  • Middle Earth has so many fascinating places to visit. The world has a very rich environment. With that said, Turbine has released a new point of interest, Trestlebridge

Adventurers traveling north from the Bree-land along the mostly-abandoned Greenway will encounter a truly formidable barrier to further northerly travel: the dark cleft of Cirith Núr. Knifing between the North Downs and the southern regions of the shadowed and mysterious lands of Angmar, this dark cleft once held waters flowing out of Emyn Uial in the West. Over the ages, this mighty river has since receded, leaving only the sharp cliff edges and the uncertain depths below.

As a side note, the concept art that they have to go with the description is absolutely gorgeous!

  • I'm still laughing. I have tears I do. Developer Diary: Allan "Orion" Maki - Friends Don't Let Friends Tank Balrogs The name should speak volumes of the humor in this piece. However, that's not what started me laughing. It's the picture of Will with his cow bell smack at the top. You gotta love a man who appreciates the need for more cow bell.

So you want to know something about The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™. Excellent! If only I could deliver all of the juicy information which you seek! How wondrous would the outpouring of gratitude be, and how greater still the rancor that followed, as shortcomings and disagreements were debated until the coming of the Last Battle!

(Translation: before I was a developer, I was an MMO fan first, then an Online Community Rep. Be nice to Patience!)

If I could do that I would, but I cannot. NobOrBob and his Balrog, Snuggles, keep our darkest secrets, er, secret. What I can do, however, is give you a glimpse of LOTRO from a great height, as if borne by a Great Eagle.

  • There's a new class on the official site. Lore-master hits the stage in a blaze of glory!

    Lore-master
    Races: Man, Elf

'This only would he say, that Imladris was of old the name among the Elves of a far northern dale, where Elrond the Halfelven dwelt, greatest of lore-masters.'

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, "The Council of Elrond"

A keeper of ancient lore and otherwise lost knowledge, the Lore-master uses his knowledge of the lesser and greater powers of the world around him to stave off the advances of the shadow for a time, and to treat the wounds and suffering of his companions. In dire need he can use this knowledge to hurt his foes; but this task being extremely difficult, a wise Lore-master would rarely attempt it.

The Lore-master will be the class of choice for the player that enjoys using the power of ancient lore to aid their allies and hinder their foes. Steeped in the histories of Middle-earth Lore-masters are able to aid their fellows in recovering from maladies caused by the forces of the Dark Lord. They can also use their knowledge to daze, harm, or hinder their enemies, as well as give of themselves to strengthen another. Some Lore-masters are even said to be able to communicate with animals and request their aid. A Lore-master's combat style is anchored in the power of knowledge and using it intelligently to defeat evil.

    Eeeevilllll!

  • Will unsupervised ankle-biters make it into your MMOG?

Will an Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rating of "Mature" help keep kids out of Lord of the Rings Online and other MMOGs? And, perhaps more to the point, should it?

I’ve found that gamers come in all varieties, and age has nothing to do with maturity. I’d much rather deal with 10 pre-teen kids who accidentally KS my giant bats in the newbie zone than one 23-year-old griefer who repeatedly trains my group for kicks. I’ve grouped with very young gamers who play with skill and wisdom. Then again, I’ve grouped with 20-something gamers whose antics could’ve easily landed them a spot on MTV’s Jackass.

  • Turbine has posted a Hunter Class update on the Official Lord of the Rings Online site.

Woodsman, pathfinder, and master of the bow, the keen-eyed Hunter can use her arrows to devastating effect from a distance. Archery is not the only thing the Hunter excels at, for she can lead her companions through the forest at greater speed than they could on their own, and can set up traps to ambush enemies. The archer is no close-quarters fighter, however, and would generally rather let her bow do the work than resort to her sword.

The Hunter will be the class of choice for players who enjoy striking a target at range. Clever by nature, the Hunter is known to lure her targets into traps to hinder them, giving her time to use her bow to deadly effect. A Hunter's knowledge of nature also provides skills that help her and her fellows survive in the wild. A Hunter's combat style depends on her ability to injure others while staying out of harm's way.

Take of your bows and get ready!
