Stargate Worlds + World of Warcraft

  • Get To Know Nick LaMartina, Sound Designer For Stargate Worlds

The official site for Stargate Worlds has been updated with another in their series of Development Team Profiles. This time we get to go into the world of sound with Nick LaMartina.

My love of games started at the early age of 2, when my dad took my brother and me into his work to play a game called “Lunar Lander”. It was my first exposure to gaming, and not long after, our dad gave us a Commodore 64 to share when we were 3. Our earliest experiences were filled with the likes of Ducks Ahoy, Congo Bongo, JumpMan, Pole Position, and Parallax. It was at that point that we both also found a love of video game music from the masters like Chris Huelsbeck, Martin Galway, and Rob Hubbard.

  • The Burning Crusade Preview: Shattrath City

We've gone and braved the perilous Outland to provide you with another preview of the upcoming expansion. We traveled to the major hub of Outland to bring you an in-depth history of the city along with tons of screenshots and our first impressions of this grand city. So come join us as we take a look at the beauty and wonder of this city and its unique culture.

"Both the Alliance and Horde are welcome within the city and can freely move around any area and interact with each other through normal racial relations. The only limitation is that there is no violence within the city. It's flagged as a city of sanctuary and as such combat can not take place."

  • WoW CM Messiah talks Burning Crusade balance...

And this time, he's through playing Mister Nice Savior:

Today I am going to firmly plant my feet on what many would call the
wrong side of the fence. I consider it “the other side” of the fence. I
am doing this for no other reason than I like being a devil’s advocate.
If you disagree with me fine, that’s OK, all I ask is you read this and
    think about the points.

With that I am going into rant mode on the topic of fair and balance
rewards in the World of Warcraft and the Burning Crusade...

It's that independent, slightly crotchety take we've come to know and love from Byron "Messiah" Mudry in this Burning Crusade Beta Journal at Byron's blog: Messiah's Digital Haven.

  • More insights from beyond the Dark Portal...

Amber "Aurael" Weldon has graced us with her first impressions of the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade beta. Included is her take of a surprise encounter at the Dark Portal, plus a fresh new look at the homeland of the Blood Elves, which are (as you probably know) the most conspicuous of the two new WoW races:

The buildings and landscaping are a clear reflection of a society which oozes magic. Brooms sweep up on their own; mops dip themselves into buckets and wring themselves out before mopping the floors. Alchemy jars hang suspended in the air over floating blue flames. Cats prowl around the inside and outside of buildings. The blood elves' taste in decorating exhibits an almost careless blend of luxury and convenience.

Like luxury? Enjoy convenience? Right-o. |Click here| to sample Aurael's first beta journal, Buffy.

  • Ten Ton Hammer's First Look at "The Burning Crusade" - Eversong Woods

The Blood Elves, perhaps the most anticipated new race of WoW's January 2007 "The Burning Crusade" retail expansion, make their home in an idyllic region known as Eversong Woods, and today Ten Ton Hammer has its first look at this enchanted land. Take a tour of Eversong Woods and Silvermoon City, immerse yourself in the lore and attention to storyline detail, and maybe even learn a few things you can apply when TBC launches this winter!

"Eversong Woods wraps around one of the better known locations of Warcraft lore - the location of the ancient city of Quel'Thalas, or "Silvermoon City" as it's known today. Silvermoon City and environs are where the remnant of elves stranded on the continent of Lordaeron have made their stand against the forces of the Scourge. However, the Eversong Woods of today will strike you as an island of grandeur in an expansive wasteland rather than a province under siege, owing to the power of the "Burning Crystals" and the protection of large magical runestones which keep the blight of the Scourge at bay."

  • Burning Crusades Hands-On Preview

ProG has joined the host of sites getting a chance to preview the upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft. Nightfall has been a hot topic of late. Keep reading to see what their impressions are.

It's probably the most anticipated expansion in videogame history.

The problem for WoW fanboys like me who have been dipping their virtual toes (or, if you're a Tauren, hoofs) into the beta for the last couple of weeks is that there's absolutely masses of new stuff to wade through, and it's almost impossible to be objective about it.

Read the rest of the preview and then share your thoughts with us in the Ten Ton Hammer Forums. You can find out more about WoW and the Burning Crusades at our WoW Ten Ton Hammer Community site.

  • Xerin's Beta Journal #1: Magic Portals

Come follow the adventures of Xerin in "The Burning Crusade". Join along as Xerin takes you through his journey in stepping through the Dark Portal and exploring the new world known as Outland!

"In wrapping my adventure up, I wanted to do one last epic thing. That was break the siege on the Dark Portal. I mean, according to this guy the MMORPG story should be about yourself right? So, I mounted on my horse and rode towards the back of the siege on the Dark Portal. I jumped off my horse and pulled my sword out and charged the Pit Boss who was ordering the minions around.

Then I saw the "Do you want to release?" screen. I guess I'm not too much of a hero yet!"
