  • ABC News, "World of Warcraft is the new golf."
I read it on the Interweb, so it must be true. ABC News as part of their PC Magazine section has posted an article on WoW becoming a channel to meet and network with business contacts.

"Overheard at brunch: two tech entrepreneur types discussing World of Warcraft. "What server are you on? What guild? Yeah, me too. It's a good way to schmooze." Is that true? Has logging on to the world's most popular massively multiplayer online game replaced a few rounds on the links as the way to make the right business connections in our tech-driven culture?"

  • Episodic gaming, season 2 is now available on DVD.
There is an excellent article at Guardian Unlimited that takes a well-rounded look at episodic gaming. Shane Dabiri of Blizzard Entertainment voiced his opinion on the subject.

"So, episodic gaming looks set to significantly shake up the games industry. But will it breed the never-ending game? Even though he is a key man behind the world's leading massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, Shane Dabiri isn't convinced: "Some massively multiplayer games have persisted for many years - many people are still playing StarCraft, a real-time strategy game we released in 1998. As for how long an episodic or regularly updated game could maintain an audience's interest, I suspect it's for as long as the game experience continues to provide value to the player.""

  • 1up.com has a base construction strategy guide for one of our favorite games - City of Villains.

If you wish to raid your enemies, you must prepare your own defenses. Resist here the temptation to demonstrate to the world the full reach of your power, and only construct those rooms that are actually necessary to your plans. You will need, of course, at least 6 chambers, other than the entry room and the actual vault, where you will be storing that Item of Power you have your eyes fixated upon, because you must have exactly six dimensional anchors to secure your prize.

  • RF Online gets a physical, courtesy of Boomtown.
Iain Lowson of Boomtown took time away from stroking his cat to review RF Online.

"Doc, the cat in question, likes me playing RF Online because she gets to sit on my lap and get stroked. This is because I have nothing better to do than stroke the cat when playing RF Online – the only game I’ve ever played where I died regularly because I kept forgetting I was playing. "

  • MTV discovers another non-music channel.
Stephen Totilo of MTV.com has delved deep into the music archives to write an article about weather in World of Warcraft.

"Kaplan said Blizzard's weather team — game designers accustomed to being the godlike architects of the worlds they create — talked about a system that would have them decreeing the weather day by day, but opted to set up a program and leave the weather patterns to computerized number-crunching. "If we were to sort of handpick the weather for each day, we would probably do it in such a way that you wouldn't notice that someone was handpicking it, in which case it's like, 'Why go through that trouble in the first place?' " Kaplan said."

  • Dusktreaders has new lore!

“We were sailing from Treffaren to bring goods north to Kellathin. At night we had dropped anchor to prevent running ashore in the fog. I think half the crew was dead before we knew the pirates were even on board. With black powder in the hold, I knew I had to jump overboard when the fire started. Really, the black powder saved me.”

It's a good story so while you're waiting for the WoW servers to come up, go check it out!
