  • Orcs and Goblins and Wizards, oh my!
Turbine has posted a look at the Goblins and Orcs of Lords of the Rings Online. I had a dream last night, in black and white no less, that went something like this:

"Where Tolkien has used both the names 'Goblin' and 'Orc' for the race, we've used the terms in the interest of gameplay to represent different types of Orc-kind. 'Orcs' are larger, brawnier creatures, whereas 'Goblins' are smaller, and the sort that might ambush you in dark caverns underground."

  • Fast Cars and Big Guns.
A new Auto Assault Recon covering Tempernet (survivors of the apocalypse) is up on the Official Auto Assault site. The ground shook and thunder rolled before we noticed something like this written on some ruins:

"In the early days of the Contamination, Human scientists developed a plan to supplement military and police forces with AI-controlled robots, deliberately designed to quell social unrest and keep riots in check. TemperNet facilities were self-sufficient, able to maintain their local units and gather resources when needed. Left behind during Righteous Fire, the TemperNet AI grew and became self-aware, rationalizing the one true way to eliminate social unrest was to eliminate organic life completely. "

  • When In Doubt, Hazard Out.
GameSpot has posted an Auto Assault Preview focused on Hazard Mode. While taking the road less travelled we figured, why not turn into a giant ground smashing mech when some weenie said:

"While biomeks can turn their cars into giant robots (which tend to wreak havoc in the game's almost completely destructible environments), the humans have a very different hazard mode. The humans of Auto Assault have apparently spent many years underground in fear of nuclear fallout, and they've spent the time researching, among other things, a high-tech energy-shield technology that comes to the fore in hazard mode. The humans' hazard mode creates an inversion shield that makes the vehicle impervious to damage and also zaps nearby enemies with electromagnetic pulses, causing them to slow down. In hazard mode, humans can also call down satellite strikes to their location and redirect the blast to nearby targets, which also causes devastating results."

  • Terrific Talk with Tim Temmerman.
MMORPG.com has posted an interview with Tim Temmerman, a developer on the Star Wars Galaxies team. A Jedi, a Wookie and a Ewok walked into a bar and none of them said this:

"Tim Temmerman has been in QA at LucasArts for several years, and today is the subject of our first Developer Profile here on MMORPG.com. Periodically, we pin down a member of an MMORPG company and conduct a brief Q&A. The hope and goal is to provide the readers with an idea of what it is like to work in the industry, in a wide range of positions."

    radio dial, and
get behind the wheel of "The fastest MMORPG" to take the game for an
    exclusive unrestricted test drive."

  • Please take your hands off of me Mr. Frodo.
Gamers.com has posted a preview of Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. We were always confused about who was Sauron and who was Sarumon and so was the guy playing the slots machines who suddenly yelled:

"Turbine has developed a very intuitive display for character and party status. There is no text onscreen in normal play. Instead, players' two health stats are described in a two-tone bar along the bottom of the screen. The first (and largest) portion of the bar displays your character's Endurance, which regenerates automatically. The left-most tip is another shade, however; it shows the character's Health, which must be healed magically or through resting in a camp or town."

  • [Insert Caribbean accent] A.......O...A a a a O
RPG Vault has posted an interview Funcom's game director, Morten Byon in which they discuss Anarchy Online: Lost Eden. A slot machine started ringing and a lady in flowery clothes jumped up and yelled:

"In case any readers are not familiar with it, how would you outline the conflict that provides the foundation for the base game, Anarchy Online?"

RPGVault has their version of the Auto Assault Roadhouse #3 session posted. They unloaded a round into the nearest building and then probably wrote something like this:

"Our latest long-distance get-together focuses on the item system in NetDevil's project plus the thinking behind it."

  • Crafting and Gadgets and Cannons, oh my!
GameSpy has posted another Auto Assault Preview. The focus this time is on crafting. A Human told a Biomek who told a Mutant that they might have written this:

"There's a whole lot of really valuable junk out there, and the Auto Assault crafting system is how you're gonna get your hands on it!"
