  • It's a famous landmark and now you get to see it through the eyes of the Turbine crew. See the Brandywine Bridge here. and read the lore behind it.

The Bridge of Stonebows, as the Brandywine Bridge was once called, was built originally by the Men of Arnor as a causeway across the Barandúin River on the Great East Road. When the founders of the Shire were granted their land by the king of Arthedain, the price was simple: to maintain and care for the Bridge so that travel into the West would never be impeded. The Hobbits of the Shire performed their duty, even long after the North-kingdom failed, and maintained the great stone bridge, denying none passage, Man, Elf, or Dwarf. Though the river's name was changed to the Brandywine and the bridge itself became the Brandywine Bridge, the Hobbits of the Shire continue to care for and keep watch on the Bridge.

  • His name is Brandon Walker he's the new guy. He's got a new Devlog on the official site.

Since I've started here I've been fortunate enough to work on some cool projects. One of the first was to add flags to the ships. I was excited to add flags because they add some character to the ships AND more importantly they show what the current wind direction is (which is very important when in the middle of a battle). Originally, I thought this was going to be a trivial task that would only have minor implications in the game. I soon discovered this was not the case. Everytime I thought I had the flags working perfectly I discovered I had forgotten something: flags not falling with the masts, main mast flag not matching player nationality, flag scale not appropriate on all ships, etc. Most of the bugs are fixed now, but I'll be doing small tweaks here and there over the next couple of weeks. I also look forward to setting up a content import system that will let the community import new flag patterns into the game. I'm excited to see what people come up with.

  • What would have made this perfect is if they had two animated heads in jars doing these news reports in a sports cast style. I have visions of Futurama floating in my head.

We have brought on about half a dozen freelance "game reporters" to help cover Guild Wars from the viewpoint of competitive play. The first two of their articles describe matches that took place during last weekend's Guild Wars Factions Championship Seasonal Playoffs. Catch the battle reports linked from this page.

  • You've read the interview that I did with Stieg. Now, you can read a few more questions that have been answered in Deo's Space on the official Forums.

    2. Grappling and other collision effects in the movies are awesome, but usually these effects (in other games) are achieved at the expense of using "Barbie doll" character models that have very similar, if not exact, morphology. To what extent, if any, can players change the shape of their character's bodies in character creation? How extensive is character creation overall?

There are tradeoffs to a system like this it is true, but we’ve done our very best to minimize them. We actually allow a great deal of options for body types, not only as presets, but we also allow different areas of the body to be scaled larger or smaller. Our character creation will allow similar facial customization, right down to the size and shape of the nose!

  • Charlie Goes High-Tech

People's Daily Online reports that Vietnam will aggressively develop up video games, including more than a handful of localized MMORPGs in the coming years. If they can do it, market share shouldn't be a problem. Everyone knows you'd best avoid an economic war in southeast Asia.

"We hope that each of the 83 companies has at least one game widely circulated in the domestic market. If this is achieved, they can make combined game revenues of 83 million U.S. dollars in 2010," said Truong Hoai Trang, vice chairman of the Vietnam Software Association (Vinasa).
