for its first MMO: Irth Online. The game can be purchased and downloaded online on November 1st for $29.95, and a monthly subscription will cost you about 14 bones, as they say in the midwest.

"Our November 1st release date is firm," says Alan Chipura, Lead Game Designer. "The many suggestions provided by our avid and loyal Beta testers were so valuable that we absolutely had to incorporate them, even though it caused a slight delay in the launch date to November 1st."

  • Apparently, this Irth can be mined for screenshots.

Every site and its brother is getting some exclusive Irth screenshots. The newest set at RPG Vault sport this description:

  • What should we name this MMO planet? How about...Irth! Brilliant!

New screenshots are available for the 2005 year ender fantasy MMO "Irth Online" at Stratics. The first is of "a stableboy going to work" - nudge, nudge, say no more, say no more!

Irth Online’s virtual world is populated by three distinct PvP civilizations -- The Arcadians in the snowy north, The Morbus in the southeastern swamps, and The Mezoteks in the tropical southwest – which have a thousand-year history of battling to capture the resources of the others to ensure survival. This persistent state of war inspired peace-loving pilgrims from all three civilizations to form their own civilization, and this fourth civilization in Irth Online is non-PvP, and survives via commerce in lieu of combat. Players join Irth’s history at a period when a fragile truce exists, and determine the course of history of each civilization.

  • Devs Timeline Brought Back to Irth

Worthplaying.com is reporting a September release date for Irth Online, the largest MMORPG (square km-wise) yet to be released. Beta 3 applications are also welcomed at this time.

One of the highlighted additions in Beta 3 is the incorporation of graphic assets purchased from recently-cancelled MMORPG Wish, including the introduction of an underground Dwarf City. The Irth Online development team anticipates that former Wish players will enjoy seeing some of their favorite characters, avatars, and action sequences come back to life in Irth Online. The inclusion of previously acquired Wish assets into earlier Irth Betas has been well received by gamers, especially by players who have converted their support from Wish to Irth Online.
