  • Lord British takes the purse away from Tabula Rasa.
MMORPG.com has posted a Tabula Rasa preview featuring insight from Richard "Lord British" Garriott.

" Originally announced some time ago, the game underwent a marked shift just before E3 2005. Richard explained how it began with a rather trivial observation: everyone on the development team exclusively played female characters.
Why was this? Well, they discovered that as the game’s extremely far-fetched high fantasy style evolved, it became harder for male gamers to connect with their male avatars. Thus began a period where they tried to put a little more grit into the game; a process that would eventually completely redefine its setting."

  • You say chronicle. I say interview.
RPGVault has posted a Chronicles of Spellborn interview featuring Marketing Manager Barry Hoffman and Community Manager Corwynn Maelstrom.

" According to the official site, development is currently on track toward beta in the first half of 2006, with a target launch date in mid-year. Given this time frame, the team has begun to build the title's visibility. As a result, we've learned a number of important facts during the past couple of months. For instance, we can see from the available visuals that the art direction is both imaginative and stylish, and it's stated that the graphics will be delivered to our monitors by the Unreal technology. In addition, we can read some intriguing things about the design philosophy, one being that a player's strength in battle is determined by the skill with which a given weapon is used, not its inherent characteristics. Just recently, Marketing Manager Barry Hoffman and Community Manager Corwynn Maelstrom volunteered to tell us more. "

  • Like a lightsabre to the head...
Eurogamer reviews the Star Wars Galaxies: Trials of Obi-Wan expansion. It's a pretty expansion, they say, but ultimately score it 7/10 for, you guessed it, developing $35 worth of content almost exclusively for the level 65 plus game. When someone figures out how to make the high-levellers and low-to-mid-levellers happy at the same time, it'll be huge! Oh, yea...World of Warcraft, gah.

"So it boils down to this: the expansion is aimed squarely at the high-level ground-based combat players, and is a solid addition of content for them. That only this one group of players is catered to fully though only serves to alienate those left behind and devalues the offering overall. "

  • Landing on Irth for the first time.
IGN has some new screenshots from Irth Online, the open-ended fantasy MMO released just yesterday by Magic Hat Software. The game is available by digital download for $29.99, with a $13.99/month subscription fee, and has some pretty easy-to-meet system requirements. If you're looking for a new eclectic MMO to obsess over, Magic Hat promises this isn't just another plain jane persistent-world game.

"The setting is an expansive environment in which a fragile peace exists among three diverse civilizations, the northern Arcadians, swamp-dwelling Morbus and tropical Mezoteks. Key features and elements that seem likely to interest players who prefer open-ended virtual worlds include a free-form storyline and a skill system in which it's said characters can learn any ability without racial or class-based restrictions."

Jolt has posted a preview of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade.

    "

For such a successful game in the genre, the announcement of a
commercial add-on is as surprising as waking up to find that you
haven’t changed into a female Night Elf after all [What!? – Ed], and it’s with an equal level of astonishment that we learn it will contain new lands, dungeons, items, quests and playable races, as well as offer an increased level cap. "

  • In a City of Villains, does that make the police the bad guys? Do they get put in prison?
ActionTrip has posted their review of City of Villains.

    "

City of Villains is essentially a stand-alone expansion to City of
Heroes. It can be purchased and played separately from City of Heroes,
but existing CoH players can buy the CoV box and play a villain without
paying a second subscription fee - a move that was lauded by CoH
players everywhere. With the onset of City of Villains, a host of new
features was added to the game, so let's take a look and see if its all
    worthwhile, shall we?
