  • Bill Cosby need not apply.
GameSpot threw a Q&A at Kijong Kang and Kijong Kang threw it right back, chock full of Huxley information.

"Online role-playing games are easily the rage right now, especially considering that a game like World of Warcraft has more than 6 million subscribers. However, online first-person shooters are an entirely different story. We're not talking about conventional shooters that can be played online with 16, or even 64, players. Rather, we're talking about online shooters that allow thousands of players to interact online and potentially hundreds to battle it out among one another. While there have been a handful of attempts to date to make an online first-person shooter, none have taken off. However, there's a new game on the horizon from South Korea's Webzen that has captured a lot of attention. Huxley is an online first-person shooter that has an unusual name, as well as some amazing visuals, judging from the early screens released thus far. Based on Unreal Engine 3 technology, Huxley looks to meld first-person shooter gameplay with the scale and scope of an online game. For details, we turned to Kijong Kang, the producer in charge of the Huxley team at Webzen."

  • EQ2 TenTonHammer Sits Down with Larry Elmore...

Larry Elmore! If you don't know what Dragonlance is or you've never seen EverQuest cover art, you're going to be clueless. Fear not! We'll explain. Coyote, from our EQ2 - TenTonHammer team, interviews this legendary artist and manages to complete sentences despite being in total awe of him!

I've met a number of “celebrities” or “famous” individuals in my life, and around everyone of them I was proud at my composure and nonchalant manner. With a practiced apathy and casual demeanor, I was the epitome of cool. However, when I met Larry Elmore at the SOE Fan Faire, I have to admit that I was more than a bit “star struck”.

  • Vivendi Universal subsidiary Blizzard Entertainment announced on Friday that it has invited Chinese online game company The9 (Nasdaq: NCTY) to negotiate the expansion set to World of Warcraft (WoW), The Burning Crusade. The9 is Blizzard's current partner for WoW in mainland China, and also owns 30 percent of the company operating WoW in Taiwan. According to the release the expansion is currently planned for 2007 in mainland China, whereas previous expectations had the expansion hitting China in late 2006. According to several industry analysts, The9's contract with Blizzard for World of Warcraft already gives The9 the rights to operate any expansion of the game in mainland China.

I just can't think of any pithy comments on this one. Am I losing my sense of humor or is this just something that says meh to me? One can never tell

  • It's probably safe to say that I really look forward to Deo's Space every week. I know I'm not supposed to play favorites, but I'm really looking forward to Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising. This week is a great post on the Minion AI.

As usual, it has been a busy week for us here in the office, and like always, I'm taking 5 to drop the good word for you all. As we approach E3, my days seem to just blur together with a never-ending pile of "high priority" projects. I swear it seems like I just celebrated Easter with my family just last week, and yet, here it is again! Where do the days go?

Regardless, the time that has gone by has been productive and we will all feel a lot better once E3 has come and gone. Bear with us until that time, because it is important that we not only get through this schedule, but that we utilize all the resources available to us to have a maximum impact on the gaming world. Yes, we have lots of information we're anxious to give out. Yes, you're going to get to see it all. No, I can't post it today!

    Read the rest! Do it!

  • Does anyone else have a B horror movie stuck in their head now? Unfortunately until I get something else in there to replace it I'm getting slithering aliens repeating through my brain paths.

Anyhoo, there's a new job featured on the Official Final Fantasy XI site. We're talking Puppetmasters here.

For years, puppeteers have been entertaining crowds with their skillful manipulation of artfully crafted marionettes.
But with the recent development of the "automaton," a semi-automated puppet without the need for strings, the uses for a puppeteer's talents suddenly expanded to the fields of agriculture, fishing, industry, and even combat. In any era, there is always a need for specialists to master new types of technology. And the puppetmaster has stepped forward--a special breed of puppeteers that customize their automatons with ingenious attachments and use a controller known as an "animator" to transmit commands. Puppetmasters also sometimes find it necessary to protect themselves from advocates of simpler times, and are rarely seen without a pair of sainti--their hand-to-hand weapon of choice.
Let us take a closer look at this fascinating profession...

  • Honestly, I wish that all of the MMORPG companies would do this. It's alot easier to download a game rather than wait for those popular games to be available at your local game store.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to wait a day or two after launch simply because I had to wait for the retail version of the game to be available. It horks me off. Turbine is doing a great thing here by allowing customers to now puchase the game and download from Direct2drive.com This option is only available in North America. However, it's a start.

  • RMT ? For those of you who are getting a slow start this morning (like myself) it means, Real Money Trading. So.. in essence... RMT = Gold Buying / Selling / Secondary Market.

Ok that is as smart as I get for the day. Here are the details.

    Hello,

Today in excess of 150 RMT accounts have been suspended due to breach of the Terms of Service.

We would like you all to think twice before risking your character in such activities, for more details of today’s events please follow this link:

  • I'm normally not a rumor poster. However, this one has me intrigued. I know that Microsoft is pushing quite a few games toward the 360 market. However, knowing the complexity of Funcom games, I wouldn't think that it wouldn't be successfully ported. GameSpot's Rumor Control has the story.

According to the poster, the Funcom developers "showed a trailer with a pretty intense draw distance apparantly [sic] as well as Conan himself wielding a morning star which seemed totally realistic in how the spiked ball would behave due to its weight and momentum." Then, "a question was asked about if they were thinking about other platforms than PC...then the spokesman [Bjorn Sundquist] made a kauf [sic] gesture saying *kauf*Xbox360*kauf*." (Emphasis added.)

Thanks to MMORPGDOT for pointing me in the right direction for this story.

  • TenTonHammer's "First Glimpse" at Auto Assault

Vehicular destruction MMO Auto Assault hit retailers last week, and countless gamers running and gunning their way through a post-apocalyptic earth as you read this. But can "the fastest, most destructive MMORPG ever" live up to the hype?

At least in the low level areas I've been motoring though, Auto Assault has the absolute, dyed-in-the-wool look and feel of a post-apocalyptic game world. Disconnected overpasses, half-collapsed highrises, mutated wildlife and malfunctioning robots run amok, even the rain seems laced with fallout, and if it looks remotely destructible, it is. Sure there's things that don't quite make sense, the brake lights on my lieutenant's Artemis M for one- but if civilization collapsed, I wouldn't draw a bead pulling those fuses (unless it was a matter of survival). But in the Thunderdome-ish attitude of the day, life is cheap and showmanship is at least as important as survival. I could get into this.

Our first impression? 4.8 out of 5 hammers! Why did we give Auto Assault such a high horsepower rating?

Find out here: the TenTonHammer "First Glimpse" Review of Auto Assault.
