  • Looks like this Comic book like game is going into beta. Beta kicks off Feb 1st so make sure you signup now if you want in on this out of the box game.

Aarhus, Denmark – January 9, 2006 – Runestone Game Development announced today that applications are now being accepted for beta testing Seed, the premiere genre-shattering massively multiplayer game slated for release in April 2006, with testing to kick off February 1st.
"We're thrilled about being so near opening Seed to our testers," said Lars Kroll Kristensen, CEO of Runestone Game Development. "This is the first huge step toward launch, and after years of work we're all very excited to begin sharing it with thousands of gamers!"

In Seed, players find themselves on an alien world in the far future as desperate human settlers who must work together to ensure the survival of their colony and the whole human race. By using their intellect rather than their brawn, players alone will decide the fate of the entire colony, set within a highly mutable and interactive world.

Beginning February 1st, the testing phase will ramp up steadily toward launch, growing the population from the pool of beta applicants and ending with a stress test in March, where the community will be encouraged to come by the thousands to give Seed a try.

With groundbreaking gameplay powered by next-generation artificial intelligence poured into a rich, comic-book-style 3D world, Seed truly stands out from the crowd. Learn more about this revolutionary MMG and sign up for the beta test by visiting www.seedthegame.com.

  • OGaming has an interview with Turbine's CEO Jeff Anderson

OGaming: Why the decision to self-publish your own titles?

Jeff Anderson : Before joining Turbine I was the executive in charge of production at Origin/Electronic Arts. At EA, I saw firsthand the strength of the publisher model with Ultima Online. There are terrific creative synergies and economies that come from developing and operating a self-published title. I wanted to bring that experience to Turbine.

What he really wanted to say was "So we could say SCHNEH! to the big boys!

  • Is it odd that I get the "Piano Man" song stuck in my head every time I think of bards or minstrels? Someone reserve a room at the looney bin! Turbine has posted new information on the Minstrel Class for Lord of the Rings Online.

    Minstrel
    Races: Man, Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit

'. . . in the midst of their merriment and tears the clear voice of the minstrel rose like silver and gold, and all men were hushed.'

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, "The Field of Cormallen"

With song and tale, a Minstrel brings hope to places thick with gloom. He can inspire those with desperate minds and heavy hearts to great deeds. In battle, he can turn the tide with songs that strengthen his allies and dirges which strike fear into the hearts of his enemies.

The Minstrel will be the class of choice for players who want to aid their friends, inspiring them to keep going through the darkest of times. With a vast repertoire of tales both fair and foul, a Minstrel restores the morale of his fellows, as well as causing his enemies to despair. Though able to wield weapons, he prefers to let his words, rather than his sword, speak for him. A Minstrel's style of combat is based on maintaining hope no matter what the odds.

  • It looks like Sony is previewing EQ2 - Kingdom of Sky at CES this week. Gamespot has the scoop.

In story terms, Kingdom of Sky will focus on the warriors' of Norrath's battle against the residents of the Overrealm, a mystical and previously undiscovered territory consisting of islands floating high above the land. Players will begin to see in-game clues, such as NPC dialogue, indicating that those reaching a high enough level will be able to erect "teleportation spires" that they can then use to travel to the Overrealm and battle the creatures dwelling there, who intend to enslave and conquer Norrath.

Some of the new beings you'll find in the Overrealm include humanoid races resembling eagles and vultures, as well as a number of rather fearsome dragon bosses. We got to see one particularly fearsome bone dragon dungeon boss that ought to provide some nice loot for fearless adventurers. The islands and architecture of the Overrealm have a classical, Middle Eastern-influenced look to them, as well.

Good to see the Warriors getting some lovin.

  • Holy Pirates Batman! These guys are seriously ramping up their coverage lately. This is definately good news for a game that has been mired in development crap for the last few years. GameCloud has an interview with John Tynes, Lead Designer and Writer for Flying Labs.

Gamecloud - First, we have to ask you how the current beta test is coming along?

John Tynes - At our website you’ll find a new devlog from our QA manager, Misha, on that very topic! We have a couple dozen players in there doing several sessions a week and it’s going very well. They’ve helped us identify some firewall issues we didn’t know about and have been giving us great feedback on gameplay. They’re also having a lot of fun enjoying both missions and PvP battles. It’s a real blast for us, too, to just log in and hang out with some actual players in our game!
