  • Exploring Middle-earth: Midgewater Pass

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated this morning with another in the Exploring Middle-earth series. Keep reading to learn about Midgewater Pass...

While the easiest passage from Bree-land into the Lone-lands and Trollshaws is to follow the Great East Road below the Midgewater Marshes, it is not the only way through the hills. There are some paths known to few save the Rangers of the North, and one of these passes through the Marshes themselves.

  • Crafting Beta Journal

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has their weekly beta player journal posted today. This week's journal looks at crafting...

At game's beginning I said to myself, "I'm going to just run quests and kill some baddies...level up as fast I can; forget about crafting".

Well, as luck would have it, an early quest led me to a crafting center. While at the crafting center, I couldn't help but be amazed by the number of people in the area doing crafting at the time and how neat it looked to see so many people pounding away at things with hammers, sewing things and cooking. So, having been sucked into the crafting center at that moment, I decided to talk to the master of apprentices to check out the different professions available. The Explorer profession caught my attention.

  • Exploring Middle-earth: Esteldín

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated with another in the Exploring Middle-earth series.

Few know the true nature of the Rangers of the North, those seemingly grim and cheerless Men who lead a secretive life in the wilderness of Eriador. Fewer still know of Esteldín, the hidden gathering place of the Rangers, tucked away in the wild, far from the travels of even the most distant wanderers. Esteldín is as secret and mysterious as the Rangers themselves.

  • Creatures of Middle-earth: Lynx, Wolf, and Barghest

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has been updated with the next in the series of Creatures of Middle-earth. This article covers the lynx, wolf and barghest.

In the crags of Nan Amlug, lynx dwell in great numbers. While these mountain cats are mere beasts, with no care for the wars of Men and Orcs, they can still be extremely dangerous. They are able to move about nearly unseen, silently creeping towards their prey, springing upon the unwary with vicious precision. The miners of Othrikar, the dwarf-mines of Nan Amlug, must keep a constant vigil as they journey to and from their tunnels.

  • Escape from Vastin's Castle

The official site for Lord of the Rings Online has posted a new developer diary today. This on is by Cardell "Annuvin" Kerr.

Now for a trek down memory lane.

When I first rolled over to LOTRO from DDO, I was pretty focused on making sure the games were VERY different. We wanted the LOTRO play cycle to be different (ie: I wanted you to be able to play LOTRO for hours, while DDO's play cycle was typically higher impact, and thus shorter), and I wanted to focus on the protagonist, not the system. If anything, I wanted the system to be informed by the protagonist, since LOTRO is based off of a story, while DDO is based off of a system.
