  • DDO Op/Ed at GamerGod

    Let's hope you never run into the dreaded GamerGod during a dungeon crawl.
    GamerGod makes some good points about why Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach satisfies its DnD heritage and makes for a good MMORPG.

    I’ve played D&D for as long as I can remember, and I always wanted someone to make a good D&D game where I played one character in a party and went out adventuring. I always dreamt that one day there would be a totally interactive D&D world where my character could live and meet people, slay mighty dragons, and have people recognize who I was. I've been thinking a lot about what I know of this game, and the thing that I like most is how this MMO has set itself apart from the rest. Most of the elements in DDO are headed in different directions to other MMO's; it forces you to form parties, real time combat, no mounts, and no houses. It's a risky strategy, considering many people play MMO's to buy houses, ride horses, and farm gold and become an almighty ruler of the game - but I think it's a brilliant idea and a brilliant-looking game. For many people, this game will not live up to their hopes or expectations, and although I haven’t played the game yet I'm eagerly awaiting the release. What do I think? Is DDO worth all the hype? My answer is that my dream may no be longer a dream.

    Gamespot has a Hands-On Preview of Auto Assault today. Find out what they have to say about Character Creation, Opening Levels and Graphics.

    The entire character-creation system has been revamped since we last saw it, and now it looks as though it's close to final. The system gives you plenty of control to tweak your character's appearance, and you can adjust your body style, the scale or size of your character, his or her skin color, as well as their primary and secondary color. Then there are various hair styles, hair colors, accessories (such as helmets and mouth pieces), and more that you can select. After that, though, you can tweak your vehicle's colors and paint scheme, as well as choose from an assortment of wheel rims.

When he first started playing WoW, Mercury felt left behind because his friends were already at level 60 and he had little time to catch up. "I also wanted to get to 60 to come along on the instance runs, but I had no time to grind it out between work and social life." Many areas of the game are only available to higher level characters, so Mercury wrote WoWglider to accelerate his game. "

  • World of Warcraft 1.8.4 Patch Notes

    Holiday cheer gets patched into World of Warcraft.
    Blizzard has their World of Warcraft servers down today to patch in some holiday hootinanny. Oh, and the big-time losers in the battlegrounds (or cheaters) no longer get any rewards.

    Battlegrounds

    • Battles must now last at least ten minutes after the start of the battle in order for the losing team to receive a Mark of Honor.

    World

    • New quests for the Feast of Winter Veil have been added! See your Smokywood Pastures customer service representative in Ironforge and Orgrimmar for more details!
    • The level of many of last year's Feast of Winter Veil quests have been adjusted so that reputation rewards are available in their full amount for players of all levels able to do them.
    • Fixed a bug with both versions of the quest "A Smokywood Pastures' Thank You!" that was sending mail out immediately rather than on the intended delay.
    • In a startling discovery, Mistletoe sold on last year's vendors is now named "Fake Mistletoe". A Smokywood Pastures spokesman was quoted as saying, "Sorry, no refunds."
    • Some of the Southsea Dock Workers that were working under the boat should now be much more accessible to players.
    • Andre Firebeard no longer has a chance of dropping a Wastewander Water Pouch.
    • All OOX Distress Beacons are now multi-drop; everyone in a group should be able to receive one if it drops.
    • Fixed a bug with Oglethorpe Obnoticus' gossip where he was being much more familiar with strangers than he should have been.

    made some tasty toys for her cloth-wearing weaklings to buy a little loyalty.
    Sounds like it will be a high-tech gadget and I’m going to catch a shipment

    piece of junk, I want to build it into my armor.
    Lord Recluse gave the go ahead but only if I share the spoils with those
    destined scum that have overrun my territory like rats. Ah well, we can keep
    most of the haul for ourselves as long as we give enough away to keep the
    Arachnos wannabes quiet.

  • Two More City of Villains Reviews

    CoV Was Definitely the Game to Review This Week!
    Gameplay Monthly and Hooked on Games each posted reviews of Cryptic Studios's City of Villains, bringing the 7-day total up to six, by my count.
    From Gameplay Monthly:

    So, should you buy it? I personally did not enjoy the game. There is nothing to do except for run missions or PvP. The missions get extremely tedious after 30 levels, even if you increase their difficulty. The experience just did not scale right. You gain a small boost when you level up (say you get 3000 instead of 2800 for finishing a mission when you level up), but the amount you need to level up will dramatically increase (say you used to need 30500, now you'll need 36000). I just can't stand doing missions after missions. They are the only way to gain experience, there is no other way. Grouping with other people would take just as long.

    And from Hooked Gamers:

    City of Villains is solid as a stand alone title or as a City of Heroes expansion. Despite its weak points or flaws, the title has restored life to City of Heroes and has already caused scores of players, new and old, to repopulate the game servers, reuniting old alliances and challenging new rivals. If you are a veteran MMO player looking for something enjoyable but laid back to play or new to MMOs and looking to get into it for the first time, City of Villains will deliver countless hours of entertainment and player interaction. There is no doubt at all that City of Villains will follow the City of Heroes tradition of success and remain as a big player in the MMO genre.
