  • The rumours are being shot down.. but then again.. the rumours that Dell was buying Alienware were shot down as well. MMORGPDOT is reporting the story. It's running rampant all over the net.

Given Galaxies' bumpy ride, and the fact that many game contracts expire after three years, it is not inconceivable that LucasArts, holder of all Star Wars rights, might want to shop around the license. According to informed sources in the industry, that's exactly what the company is doing. Two shops have been mentioned as talking with LucasArts--Cryptic Studios, home to MMORPG City of Heroes, and Canada-based BioWare, maker of the action RPG Jade Empire.

Of the two, BioWare appears the more likely candidate. Besides the fact it developed the critically acclaimed and wildly popular Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the developer just founded a new studio in Austin, Texas--home of SOE's Austin branch--which employs several ex-SOE staffers. The shop's sole project is an unidentified MMORPG set in a science fiction universe, just as Star Wars: Galaxies is.

Can SOE keep hold of this property with the problems that they've had?

  • Can you believe it's been 2 years? My how time flies when you're having fun.

What better way to honor and celebrate than to have a sweepstakes of heroic proportions? That’s right – to celebrate City of Heroes®’ birth month, we’re giving away a prize a day for the entire month of April, and it couldn’t be much easier to win! All you have to do is log into City of Heroes® or City of Villains™ (doesn’t matter which) once each day – it doesn’t matter for how long – and you’ll be eligible to win the prize for that day. Out of all the people who log into the game once everyday from April 1st to April 30th between the hours of 12:00am to 11:59pm EST (you can log in more than once, but it won’t increase your chances of winning), one winner will be randomly chosen! We told you it was easy!

  • GameSpy reports on Richard Garriott’s GDC lecture, where he spoke candidly about the trials and tribulations of Tabula Rasa’s development history.

In any case, Tabula Rasa never even had a chance to take a serious crack, due to a fundamental disconnect in the team's cohesion. According to Garriott, it was a case of too many chefs in the kitchen. There was hierarchy in place at the studio, but even those occupying the lowest rungs were pretty distinguished unto themselves, which hurt the team's ability to delegate and execute on tasks on a very fundamental level.

I guess that the only thing I can say is.. read this article. Having heard Garriott speak, this article embodies his lecture. Read it here.

  • IGN has the new Ground Zero Dev Diary for your perusal.

In the development of Auto Assault we just didn't want PvP to be a place where players go and fight outside of the normal game world. For those that want to do that and take place in a ladder system, we do have that kind of PvP gameplay with the Arenas, but we wanted something that put the players into the much larger conflict between the three races. That's where Ground Zero comes in.

  • You know you watch too many home renovation shows when...

Another month come and gone and it can only mean one thing, another interview! For all of you regular WoW @ TenTonHammer readers out there, we have a surprise for you! No longer will you see the bickering between Hardcore Raiders and Casuals, but instead, WOW gamers who love the environment that Blizzard has given them, and want to improve it.

These are the gamers who love to watch home renovations shows on Sunday night television, then apply it to WOW. Some of the things to expect are Guild Housing, New Cities, Tattoo and Hair Parlor, and more! Take a look at several people's great ideas on how to improve the World of Warcraft!

Here we have a very popular idea brought up and discussed by Quicktoe, a level 25 Gnome Warrior on the server Dark Iron. The ideas behind giving Gnomes and Trolls there own cities!

I realize these two races were the last implemented into the game during its development cycle, but I was thinking it would make for an extremely cool patch or expansion implementation, to create some sort of huge challenge for both the horde and alliance to overcome in order to have all their races to have their own city.

I realize there would be immense design challenges to accompany this change, but it could be a world effort on the scale of 1.9 and its new instance.

  • A irresistable interview.

Some of the fellas of the Irresistable Blokes were kind enough to spend some time talking with me about the GWWC, Factions, and the metagame. For most of them, it was perilously close to dawn, but they provided a lively conversation nonetheless.

Samyel: So, did you guys do a lot of drinking in Taipei?

Uhlv: I met my good buddies Smirnoff Ice and 60% vodka over there.

Samyel: So you may have thrown up in someone's bathtub and not recalled it? 60% is pretty stiff liquor.

Uhlv: After we lost to Evil we had no reason not to. I didn't throw up, that's for sure. It was only motion sickness. I was perrfectly soberr.

Read all about it at Guild Wars - TenTonHammer.
