  • *faints* *wakes up and reads the article and then faints again*

This is Awen's subconscious mind speaking to you since she is currently unavailable. Just read that Ronald D. Moore will deliver the keynote address of the “vision track” at the 2006 GDC. Now, who is Ronald D. Moore? He's the creator and producer of the new BSG series on Sci Fi. Now why am I in a rapturous state of fainting?

Because I get to go to GDC this year and I get to listen to this brilliant man speak!

  • GI.biz interviewed Blizzard on the Euro login problems

GamesIndustry.biz: Many World of Warcraft players have recently been complaining that they have to wait for long periods of time to get in the game once they've entered their username and password - and that sometimes it's not possible to log in at all. Are these problems still ongoing?

John Lagrave: A lot of the login issues are persisting. They're much less than what they were, but we have been having some incredible concurrency with the game itself, and as such that's put quite a bit of burden on the existing hardware that we have.

Can you explain what you mean by concurrency?

John Lagrave: It's just that suddenly a lot of people showed up - sort of like when you're at a party and suddenly 15 people walk through the door and they all want a drink. It's like, "Well, I'll get that to you, but it's going to take a bit of time," and that's what we've found.

We've been very fortunate in that a large number of people came into the game just recently; we've had good growth throughout the past year, but we had exceptionally high numbers come in over the holidays. Which was wonderful, and we're glad they're all there, but it put some additional stress onto the system and we've had to respond to that.

I understand that there are over five million subscribers. I understand that they expanded so quickly that everyone went into shock. What I don't understand is how they get the cream in the center of the Twinkie. It just boggles my mind.

  • I look for news on this game everyday so I was surprised that whilst browsing MMORPGDOT I came across this one. Gamespy has a Huxley Preview. I'm not sure that I'll actually play the game but I'm interested in seeing it in action now.

t the center of Huxley's struggle are two distinct subspecies of humans-as-we-know-them-today: Sapiens, which are more or less like you and me, and Alternatives, which were more dramatically affected by the Nuclearite shower. They're at war with each other, but also with a wildcard faction known as Hybrids. As of now, we know that Sapiens and Alternatives will be playable races. As for Hybrids, well, all such inquiries to Webzen were met with coy glances, and vague comments. Make of that what you will.

On a side note: I'm thinking that this is the year of the post apocolyptic genre. Not my bag but you can never tell what the future holds.

  • What do you get when you mix a Star Trek Online MMO with news of the Galaxy class Starships? A squealing 12 year old boy. Or a *cough* 31 *cough* girl. A New Developer Blog is up on the official Star Trek Online site. This one revolves around the new starships.

Glen Dahlgren here, Design Director on STO, and it's my pleasure to give you a peek into another aspect of our design process.

Because of our recent press release, you may already be aware that we're working with yet another experienced Star Trek designer: Andrew Probert, the guy who designed the Enterprise D, Next Gen's original Starship. But you're certainly not familiar with the intimate details of HOW he is contributing - and that's what I'd like to discuss.

While we're very excited to have the opportunity to create brand-new ships and technology (and we will be doing so), one of our goals for STO is to bring alive the iconic people, things, and places from Star Trek's shows and movies - that with which you're already very familiar. An obvious target is the Galaxy-class Starship, the anchor of TNG. Who doesn't want to wander those halls, walk around that bridge, or explore the holodeck? And how about visiting some of the places that the show only hinted at, like the Cetacean (dolphin) quarters or the immense double-barreled main computer core?

Enterprise D! *shudders and faints dead away from excitement*

  • So we've started our new Ten Ton Hammers guild on the Sen'jin server. We're up to 36 members now and growing strong. This weekend I finally entered WSG. I've never PVP'd before.. IT WAS SUCH A RUSH! I have this feeling that I'm going to stay at level 19 for the rest of my playtime. I.. am... a.. PVP GOD!

Ok so I'm really not a pvp god. I ran around in circles screaming and flapping my hands when a rogue came up behind and incapacitated me. I have a lot to learn yet. If you have some good pointers for a new PVP'ing hunter send me a mail.

Better yet! Visit us on the Sen'jin server and tell me in person!

  • We had the movies, we had the comic books and now my friends... we have the novels. The Age of Conan Official site has the details

We caught up with Jeff Mariotte, author of the new novel trilogy Age of Conan: Marauders to find out a little about what its like to be working on the Conan license!

Here is what he had to say when we asked what it meant to him to be part of the license team!

Age of Conan is more than just a game—it’s a multi-pronged effort by Conan Properties International and some talented creative partners to expand upon parts of Robert E. Howard’s Hyborian Age that Howard, during his too-brief career, didn’t have a chance to thoroughly explore. To be asked by CPI and Ace Books to become part of that process, by writing the first-ever young adult novels set in the Hyborian world, is an honor and a privilege for a long-time REH fan like me.

I'd say unleash the barbarian in yourself, but if you're going to come out with a really bad accent then eh, don't bother.

  • You cannot go wrong when you have a TNG designer on your side!

As the Senior Illustrator for the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Probert designed new spacecraft ranging from the Ferengi Marauder and the Romulan warbird to the Galaxy-class U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701-D, including both its main and battle bridges. Probert will be working with Perpetual to update the interior layout of the Galaxy-class, creating new deck layouts that realize never-before-seen locations within the massive city-sized starships. Initial blueprints and concept art by Probert are now available at the game's development site with additional material to be released in the coming months.

Set twenty years after the most recent movie, Star Trek: Nemesis, Star Trek Online will be the next step for the Star Trek universe, advancing the timeline and technology into a new era of exploration and discovery. Just as Star Trek: The Next Generation updated the ships and uniforms of the original series, Star Trek Online will bring new uniforms, new equipment, and new starships to Starfleet and its foes.

You can read more about this on the Star Trek Online Official Website. Things are really ramping up for this game and I'm really really stoked!
