Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning + Age of Conan: Unchained + World of Warcraft + Stargate Worlds Features, Guides, and more

  • It's always interesting to get into the minds of developers, especially for all the voyeurs out there! The Pre Production Process by Dustin Bales is no exception. He's the content director for Mythic's Warhammer Online.

Ten thousand pages. That's my best guess at the amount of finalized documentation that our content team will produce before the launch of WAR. We should start an office pool, or a printing press. Ten thousand pages for a game based on an existing property rich with detail. I can only imagine the number of pages we'd be writing if we were coming up with a world of our own!

It's a good read full of little interesting tidbits.

  • Funcom successfully listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange

Oslo, Norway – December 14, 2005 – Funcom, Europe’s largest developer of subscription-based Massively Multiplayer Online games (MMOs), has successfully listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange (OSE). Gaute Godager, one of the founders of Funcom and Game Director on the forthcoming “Age of Conan” Online Action RPG, had the honour of ringing the bell to mark the official start of the trading. The ticker for the company has been set as FUNCOM.

“This is an historical step for Funcom, and marks a new era for the company” said Torleif Ahlsand, Chairman of the Board of Directors in Funcom. “The stock exchange listing not only allows Funcom to release more titles, it enables the company to pursue its growth strategy.”

”The fact that we have been able to secure close to 30 million USD with the listing means that we can further improve the quality on all aspects of our forthcoming online games” said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. “We are naturally thrilled about this recognition. The games market is set to further expand its growth, and with the listing Funcom can continue to deliver the needed quality to take part in this evolution.”

  • WoW: The Burning Crusade At CVG
Are they on fire or something?
    CVG
got a chance to drill the mind of Shane Dabiri about the upcoming expansion
    for World of Warcraft.
Who is Shane Dabiri? Find out:

What are you currently working on at the moment in the expansion?
Shane Dabiri: As lead producer on the World of Warcraft team, I'm currently
undertaking the exciting task of dividing and focusing our resources on the
development of both the expansion set and on the continuing content development
for the current game. This should help us streamline our efforts for 2006.
What percentage of the content is geared toward players of all levels, and
what percentage to only level 60 (and above with the level cap increase) characters?
Shane Dabiri: As is traditional with MMO expansions, a large portion of the
content will be geared toward characters in the range between the current
maximum and new maximum levels, starting at around level 55. However, we do
also plan to add content to better tie in the new races to the world, so players
who choose to start as one of the new races will experience a great deal of
new content up to about level 20.

  • Paying $15 a month not to play a game.
TGDaily has chatted with a World of Warcraft bot programmer. You too, can pay not to play a game.

" Mercury told us that the primary purpose of WoWglider is to allow busy people to "level up" their characters. When he first started playing WoW, Mercury felt left behind because his friends were already at level 60 and he had little time to catch up. "I also wanted to get to 60 to come along on the instance runs, but I had no time to grind it out between work and social life." Many areas of the game are only available to higher level characters, so Mercury wrote WoWglider to accelerate his game. "
