We received over 30 cm of snow last night. For you non-metric types that equals "a hella lot". This of course begs the question, why are there no snow storms in MMOGs, and by storms I means snow accumulating on the ground until you can't see the guy in front of you?
MMOG Quote of the Day: Inc. - "Incoming . The last words a Tank usually utters and rarely what is actually incoming.
Also, term that when used by mages actually means, "I'm so stupid I deserve to die right here, right now." "

  • Blizzard Wants To Give You Cash For Machinima.
Okay, first off, what is "Machinima?" I asked too and this is what
    Ethec found for me:
    So, what is Machinima?

    Machinima (muh-sheen-eh-mah) is filmmaking within a real-time, 3D virtual
environment, often using 3D video-game technologies.
In an expanded definition, it is the convergence of filmmaking, animation
and game development. Machinima is real-world filmmaking techniques applied
within an interactive virtual space where characters and events can be either
controlled by humans, scripts or artificial intelligence.

By combining the techniques of filmmaking, animation production and the technology
of real-time 3D game engines, Machinima makes for a very cost- and time-efficient
way to produce films, with a large amount of creative control.

Yeah, that helped a little bit. Anyway, Shacknews
has some info about a contest being held by Blizzard and a few other companies
    affiliated with WoW:

Among those who make animated short films using overdubbed footage from games
(machinima), Blizzard's World of Warcraft already gets a lot of play. Now,
there's an official contest sponsored by Blizzard, Xfire, and a number of
other companies for WoW-based machinima. It doesn't seem to be in honor of
anything in particular; the three open categories are Dance, Comedy, and Drama.

Five prizes will be awarded for each category. An additional ten prizes will
be awarded for special categories including Best Music, Best Dialog, Best
Action Scene, Best Pun or Line, and Best Editing and Special Effects. A special
prize will also be awarded to a selected movie among all valid contest entrants.
Entries must be submitted by January, 21st 2006.

The combined prizes reach a total value of over $10,000, and are mainly made
up of PC components and accessories from the sponsor companies. There's also
an Xbox 360 in there for good measure. So, if you're into that kind of thing,
    get to it.

  • Happy Hour With NCsoft!
And it wouldn't be happy hour without Auto Assault! Wait, why wasn't I invited?
    Oh, well... Sounds like GamerGod
    had a grand time!

We had the distinct pleasure of attending the 2nd edition of the Roadhouse
Happy Hour, hosted by NCsoft’s Valerie "Pann" Massey, the
Auto Assault Community Coordinator. In attendance were several members of
the press and Content Leads from the NetDevil offices, Adam “Snipehunter”
Maxwell (Mutant), Chris “Ombwah” Holtorf (Human) and Hal “maRaider”
    Hanlin (Biomek).
As we joined them on Margarita Monday, they appeared in a very decent mood
and quite full of humor. The topics of the day were centered on two themes:
How did the apocalypse begin and what would bring a player to side with a
particular faction?. Little time was wasted as they launched into a tumultuous
rendition of history from each perspective. They all agreed on the beginning
and little else following. They told us that humanity had been living contentedly
on earth prior to the meteor shower, which was not a meteor shower at all,
but in fact pieces of alien space craft coming apart around the earth.

Major props to Pann! She's my home girl!

  • When The Sky's The Limit
    MMORPG.com has an
interesting interview for you today. They sat with the CEO of Colossal
    James "dormantdemon" Moffet:

Today we have a unique interview with James Moffet, the CEO and Executive
Producer of Colossal Studios. Colossal produces content, including 3D, for many
sources, but primarily - to date - MMORPGs. The company is made up largely of
former employees of Mutable Realms, which developed the cancelled MMORPG Wish.

MMORPG.com: Let us begin with an introduction to who you are, your company
    and what you do.

James Moffet: To the gaming world, I was the producer of the “Wish”
MMORPG; one of many highly publicized, yet now defunct MMORPG efforts that
have risen and summarily died over the last several years.
Colossal Studios is a company that I formed out of the ashes of “Wish”
to provide Over-the-Top 3D content, guidance to other MMO developers based
on our experience, a vehicle for selling the “Wish” assets, and
    to develop game related software.
The team is primarily comprised of former members from the “Wish”
production staff with exceptional talents for developing bizarre concepts,
concept art, composition, and 3D modeling. Collectively, we’ve been
building high quality 3D related content for many years.

There are also some pretty nice pictures to demon-strate what exactly they
can do. Get it? "Demon-strate"... yeah...

  • Who Will You Play As?
found all nine available character classes on The Chronicle of Spellborn's Official

At long last we are pleased to present to you the full lineup of classes
for The Chronicles of Spellborn. The classes have been divided into three
groups: Warriors, Spellcasters, and Rogues. Within the game, each character
must choose a group during creation, and this determines which of the following
three classes they may select from once they have gained some experience in
    the world.

Personally, I think the Freedancer sounds the best:

These rogues are masters of changing their shape. The Facedancer makes for
an efficient and deadly assassin, and possesses a variety of melee as well
as ranged combat skills. They are also considered the most adept practitioners
    of the art of stealth.

    Oh yeah! Art of Stealth!

-13 degree Celcius temperatures didn't stop our family from using what little daylight there is between school-end and nightfall to build a hockey rink in our yard. On the handy-man scale I rank pretty low, but with the help of the kids we got it up and ready to go. If only they could create a MMOG that somehow included hockey I think Canadians would jump in, skates first.
