  • Build your destiny in Atriarch, literally.
World Fusion has posted a developer diary discussing the player structures and buildings that will be available in Atriarch.

" When talking about Atriarch, we mention a lot about player structures and buildings. The simple reason is because we think it is really cool the way we've designed it. Okay, okay, I know that is not the most subjective statement in the world, but then again if I did not think what we are making was worthwhile, then I'd do something else. I am a gamer afterall and want to play Atriarch with everyone :-) Anyway, back to player-buildings... mentioned in previous posts, player buildings require the placement of a foundation. Atriarch's engine differentiates between types of foundations. The following paragraph addresses some questions that were posted about this. "

  • We have a scratch in race #4 at the Barrow-downs. Frodo's Fancy will not run today.
Turbine has posted a preview of the Barrow-downs area in Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar.

"Known in the Elvish language as Tyrn Gorthad ("Hills of Tombs"), the Barrow-downs, located east of the Old Forest in the Bree-land region of Eriador, is a place of mystery best avoided by unwary adventurers.  By day, the area seems harmless enough – a quiet region of gently rolling plains and grassy mounds topped by ancient standing stones, marking the final resting place of great warriors from ages past.  But the spells which lay across the Barrow-downs are deceiving, and the mists that roll in as the day wanes can disorient and entrap even the bravest souls, turning the once-pleasant hills into dark shapes crowned with sharp teeth of stone.  In the dreadful gloom, evil spirits from Angmar dwell amongst the standing stones and within the burial mounds, inhabiting the bodies of the long-dead warriors and raising them as terrifying Wights driven to collect the living and bring them forever into this land of the dead. • Welcome to the Desert of Flames. You can now kill other players. Please enjoy your stay.
GameSpy has posted a review of EverQuest 2: Desert of Flames giving the game a thumbs up. Huzzah to Sony Online Entertainment for a job well done.

" SOE has been pretty aggressive about updating EverQuest II (not to mention meticulously listing every such update to its playerbase). As such, it shouldn't come as a surprise to see a full-fledged expansion to the game so relatively soon after its release less than one year ago. Desert of Flames is the first retail expansion to SOE's flagship MMO, and in many ways, it matches the scope of some of the original EQ's most memorable ex-packs. On top of a plethora of game-system overhauls, the game adds a significant amount of new content -- enough so that it warranted an increase to the character level cap, from 50 to 60. "

  • Reviewing them before release.
Via time machine, the folks at Rewired Mind have reviewed City of Villains, which is due to be released on October 31st. An entire city of villains, in Canada we call those prisons.

"Ever wondered what it would be like to be the bad guy in a
game for once? To hatch evil schemes and to generally run amuck? Well- now you
can! The City of Villains beta servers have switched to full-time availability, which can only mean one thing – it’s finally here. Now that the NDA has been lifted I can tell you why this expanshalone (™) should be on your "must play" list. "

  • At look ahead, at villains and the city they call home.
GameSpy has posted a preview of City of Villains taking a look at character creation and the gameplay as it stands pre-release. The game should be in a store near you starting on Halloween. Dress up as your favourite villain and head down the mall to get a copy. I might leave the bellaclava at home though.

" When I was a kid, my Dad and I would spend hours discussing our favorite sci-fi movies, old episodes of Star Trek, or the intricate nuances of comic books. It was during one of those conversations that I noticed something odd. For all the time we spent discussing Batman, or Luke Skywalker or Captain Kirk, we spent much more time discussing the Joker, Darth Vader, or picking apart the political structures of the Romulan Empire (OK, my Dad's a geek, too). When I asked him why we seemed to gravitate toward the villains far more than the heroes of these stories, I remember his answer as if it were yesterday:

    "Villains are more fun.""

  • Shocking new footage...

Not really shocking, but it is relatively new. The Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach official site boasts a new video section and several new screenshots. More pictures means less words, apparently, so this is all the description I could find:

In our continued efforts to expand our new website we added a video section today! We also added some more screenshots to our screenshot archive!

I guess you'll just have to see for yourself! The new video and screenshots section at the Dungeons and Dragons Online Official Site.

  • Another Lap Each From Three Regular Auto Assault Official Site Features (Thanks Maya!)

Every week, the Net Devil team posts releases neat blueprint-style deskpaper introducing one new vehicle from each of the three races.

Blueprints of the Apocalypse: Human Daedalus, Mutant Cicada MV-8, and the Biomek Activar MAV-42. More wallpaper goodness.

Another regular feature is "Recon," which is a detailed look at the lore behind a certain game location.

Recon: Human city of Upside. Also known as "Ascension," this is where the humans returned to the surface and remains a multi-purpose stronghold.

And, since it's not too late to ask for /pizza, NetDevil wants to know what you'd like to do in-game after you've driven back to a city and cleaned your 105mm howitzer for the day.

Weigh-in Wednesday Forum Poll: "What kind of non-combat gameplay would you like to see in Auto Assault?" Your opinion is wanted!

  • Bill Roper takes GameSpy to the gates of Hell. Too many jokes to pick just one folks.
GameSpy has posted a Hellgate: London preview focusing on a demonstration given by Bill Roper of Flagship studios. We contacted Mr. Roper of Three's Company, but he had never heard of the game and was searching for a "gay guy". We did get this out of him:

"For the purposes of the demo, Roper controlled a Templar character. The only class in Hellgate that's been thus far revealed, Templars seem like they're going to be well suited to mixing it up with creatures up close. Throughout the demo, Roper's newly-minted female Templar (the fair sex had just gotten its version of the class modeled, incidentally) wielded a wide variety of weapons, both melee and ranged, which gave us a pretty clear idea as to how combat would work in the final game. • Nissans and tactical nukes!

New fansite Gamer's Addiction jots down their first impressions on the vehicular shoot-'em-up MMO we know as Auto Assault. If you ever wanted to be Steve McQueen in that Bullitt monumental car chase scene (with some additional devious weaponry, of course), you'll want to pick up this game next spring, basically. Yea, I agree with GA, it's a man's game, as long as you're not prone to carsickness or vertigo!

Now, MY personal favorite part of the game (aside from the death, destruction and other chaos) is the MUSIC! WOW! The sound engine in the game is PHENOMENAL! It really puts you in the drivers seat and makes you feel like you're there. And to top it off, the background music is great driving music - definitely something to destroy the world to!

Overall, in my opinion, Auto Assault has hit the world square on the nose. You get destruction, interaction, cool music, hot chicks in little clothing, and Great cars that shoot guns. What more could a guy ask for? I mean, come on! I doubt they'll start delivering beer door to door during the game.....or will they?

  • Camelot Hydro stocks gain ground.
MMOGInfo has posted a preview of Dark Age of Camelot: Darkness Rising. It's a rough read, that caused my head to A-Splode, but worth the look if you want more DAoC info. We felt compelled to contact a Speak and Spell toy, but all we could get was this:

" The shades are growing and becoming stronger in the world of Camelot, and in case it was not enough with the eternal war between the kingdoms of Albion, Hibernia and Midgard, now a new threat has arisen within each one from the kingdoms and threatens to destroying them without concerning its external conflicts. The moment has arrived for call the champions of each kingdom so that they unite their forces and avoid that the evil destroy its lives... "
