  • Transcripts Available

Stratics has posted the transcripts from their House of Commons chat with the devlopers of Lord of the Rings Online.

Sprite - *Crowser* What is your estimated time frame til an open beta will occur?
LOTRO_Patience - We expect to be starting open beta fairly "soon," which of course is a relative term :D

Sprite - *Alkales* : Is Turbine planning on doing anything to make moral unique, rather then just a word substitute for hit points? For example: certain areas like the old forest decrease your moral simply because you're in the area, or perhaps depending on what type foe your facing in combat.

  • Gamespot and Gamespy Weigh In With Their Reports

After what reportedly was a fun filled weekend with the folks at Sigil and SoE, we have two more event reports for you to catch up on.

    Gamespot weighs in first saying...

After a couple of years of being dominated by Blizzard's World of Warcraft, could the massively multiplayer role-playing genre be in for a shakeup? That's the aim of Sony Online Entertainment and Sigil Games with Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, a fantasy-themed RPG where you can live and adventure in an online world populated with elves, humans, dragons, and some unique new races. Vanguard has had an interesting development history, as it was originally going to be published by Microsoft, but then SOE picked it up after Microsoft and Sigil parted ways.

    Next Gamespy tells us...

Wild speculation has swirled around Vanguard: Saga of Heroes almost from the moment it was announced. The game is the brainchild of Brad McQuaid and a handful of original EverQuest developers who founded Sigil Games to work on what McQuaid calls a "real MMO experience." That unapologetic, old-school MMO attitude and the limited information that's been released have raised a lot of questions.

Unknown to the players, the European division flew in Melissa Bianco, she works for Cryptic Studios as a designer and her alias is War Witch. She is one of the big guns from the studio and a celebrity amongst the players. The atmosphere at the event was fun and somewhat hardcore, avid fans of the game huddled around War Witch to express their opinions and have a good chat! After her rounds and introductions we eventually sat down together on a comfortable leather couch and the interview began.

  • A Ringer for Ryzom? Producer Daniel Miller talks about Saga of Ryzom's latest free "extension", the player-empowering "Ring of Ryzom"

We've been covering Nevrax's exciting "Ring of Ryzom" (the free extension to the science fantasy MMORPG Saga of Ryzom which puts design and dungeon master duties squarely in the hands of players for the first time in an MMO) for a while now, and in our latest feature our very own Byron "Messiah" Mudry talks with Ring Producer Daniel Miller in his first post-launch interview. Daniel shares the initial reaction of the Ryzom community to the Ring of Ryzom, and shares some of Nevrax's plans for R2's future.

"Daniel Miller: 'The response of the community has been excellent. The concept of player created content is very strong. We now see a very significant proportion of our players connected to the Ring editor 24 hours a day, so we expect to see an ever increasing quantity of interesting scenarios emerging over the weeks to come.'"

  • Sigil and co-publisher Sony provide the chance to learn how their fantasy online world endeavor is coming along

RPG Vault has posted their report as well today on the media event recently held by Sigil and SOE.

Thestra may be the richest region in the world of Telon, with many of its grandest communities. Among them, some are New Targonor, a lively center of trade where Thestran humans hold sway, Leth Nurae, home of the High Elves, and Bordinar's Cleft, a redoubtable Dwarven stronghold snuggled deep within the central mountains. These are the three continents we'll be able to explore when Sigil Games Online's Vanguard: Saga of Heroes launches within the coming months, the current target being the first quarter of 2007. Leading up to this event, the title is currently in closed beta. Last Friday, the team and co-publisher Sony Online Entertainment invited some members of the press to San Diego to play a bit and to speak with several developers including the project's Co-Executive Producers, Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler. I accepted instantly, of course.

MMORPG.com has posted their report from the press event in San Diego. Find out what they learned from Jeff Butler and Brad McQuaid.

I had an interesting experience this past week, when I flew from Halifax to San Diego to attend an event being hosted by the people at Sigil Games and SOE for the upcoming MMORPG, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

When we arrived at the event, we were treated to a viewing of the game, as we watched the screens as someone controlled the avatars, we listened to Sigil President and Executive Producer Jeff Butler and Sigil CEO and Executive Producer Brad McQuaid as they discussed the game and answered questions from those reporters in the audience.

  • Behind the Scenes with ConCo!

The official site for Priates of the Burning Sea has been updated with another in their series of developer journals. This one takes a look behind the scenes at how they come up with content ideas.

How do we make our content? Our content department has numerous approaches to how the various stories get made and end up in the game. Some of our key story lines come from our writers. Others the individual designers come up with and they take them from concept to completion by bouncing ideas off each other and off other departments.
