Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning + Age of Conan: Unchained + World of Warcraft + Stargate Worlds Features

  • It's late night, with Age of Conan.
MMORPG has posted an Age of Conan interview featuring Game Director, Gaute Godager. Conan O'Brien would not reply to numerous questions, but we did hear him say this:

    "
In the second part of a two part interview, Gaute Godager takes over
the answers. In this article he discusses rogues, crafting and
reassures players that the first twenty levels - meant to be single
player - do not carry a subscription fee."

  • Slash and burn.
Slashdot asked its viewers to submit their pointed questions for World of Warcraft. You can pick the questions, but unfortunately you can't pick your answers (or who answers your questions on the other side of the internet at times). Suffice it to say, CmdrTaco was none too pleased with Blizzard's response:

" A little over a month ago we asked you for your questions to send on to the World of Warcraft development team. Unfortunately, it appears that these questions were misrouted to the Blizzard PR department. Any "Answers" you read here are completely devoid of real information or insight, and instead read like press releases and FAQ-style form replies. As I am a huge fan of this game, I was really disappointed by this. We promised to print their answers, so here they are. "

The World of Warcraft Qs and As, mostly on the order of "what do i do with my uber level 60 if I don't like raids?", are found on Slashdot.

  • 4 million subscribers just can't be all wrong...
Shawn Carnes, Blizzard Game Developer, speaks to subscriber retention and sheds light on Blizzard's vision for World of Warcraft. Apparently, the new trend is toward MMOG localization rather than content expansion. But can WoW continue to please its current 9-monthers without an expansion for another whole year while adapting the game for the Koreans? After all, a year in gamer years is like a century. Also, will Korea have a new race modeled after Vin Diesel?

"Grimwell: With WoW as a clear success, an expansion is a no-brainer to follow up on the success. What are the plans for this?

Shawn: An expansion is planned, not in 2005, possibly in late 2006 barring unforeseen chaos. Work is already going on for the expansion, and it's going good. What to look for? Blizzard is good at polishing what we do well. The WoW expansion will be like other game expansions in that there will be new characters, items, spells, etc. but it will have the Blizzard twist. "

  • Orcs with rocket launcers!

Excitement's growing ever since Mythic wrested the online remake of the long-famed tabletop gamer's delight Warhammer from cancellation at the hands of Climax. Since the game is still deep in the conceptual phase, producer Lande Robertson could only chat on the pre-production basics:

CGW: Which Warhammer license will you be using--the 40K universe or classic Warhammer?

Robertson: This MMORPG title will be based on all Games Workshop products relating to the classic Warhammer fantasy world. The creative people at Games Workshop have produced a wealth of great material, and this provides us with a solid foundation for the game. The depth of cool background information, the inspired designs of the races and their weapons of war, and the interesting dynamics of the warring factions make this property a pleasure to work on.

  • WoW is Wow.
CVG has posted a World of Warcraft interview featuring Shane Dabiri and discussing the "WoW Factor". Tom Cruise confused WoW for War of the Worlds and demanded his own interview. When asked about his relationship with Katie Holmes he replied:

"Last evening we caught our pet cat playing World of Warcraft. As the most evil character in the game - Night Elf Rogue - he was fairing okay at level five although was getting a little confused when we kept telling him we'd assigned auto-run to the pause key (they're ALL paws keys to a cat see - geddit?). But it's testament to the massive, wide-spread penetration (yes, in our increasing effort to get slightly more risqué, we actually said 'PENETRATION') that Blizzard's MMORPG has achieved, with player numbers rocketing into the stratosphere. "

  • The Arathi Basin Makes Handwashing Fun.
Blizzard has posted a preview page covering the upcoming Arathi Basin Battleground instance. Crop circles in Russian wheat fields spelled out the following message:

" Arathi Basin, located in Arathi Valley, is a fast and exciting Battleground. The Basin itself is rich with resources and coveted by both the Horde and the Alliance. The Forsaken Defilers and the League of Arathor have arrived at Arathi Basin to wage war over these natural resources and claim them on behalf of their respective sides. "

  • Massively multiplayer online barbarian playing game.
RPGVault has posted an Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures interview with Game Director, Gaute Godager of Funcom. After listening intently to the lamentations of the women they also listened to Gaute and wrote something suspiciously like this:

"Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures is Funcom's contribution to a revival of the property that includes both a movie and an animated film along with new novels, a comic series, collectible toys and more. Described as an online action RPG, its aim is to bring together a story-driven single-player experience and a massively multiplayer end game, both capturing the classic swords and sorcery feeling as well as the lush, dark, brutally violent and not always politically correct nature of the franchise. The titular hero's grip on the Aquilonian throne has become tenuous, with ancient evils threatening to throw the realm into chaos. The time is ripe for those with the strength and will to carve out their own destinies. As for our fate, we were favored by fortune in finding Game Director Gaute Godager willing to answer our questions."

WorldofWar.net has an interview with the Blizzard development and it's all about, you guessed it, World of Warcraft. They may have written this:

"Are there any plans at Blizzard to create more individual avatar styles than there are available now?  Could changes like new hairstyles, tattoos, scarring or equipment dye be worked into the current art and code?"
