  • Gateworld Sounds Off About Stargate Worlds

Props to Cheyenne Mountain for engaging not only MMO players with 2008 MMO Stargate Worlds, but gaming benighted die-hard fans of the television series who probably think WASD is a futuristic military acronym (which is cool, I don't really understand arcane Stargate lore- like how Teal'C escaped the whole Go'auld symbiote thing and lived... /shrug).

Evidence of this healthy union - to my memory, fairly unique during the production of licensed games - comes from Stargate fansite Gateworld in a recent article about Stargate Worlds.

The premise and backstory of the game will encompass all the elements so loved by fans. The characters, planets, and races should all be the same, with a few new additions. Players might get to meet the Furlings, among others. The humor brought in by Richard Dean Anderson (Jack O'Neill) and the writers will be continued, keeping the feel of the show for the fans. Currently negotiations continue for the actors to do the voices of their characters.

  • Chris Klug, Stargate Worlds' creative director, is in the spotlight. This time, Warcry has had the pleasure of interviewing him.

I recently sat down with Chris Klug and Sara Baker of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (CME) to discuss their new MMO, “Stargate Worlds”. For those who aren't familiar with the series, Stargate is—in a nutshell—a world in which humans have found a strange alien device (called a Stargate) capable of transporting us to the distant reaches of the galaxy. After finding this device, we set up a special organization called Stargate Command to make use of it and see what's 'out there'. While exploring, we humans run into a hostile alien race called the Goa'ould, as well as other strange (and often-times dangerous) races and technologies. Being the meddlesome creatures that we are, humanity is pulled into the center of galactic struggles and must secure technologies to defend itself from threats as well as strike out to form alliances and make friends. It's epic, it's heroic, and it's the perfect backdrop for an action-packed sci-fi MMO that can impress and move. At present, Stargate Worlds is still in its early design, but after a lengthy conversation with our interviewees, we came away with about as detailed a look at the early game as we could have hoped for.

You can find the article at Warcry.

  • More information on our most anticipated MMO here at Ten Ton Hammer. This time german fansite SWB interviews senior producer, Dan Ellgren.

SWB: Hi Dan thanks for your time !

    DAN: Pleasure.

SWB: Do you know at this time when the publication date is?

DAN: We are still in the pre-production phase of the project so it is too soon at this point to narrow down a specific publication date.

SWB: Will the character use a DHD (Dial home Device)?

DAN: Of course, yet how that is interfaced with the player is still going through iteration.

SWB: Will we meet characters from the series like O'Neill, Carter or Daniel?

DAN: It is a little early to say how or if these main characters will be in the storyline.

SWB: Will there be a storyline?

The english translation can be found here.

  • Before you get excited .. it's not with us. However, you still get new information on Stargate Worlds so don't be so blue! You can find the interview here.

OGaming: Stargate SG-1 is now the longest running Sci-Fi television series in history - it has more than ten seasons plus a successful spin-off series. There's no question you have a lot of universe to build a game around, but what material have you decided to include and exclude thus far into the development process?

David "Zeb" Cook: Since we are still quite early in the process, there are a lot of unknowns, so getting specific is pretty tough to do. Most of our effort right now is in hammering down just what will make sure the game is Stargate SG-1 - how can we capture the tone of the writing, tell stories that feel right for the world, and give players roles that are Stargate-ish. That's far more important at this stage - the answers to those questions will guide us to the content from the series that best makes the game.

  • We have for your reading pleasure, the Editors Edition Chris Klug Interivew.

I had the pleasure of listening to the audio interview recorded at the Game Developers Conferece this year between Chris Klug, Creative Director at Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and our very own Nicole Hamlett and Jeff Woleslagle .

It is quite possibly one of the most interesting interviews I have had the good fortune to listen to and that says something. Our original article on the interview can be found right here. I've been in the gaming industry for 12 years. Believe me when I tell you that not every game designer is meant to give interviews. Chris Klug on the other hand, could keep you hanging on every word.

  • Here's a good way to start the day! Gamecloud has an interview with CME's Chris Klug What are they talking about? Duh! Stargate Worlds!

Gamecloud - First, why did the development team decided to pick a licenced property like Stargate for their first game, rather than develop an original IP for their MMORPG?

Chris Klug - The founders are big fans of Stargate and also it takes less time to develop a game based on a license than a game based on original IP. And you have to make sure that the new IP is any good. Stargate also gives us credibility.
