  • Koster's last stand?
It's official, Raph Koster, one of the main team members behind Star Wars Galaxies, and previously a team member working on Ultima Online has left Sony Online Entertainment (as reported earlier by TenTonHammer). GameSpot had this to say about that:

"Koster's departure wasn't the only piece of scuttlebutt making the rounds today, but it was perhaps the most accurate. There was also a rumor circulating that SOE would soon lose the rights to the Star Wars license--and suffer the fate of having to delete or otherwise retire the "Star Wars" component of its Galaxies MMORPG title; SOE called that speculation "completely untrue.""

GameSpot's take on the change can be read right here.

  • Raph Koster leaving SoE?
A little bird landed on my window this morning and told me that Raph Koster was leaving Sony Online Entertainment. At this point it is just an unsubstantiated rumour, but it appears that Kotaku also has the same bit of information.

"A mole sends us word that Raph Koster has left the SOE to start up a new games studio. Cindy Armstrong, head of Business Development, has taken an offer to become the new USA honcho for Webzen. Moreover, Lucas Arts is not extending their Star Wars license. Yikes."

I'll let you shoot on over to Kotaku to read what they have to say. At this point, it's just rumour.

  • From the land that "the" forgot, we bring you Kingdom of Sky.
GameSpot strapped on their balsa wings, flapped their arms and entered Kingdom of Sky. While they were there they even reviewed the latest expansion to the EverQuest 2 universe.

"The monsters that live at these altitudes take advantage of the new level range all the way to 70, so only the most advanced characters and groups can ply their skills here. For all the challenging creatures and quests awaiting you on the floating isles, though, it's still possible to take on monsters and other content solo, if you're careful about where and when you pick your fights. While adventuring in Norrath will likely always put an emphasis on group play (and raiding, to a certain extent), it's nice to see that you can still hoof around on your own without too much trouble. In addition to higher levels and better gear, the new achievement system helps make this a little easier, as well."

You can read the entire review of EverQuest 2: Kingdom of Sky at GameSpot.

  • Virtual friends, let me introduce you to the real world.
Our Vanguard: Saga of Heroes community team adds to their already fantastic look at what it takes to create and maintain a successful guild.

"There are certain factors that seem to define a guild, and to determine the chances of that particular guild for success or failure. Of course, nobody sets out to establish an organization, either online or in the real world, with failure as a goal. Still, there are four very basic components of a guild that define the ability of the people gathered under a common name to overcome obstacles and build a strong foundation. These for components include the Guild Structure; Guild Leadership; Guild Membership; and In-Game Support. "

  • Guild Wars world tour.
MMORPG.com toured the ArenaNET studios to take a look at Guild Wars: Factions, the upcoming expansion to the hit game.

"We were introduced to two of the four mission types that will be available in Factions, and we played each one of the new professions in two different scenarios. During the tour, we had seen the animators working on the dance animations and the “Signature” dances which will also include particle effects and NPC backup dancers, so the first thing everyone did was to try out the dance animation. With Game Designers Eric Flannum and John Peters coaching and accompanied by several other devs that provided back-up characters other than Assassins and Ritualists, we were off."
