Ten Ton Hammer Features, Guides, and more

  • Final Fantasy or The Bible? You decide.
Lycos has posted the top 50 search terms used over the last 10 years and Final Fantasy has come in at #17 beating out terms like Harry Potter, The Simpsons, Star Wars, Star Trek and Ten Ton Hammer. Neddie Seagoon of WorldChessNetwork.com claims to have searched for Ten Ton Hammer millions of times, but to no avail. He had this to say about that:

" As Lycos continues the celebration of its 10 - year anniversary, this week we announced the top 50 search terms from Sept. 1995 through the week ending Sept. 17, 2005. Lycos was first to market with a weekly countdown of most popular internet search topics, when it introduced The Lycos 50 on Sept. 15, 1999. "

  • Redstorm hits Nice. French batten down the hatches.
GamesIndustryBiz is reporting that former RedStorm CEO, Doug Littlejohns has joined Nice Tech. Sarah Lane of Tech TV, who coincidentally seems to be quite nice had nothing to say about the career change. We're confident that given time, she would have said this:

"Cambridge-based MMO developer Nice Tech has strengthened its organisation with the appointment of industry veteran and former Red Storm CEO Doug Littlejohns.
The company was founded in 2005 to design and develop Massively Multiplayer Online games, which have seen an incredible surge in popularity recently, thanks to titles such as Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft."

  • A pirated video?
Flying Labs just released a preview video heretofore only available to the moneyed investor-folk, though it's unclear whether Johnny Depp will appear in the final cut.

" A couple months ago we made a short video of Pirates of the Burning Sea. We did it for private showings to some business partners, not for public release, but now our producer is leaving town and we decided: what the heck! You can check out this sneak peek video online for a look at the game as it was a little while before we unveiled it at the Penny Arcade Expo. Enjoy! "

  • A golf MMO? Those krazy Koreans!
Broken English and hole-in-one hackers! Korean developer OnNet's "Shot Online" puts players inside a world populated by golfes and lets them golf together. A lot.. How exactly does this work out? I could tell you, but I'd rather quote something funny.

"A sample description [for one of the playable characters], this for Wotan: “Reticent and sincere. With a great sweat, he ranks one of the tops even though he lost his one eye in an accident. His nick name, Odin becomes him.” If you’re anything like me, first off, your wondering what is up with the names? Then you get hit with the broken-English translations, (which is a recurring theme). I had to laugh at this description numerous times. If he has a “great sweat”, it does not sound like much fun playing 18 holes with him. Kind of like that underarm deodorant commercial where the golfer sinks a putt, raises his arms in victory, and the entire crowd, wildlife included, fall over from the apparent stench. Also, if he “lost his one eye in an accident”, would not that make him partly blind? I would be pretty impressed if he still ranked as “one of the tops” then! "

The article does a good job of detailing how a golf MMO works, or doesn't work. You decide! The Shot Online review at MMORPG.com.

I'm not sure I have a game that I'm looking forward to this holiday season. The XBox 360 comes out, so maybe, just maybe, I'll have to pick one up and go from there.
    Thursday Vin Diesel Fact:
Vin Diesel created water by grabbing two hydrogen molecules, an oxygen molecule and squeezing them really hard in his hand.
    What's new on the network.

What was recently recent, or what we still want you to see...you decide.

Now on to the real world. You can't make this stuff up.

As always, thanks for visiting TenTonHammer.com,

  • Camaros with Cannons!
The Official Auto Assault site has updated the recon section with a second look at loot. Brad Pitt denied that his latest movie was a bomb, citing the following:

    "Traders have often
remarked about the sheer variety of items and useful pieces
of equipment found in the Central Wastelands, whether from
the ruins of an ancient pre-apocalyptic city, deep in the
stomach of a particularly nasty Crawler, or strewn from
the wreckage of a Pike Duster. In fact, the wide assortment
of resources, weapons, components, and other materials available
for exploitation in the Central Wastelands theoretically
approaches infinity. A Loot research study funded by Sledge's
Stop ‘n Shop in Scrap Valley estimates that there are billions of unique objects in the Central Wastelands alone. Although most items are quite common – it is not unknown to come across an extremely rare, valuable find. "

  • Because only four journals isn't enough.
RPGVault has posted The Saga of Ryzom Journal #5, featuring the Zorai race. Lance Armstrong agreed to come out of retirement, a ballsy move on his part, to join the Zorai race. At the press conference he stated:

" A mysterious place with a history full of secrets, the exotic, organic world of Atys is made up of five distinct bio-diverse ecosystems ranging from parched desert to temperate forest, unspoiled lake lands, lush jungle and the eerie caverns of the Prime Roots. It is populated by four races that are collectively known as homins. Each of these has a different genetically predisposed role, and therefore its own society reflecting its particular values. The Fyros are warriors who maintain a constant vigil in order to protect the planet against its greatest threat, fire. Theirs is a relatively austere culture built upon a strict code of honor. The Matis are decadent aristocrats and skilled biologists dedicated to maintaining the flora surrounding them. The Zorais are mystics, with powers shrouded in secrecy, and the Trykers are playful spirits who seek only freedom. "

  • A chronicle of the The Chronicle.
MMORPG.com has posted a developer written preview of The Chronicle. The preview focuses on the battle system and specifically on the opportunity subsystem of combat. Vin Diesel, the master of combat and of opportunity flexed the muscles in his eyelids and roared:

" I attack you and hit for 22 damage. You attack me and hit for 17 damage. I attack you and miss. You attack me and critically hit for 34 damage. I attack you…
Does the above exchange sound familiar? It probably does, because that’s the way combat works in just about every MMORPG on the market today. In reality, combat is a complex dance of subtle maneuvers, split-second perceptions, and exploiting opportunities, which is why most RPG battles seem so sterile and monotonous by contrast. It’s tough to get excited about a match of dueling calculators, but one of the things The Chronicle is attempting to do is add a new dimension to RPG style combat, putting more emphasis on strategy and timing than just clicking auto attack to find out who has the best damage per second and hit points."

  • Atriarch programmers flogged. Details at 11:00.
The official Atriarch website has been updated letting fans know that development is taking longer than expected. Gil Grissom of CSI looked over the Atriarch development area and had this to say about the delay:

" a Recent Study conducted by NASA Scientists confirms the theory that aliens suck at estimating Earth units of time...

First things first... we totally misjudged how long it would take to finish the stuff we've been working on. A significant increase in expletives from the programmers should have clued me in a little sooner. (Next time I take whatever the programmers estimate and multiply by a thousand.) "

  • 360 to gone in 0 seconds.
GameSpot is reporting that the initial allotment of XBox 360s at both EB Games and their merger partner GameStop has been sold out. If you want a 360 you had best look elsewhere. Ricky of Trailer Park Boys swore repeatedly when he heard the news. Then he swore some more and uttered the following:

"Retailer is first online store to go through its allotment of the next-gen console; other online retailers still have "launch" quantities."
