  • Why do villains live in such dingy, dirty places?
IGN has posted a City of Villains interview featuring Senior Designer Sean Fish. On an island of villains backed by the U.N. we found the following etched into a slab of rock:

"Today we got the chance to talk to Senior Designer Sean Fish about what exactly a signature villain is, where they'll be in the game, and when players can expect to actually see them."

  • /moon Marvel. /moon DC.
GameSpot has 10 new City of Villains screenshots posted. A villain, a hero and a victim walked into a bar:

"...and apparently nothing happened. GameSpot has zero, zilch, nada explanation of these screenshots. Was it late? Perhaps the guy who posted the shots doesn't know what they are shots of? Perhaps they are just random shots with no commonality at all? Perhaps they are part if a sinister and tricky viral marketing program?"

Fileshack has a new City of Villains movie for your viewing pleasure. A villain who looked disturbingly like the Rhino is rumoured to have said:

"Three minute long gameplay video from City of Villains, with narration by designer Dave Zebb."

  • Orcs and Goblins and Wizards, oh my!
Turbine has posted a look at the Goblins and Orcs of Lords of the Rings Online. I had a dream last night, in black and white no less, that went something like this:

"Where Tolkien has used both the names 'Goblin' and 'Orc' for the race, we've used the terms in the interest of gameplay to represent different types of Orc-kind. 'Orcs' are larger, brawnier creatures, whereas 'Goblins' are smaller, and the sort that might ambush you in dark caverns underground."

  • Fast Cars and Big Guns.
A new Auto Assault Recon covering Tempernet (survivors of the apocalypse) is up on the Official Auto Assault site. The ground shook and thunder rolled before we noticed something like this written on some ruins:

"In the early days of the Contamination, Human scientists developed a plan to supplement military and police forces with AI-controlled robots, deliberately designed to quell social unrest and keep riots in check. TemperNet facilities were self-sufficient, able to maintain their local units and gather resources when needed. Left behind during Righteous Fire, the TemperNet AI grew and became self-aware, rationalizing the one true way to eliminate social unrest was to eliminate organic life completely. "

  • Desert of Flames - Located Right Next To Las Vegas.
GameSpy has posted a preview of EverQuest 2: Desert of Flames. While wandering in the desert outside of our hotel in Las Vegas we began to see visions which looked almost like this:

"Veterans of the original EverQuest will doubtless appreciate where our demo kicked off: the famous Oasis of Marr. Or what's left of it, anyway, after Luclin, Norrath's moon, careened into it. Many of the area's features remain intact, however, not the least of which is the city of Maj'Dul, which serves as the expansion's focal point. Apparently, in the 500 years since the aforementioned catastrophe, the formerly murderous bandits and dervishes that inhabit the desert got their stuff together enough to found Maj'Dul."

  • A R.O.S.E. by any other name would get more press coverage.
GamerGod dug deep and found a preview of Rush On Seven Episodes Online. While working in our garden we tried to figure out what in the name of Sam Hill Rush of Seven Episodes is supposed to mean. We know it might have something to do with this:

"Much like most online games, the name of the game has some reference to the actual game play. ROSE Online is based on the story of an avatar, which you play, who may or may not have an impact on the game and other players. The choice is completely up to you to choose for good or bad and do what you wish. You may wish to lead an ordinary online life where you go out and train yourself and maybe level up and gather some weapons and items to later sell to other players for a profit. Or you may be drawn to a lust for power and strength which will lead you on a grand quest of conquering and controlling all of the seven planets in the ROSE universe and unlock the ultimate power that can challenge even the mighty power of the gods that created all seven planets."

  • Welcome back Freeman.
Jeff Freeman of Sony Online Entertainment has posted a blog about being a game developer and a parent. We are almost positively sure that the voices in our heads didn't say this:

"But the parents aren't even listening to this debate. Kids still play rated-M games. Somehow they're able to play for hours and hours and hours without their parents knowing about it. And what, the store clerk should have stopped them? (Like, "I can't stop my little children from playing 37 hours a week of Baby-Killer 3, because I don't understand this little letter on the box it came in!").

I get the feeling that a big part of the problem is that the parents do hear the "video game violence is bad" side of the argument, but they don't believe it. They're probably the ones who bought the game to begin with, and they still will.

This isn't all "bad parenting" or confusion over video game ratings. The parents don't believe the accusations, and you can't make them.

And this latest brouhaha over the GTA 'hot coffee' mod is especially funny. How can anyone possibly be worried that their little kiddo is going to download a mod, from the internet, which unlocks in-game sex? Internet. Sex. Download. Your kid's downloading what from the internet? Oh Thank God! It's just the GTA hot coffee mod! *whew*"
