Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning + Anonymous Interviews

  • Erik Mogensen and Jon Gillard from Games Workshop talk about EA Mythic's Warhammer Online as well as the newly announced Warhammer 40K MMORPG.

MMORPG.com had a chance to sit down with the folks from Games Workshop at GDC. Keep reading to see what they were able to learn.

GW and Vigil hope to make sure every element of the Warhammer 40,000 universe is somehow represented in the game. As many know, this is not an easy task. Obviously some tough choices have to be made in regards to playable races, game interface, setting, and format (first person shooter, or third person RPG style). Both companies seem to have their sights in the right place as far as delivering the best MMO possible.

  • The age of reason fails. Time for war

Games Radar had a chance to sit down with Mythic Creative Director Paul Barnett.

Mythic Creative Director Paul Barnett likes to talk. And not just about his online RPG. "A game guide is actually there to corrupt your enjoyment of the game. It tells you the most efficient, straightforward and dull way to increase your numbers, and in no way tells you the wonder and joy of the game you're playing. And for most games, the wonder and joy is in getting there. In fact, in most of life, the joy is in getting to something."

  • Warhammer Online Update

WarCry.com posted this interview with Assistant Producer Josh Drescher. Don't miss out on a thing, keep reading to see what they were able to learn.

WarCry Network:: Each race you chose for Warhammer (Dark Elves, High Elves, Greenskins, Dwarfs, Empire and Chaos) carries a distinct flavor. What types of players do you think each one will appeal to?

Josh Drescher: Smart, savvy folks who like having a great time.

Honestly, I think it's impossible to guess what will attract certain players to certain races or careers. I, personally, have hated elves in every other game I've ever played, but I'll be rolling a Dark Elf on launch day because I just love the crazy Lord Byron-in-and-evil-opium-den vibe. And they look really cool. And... well, you'll have to wait a bit longer to see what we're doing with their careers, but I think people will be very excited.

  • Games Workshop Interview - Part 2

Warhammer Alliance has posted part II of thier interview with Erik Mogensen of Games Workshop.

If it's Warhammer and it's on anything other than paper or a tabletop, odds are Erik Mogensen of Games Workshop is involved with it. Erik is the Licensing Manager for Games Workshop, a title that really does little justice for just how involved he is. Early last year Erik gave us a great interview in which he laid out just how involved Games Workshop was in the development of Warhammer Online. This time Erik spends a little more time and updates with what is new in his neck of the woods. Thanks for the update Erik..

  • Erik Mogensen Games Workshop Interview

MMORPG.com has posted this interview today. Keep reading to get a glimpse into this upcoming game.

MMORPG.com: 2006 was a big year for Games Workshop with the launch of Mark of Chaos, the Dawn of War expansions, and of course the development of Warhammer Online. Can you give us some insight into what is on the plate for 2007?

Erik Mogensen: First of all, I’d like to wish you and all the MMORPG.com fans out there a very happy New Year. 2007 is going to be very exciting for all of us!

Obviously, the big news for MMO fans is that there is now less than a year to wait until Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning’s release date. We all know how fast a year can go by! I’m afraid I’m going to have to resort to the old ‘nothing’s been announced yet’ regarding other projects. Sorry. Our other licensees THQ and Namco Bandai Games have plans in the works, but I’m going to leave it to them to reveal what’s cooking when they think the time is right. I’ll tell you this much: I’m very busy these days!

  • “You can eventually, if you're good enough, fight and capture the enemy's king and take him back to your own capital city.”

GameZone has updated their site with Part II of their Warhammer Online interview.

“The second type is what we call battlefields. Battlefields are objectives within the skirmish areas that are intended to provide a focal point for combat. For example, I might enter a skirmish area, and in the distance I might see a large tower. I know that by going to that tower from my realm, I can gain bonuses for my entire realm. So I go to that tower, capture it for myself and gain those bonuses. The enemy wants the same thing. So the enemy’s going to come and fight with me over this.

  • Attack, Destroy, and Rule the World of “Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning”

GameZone has posted a Q & A with Senior Producer Jeff Hickman and Creative Director Paul Barnett. find out what they were able to learn about the combat system of the game.

“RvR really does set the game apart in that it is truly above and beyond what we would normally call PvP (Player vs. Player). You have a realm of friends behind you. They’re always your realm of friends, they’re always there to help you. We invested in the game full of realm pride, where you really are encouraged to defend your realm, to defend your land, to defend your capital city from the incursions that are always coming your way. Realm vs. Realm is a very unique feature that we’ve implemented in a very deep way, again from the beginning through every area of the game.”

  • What Makes WAR Unique

GamersInfo has updated their site with this interesting presentation/interview with EA Mythic.

The call took the format of a presentation – “what makes WAR unique?” – followed by a Q&A session of questions that had been e-mailed in. Jeff Hickman, senior producer of WAR, handled most of the questions, with help from Paul Barnett, the creative director for WAR and Games Workshop liaison to EA/Mythic. Jeff handled a lot of the “fact” side, as he put it, while Paul – as excited and outspoken as ever – answered a lot of the “flavor” side.

  • The Warhammer Online Team Responds

Slashdot has the answers to the questions they asked the community to submit recently. These questions were for the team creating Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

Last month we asked you for questions for the makers of Warhammer Online. The tone of the response made it obvious that many readers were concerned about where the company was taking the Warhammer world. Their responses should, at least somewhat, put those of you frustrated by what you've seen so far at ease. The makers of the upcoming MMOG from Mythic have responded with detail and good humour to the insightful queries you put to them. They were also considerate enough to label their responses, so you know exactly who has answered each question. So, please, read on for the responses from Mythic's Warhammer Online team.
