  • Stargate Worlds: Looking into the Wormhole

GamersInfo.net has a new blog entry by Ophelea who takes a look at some of the decisions being made for this upcoming game.

Originally, this article was to be a preview of Stargate Worlds after the Game Developer's Conference. I was holding off because I wanted to place it along with a review of Sony’s Stargate Online: The Trading Card Game and Skyzone Mobile’s title, Stargate SG-1: Entropy. I thought they’d make a nice trilogy for the day. After returning home, pouring over my notes, following up with Cheyenne, playing the other games I realized – I can’t actually preview something I haven’t seen! Ok, that’s a new rule here at GamersInfo.

  • Stargate Worlds licenses SpeedTree

The official site for Stargate Worlds has been updated with a note that Colin McLaughlin, director of technology, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, recently spoke about licensing SpeedTree for use in Stargate Worlds at Gamasutra.com.

Interactive Data Visualization, developers of foliage middleware solution SpeedTree, announced that its company's product has been licensed by six different game developers for titles to be released later in 2007 and into 2008.

“SpeedTree is one of the few tools available that not only performs as advertised, it goes beyond the user’s expectations,” said Colin McLaughlin, director of technology, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment. “The textures, shadowing and tree cluster options give us unprecedented control over the appearance of foliage in Stargate Worlds.”

  • Get to Know Jake Johnson

The official site for Stargate Worlds has a new Developer Bio linked today. This time we get to know Jake Johnson, one of the artists working on this upcoming game.

I have always loved to draw and create from my imagination. Expressing my thoughts into art is how I communicated my feelings toward life, and others. I found my self loving comic books, not really for the stories or the super heroes, but for the art style. I loved looking at Superman comics and trying to draw the characters on my own. I really didn’t know how to construct a character from scratch, so I would always trace the pages, taping the book on a window and using the light passing through as a light table.

  • Looks like Big World isn't so big after all. In this press release that we got today, Cheyenne Mountain, the developers of our highly anticipated Stargate Worlds, announced that they are indeed going with Epic's Unreal 3 engine. Here's the scoop.

    Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment Licenses
Epic’s Unreal® Engine 3 Technology for Stargate Worlds Games

MESA, Ariz., August 28th , 2006 — Game developer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (CME), and Epic Games today announced a license agreement in which CME will use Epic’s Unreal® Engine 3 technology for the development of the upcoming, highly anticipated Stargate Worlds and future multi-platform games.
Based on the popular science fiction television series “Stargate: SG-1” and “Stargate Atlantis,” Stargate Worlds is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) which is scheduled to launch in late 2007.
“The combination of a robust graphics environment with extensible development tools allows us to deliver ground-breaking game content for Stargate Worlds commensurate with the quality of the #1 rated sci-fi franchise and future multi-platform games,” said Joe Ybarra, vice president of product development for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment. “Our development team is very excited about using the Unreal Engine 3.”
“MGM is committed to finding ways to extend the Stargate franchise and this is a logical step,” said Travis Rutherford, executive vice president, MGM Consumer Products and Location Based Entertainment. “Stargate Worlds will be the premier Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) developed by CME. Combining Unreal Engine 3 technology with Big World’s™ client server technology ensures an exceptional MMO experience for Stargate fans and gamers on a global basis. Furthermore, these partnerships will maximize CME’s resources and efforts, allowing the developer to create the most fantastic worlds, the best characters and the most compelling game play possible.”
“Combining these technologies (Unreal® Engine 3 and Big World™) provides Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment the strategic advantage to deliver highly anticipated, top quality games where the focus is on making great gameplay and immersive worlds,” added Tim Jenson, chief executive officer of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment.
“We have a lot of Stargate fans around our company, so we’re thrilled to see that Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment is creating a massive multi-player game based on Stargate,” said Mark Rein, vice president, Epic Games Inc. “To have that MMO created using Unreal® Engine 3 extends the excitement even further for us.”
“BigWorld looks forward to working with Epic and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment to enable the exciting goals of Stargate Worlds. Our highly available secure server architecture is the perfect companion to the Unreal 3 client engine.” said Gavin Longhurst, director of business development for BigWorld.
Officially licensed by MGM Interactive, Stargate Worlds is being developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment.

  • Who Is Rollin Hafner?

The official site for Stargate Worlds has been updated with another developer profile. This time we get to learn about Rollin Hafner.

The Allegorical Autobiography of Rollin Hafner

Once upon a time there was a young man; tall and lean with the hair of a 14th century painting. He was unique in all the world, for although nature has a sense of humor, it seldom repeats a joke. This man was a llama tamer and hedgehog philosopher, the sort of man that made his imaginary friends worry about his mental state and occasionally have interventions with him. He liked wild things, like thunderstorms and birdsongs and he knew many of the clouds by their nicknames.

Keep reading to learn more about Rollin Hafner. Are you looking forward to playing Stargate Worlds? Let us know about it in the forums here at Ten Ton Hammer.
